Have seen him many times outside of the rink and can say it's unlikely he's actually 5'8. I had him pegged right around what you said, 5'6ish.

Also for anyone who is interested he now has 80pts in 33 games which leads the entire CHL by 15 points (although more games played).

Moncton just picked up another euro to give Moncton more depth and might finally take away a bit of his ice time so he's not double and triple shifted every game.

You should have seen him standing next to John Scott at training camp..

I don't think I have seen these type of stats since Gretzky was outscoring the NHL.

Garland's stats this year.

29 points clear of the 2nd highest scorer in the Q.

107 points in 48 games. 2.23 PPG

Headed for his 2nd scoring title in 2 years.

Unfortunately this is no guarantee of making the NHL as Yanni Gourde is finding out. But on the otherhand he can look at Tyler Johnson as inspiration.

Back to back scoring titles, seems to have great offensive instincts. Will be interesting to watch if he can transfer his skills to the AHL to the NHL.

ummm, Crosby outscored the next best player in the Q by over a PPG in 2004-05. Gamache, Abid and Richards also put up just as crazy numbers as Garland. I'd say Garland's dominance is more reflective of the lack of a truly elite scoring prospect being in the QMJHL. There is no one 17 or older who really compares to Drouin, Ehlers or Mackinnon, the best offensive prospects are probably Meier, Dubois, Gauthier, and Svetchnikov, all good but far from being the elite of the elite offensively.

There may not be elite "NHL" prospects in the Q at the moment but there are plenty of high scoring elite junior scorers such as Perron, Beauregard, Timashov, etc.

Garland is just on a higher level than all other junior players at the moment, even though his NHL chances are low. It's no coincidence that Moncton has been on a 7 game losing streak at the same time as Garland has slowed down. He IS their team.

The things he actually pulls off in game with the puck are ridiculous, and to see a guy who looks to be a foot shorter than all his opponents it almost looks like a kid just toying with a bunch of big clumsy hacks with zero skill at all.

Crosby was a generational talent. Somewhat different here. Garland is going to be back to back scoring champion as a 5th rd pick. I would not say the Q is less dominant scoring wise. His numbers are comparable to Drouin. Who I still say will be a very good NHL'er. Only time will tell for Garland. He's a fascinating prospect from a boom/bust perspective.

Well he has 5 goals and 5 assists in the last 4 games with 16 shots on goal. So, maybe he missed a team meeting?

badmouthed a opposing coach, internal punishment

That is completely false.

The team has a "merit" system in place where the coach grades every player every game and the lowest grade gets sat out the following game. Garland actually went to the coach and said he deserved to sit yesterday. Props to him.

Roger Shannon , GM of the Wildcats, actually confirmed this yesterday as well.

Lazy player with no work ethic doesn't want to help his team win, just wants to sit there making money watching hockey :sarcasm:

How does no one else on his team even show up on the top 20 Q scorers? Is this guy actually doing everything himself?

Looks like back to back CHL and QMJHL scoring titles for Garland. Only the 4th player in Q history to do so. Pretty impressive season considering how much he slowed down after the deadline.

He has 128 pts and the 2nd place scorer on his team has 65 pts and has played 4 more games than him.

How many points could this guy have if he played on a good team?

It's the Q, so offense output is a bit skewed, but regardless, he appears to be a steal.

I think he'd probably have fewer points on another team. I've seen in before in junior - when a player is doing it all by themselves they get huge point totals, but when they've actually got a good supporting cast, the points get spread out a bit more. I'm sure he'd still be at the top of the Q in scoring, because he really is that good, but his point totals would probably look less ridiculous.

Don't know how many times this has to be repeated until people realize that this isn't true and hasn't been for a few years now. The Q is no more of a high scoring league than the OHL is.
