I think he'd probably have fewer points on another team. I've seen in before in junior - when a player is doing it all by themselves they get huge point totals, but when they've actually got a good supporting cast, the points get spread out a bit more. I'm sure he'd still be at the top of the Q in scoring, because he really is that good, but his point totals would probably look less ridiculous.

I saw about 25 of Garlands games this season, and I'd find it hard to believe that he would have less points on another team unless the coach cut back on his ice time. Garland was often double teamed and targeted, leaving a player open, and the amount of times these players would miss glorious opportunities leads me to believe that if he had another Q star his totals would be up by quite a bit. But who knows.

Well, that's part of it. Of course they'd cut back his ice time if they had other high end forwards. There's only so much ice time to go around. So, what do you think his point totals would look like now if Moncton had a few other elite forwards? 200 points? 300? Would Moncton be scoring 10 goals a game?

It's not a knock on Garland at all to suggest he might have slightly lower point totals if there was someone else on the team to help carry the load.

Don't know how many times this has to be repeated until people realize that this isn't true and hasn't been for a few years now. The Q is no more of a high scoring league than the OHL is.

I think most people know this by know, but it's just the whole regional bias thing. Some people just like to say 'lol qmjhl sux' or whatever. Basically it's just an easy way for people to dismiss the accomplishments of someone in the Q without actually having to think.

Though it might be fair to say that the overall depth of defensive talent in the Q is not as high as the OHL or WHL. Though if Garland was playing in the OHL right now, I think it's safe to say his PPG would be right up there with the top guys. Having to occasionally play against slightly better defensemen isn't going to change a whole lot with his talent level.

If Moncton were to have got Timashov or Meier like they were rumoured to get I fully expect him to have had a 140-150pt season. That's what Garland was on pace to do basically the entire season until after the deadline when everyone in Moncton dropped off a cliff and other teams realized that if you target Garland, Moncton can't score.

he doubled up the next highest scorer on his team, that is incredible.

Obviously we'll see how his game translates, but he's a hell of a junior hockey player

OMG that's gold.

Victoriaville's coach said that all series Garland told opposing players that he's rich. What kind of person says something like that to trash talk on the ice?!

Here's a proof in picture:

A little ****. :laugh:Pretty funny, and it fits the agitating style Garland plays with, but he's got to get some new material and rethink the yapping, some kid is going to take it seriously and knock him right out. When you're his size you can't be talking a lot of trash in the pro games.

Theo Fleury did.

jokes on him
comtois will be playing NHL and Garland will see limited AHL
with a sniff at splinters in nhl

Comtois certainly looks like a future NHLer

But I wouldnt sell Garland short just yet. I think he will be an NHLer too.

And I dont get why Garland is saying that he's rich? He signed a contract with ARZ giving him a signing bonus... does that make him rich? How much are signing bonuses these days? Lol

Maybe he comes from a rich family? :dunno: Regardless it's not something that someone with a head on their shoulders would brag about on the ice though...

I love how Victoriaville's coach Bruce Richardson talked about it.

«Il est cocky. Ça fait partie de son style de jeu. Il aime ça! D'ailleurs, il dit à tout le monde qu'il est riche. On sait maintenant qu'il a signé un contrat. Il passe devant notre banc et nous dit : I'm rich, I'm rich. Je suis bien content pour toi mon ami! Moi, je ne le suis pas!»

"He's cocky. It's part of his style of game. He likes it! Besides, he told everyone that he is rich. We now know that he signed a contract. He passes our bench and says: I'm rich, I'm rich. Well, I'm happy for you my friend! Because I'm not!"

When I watched game 2 against Victoriaville, I thought Garland was a bit of a cherry picker.
But the thing is that Moncton's breakout is just weird, putting one player at the redline, and another at the far blueline.

Despite his antics or whatever, he sees and anticipates the game to a far greater degree than any other CHL player I'd reckon. It was only a 1 game, but I was amazed at how he seemed to always be in the right place at the right time, being more than a few steps ahead of everyone else. I also expected him to be one of those players who waits for openings, but he shoots a lot, even from the corners and behind the net he always is able to get the puck to the front which is part in why he gets so many assists he is able to always create chances because he doesn't wait around, he throws the puck at the net if there isn't really an opening.

He's going to need to get a lot stronger and a lot faster to make it at the next levels but he has the skill and he has the mind for the game.

Really hard not to think there's an obvious Quebec bias in the QMJHL when Garland doesn't win MVP with the season he just had.

Garland: 128pts
Next closest teammates: 65, 64, 50

Perron (MVP): 108pts
Next closest teammates: 82, 67, 51 (in 29 games)

You tell me who seems more valuable? Something fishy going on here if you ask me, but that's par for the course in a league that blatantly favors the French teams. Can't have back to back English MVP!

Perron is the better all around player, but Garland had an outrageous season considering his teammates totals.

Seriously, load of bull.

Surprised I don't know, but who votes on the QMJHL MVP award?

2003-2004 - Sidney Crosby
2004-2005 - Sidney Crosby
2005-2006- Alex Radulov

stop with your victim complex. FWIW I think Garland should have won, but some people see french conspiracies in their sleep.

Usually the little guys who exceed in the NHL, have an edge/agitating/cocky type of personality to go along with great skill/speed so that bodes well for him. Amazing season for him.

Garland again a no show in the playoffs when it gets tough.

Last year in the semi final: 2 assists and a -8 in 4 games.

This year in the quarter final: 0 point and a -6 in 3 games.

Yeah and Ehlers should have won it last year. Better player, more valuable to his team than Garland was to Moncton in 2014-2015.
