Well these are the players that Garland is competing against so yes it kind of does disprove your "point".

i am talking about a general perception amongst scouts

even the maritime midget teams/ feeder into the Q are the weakest in canada
you must know that ;)

So you're a scout and know this for a fact? Because now your point has gone from "facts" to opinions.

an opinion that happens to be true
i will leave it at that
and leave it with i see no other reason to not have the top chl player not get an invite
appart from the league he competes in, i dont see proof otherwise

But why would they do that? Conspiracy theories need motives right? Obviously they've take guys from the Q before (Adam Erne, probably others...).

So what's the motivation to leave Garland off? They obviously don't punish guys for going the CHL route like they used to. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they don't think he makes their team better, for whatever reason. Maybe he doesn't fit the style they want to play, maybe they don't like his attitude?

But the bottom line is, they want to win, period. If they though he was the best man for the job, he'd be on the team.

Yeah, and that line of thinking is wrong. No conspiracy required. His attitude is top notch and guys like Dave Tippett were thrilled with him, so I don't buy that angle. Team USA may say they want to win but they make all kinds of strange and totally arbitrary decisions about guys. They're not above petty politics that's for damn sure.

Ok, but what's the motivation then? As I say, they've had statistically less successful players from the Q before. Does Garland have some beef with USA hockey? Has he turned them down before for something?

There's no doubt he has strong worth ethic on the ice, but he's a guy who's a bit of a hot head and isn't well liked by his own team or even the coaching staff (I know this for a fact). He knows he's the best player in the league and acts like it, which has a tendency to rub people the wrong way so maybe this is what team USA wanted to avoid?

My best guess as to why, although I still think it's a big mistake.

first time watching him on youtube and is he really 5'8? Swear he looks shorter than that maybe 5'6.

Have seen him many times outside of the rink and can say it's unlikely he's actually 5'8. I had him pegged right around what you said, 5'6ish.

Also for anyone who is interested he now has 80pts in 33 games which leads the entire CHL by 15 points (although more games played).

Moncton just picked up another euro to give Moncton more depth and might finally take away a bit of his ice time so he's not double and triple shifted every game.

Then what or who is your source?

This.

Got to give this kid a bump, I mean 92pts in 38 games, come on. I may have to drive to Moncton to catch a few games this season.

He is not getting enough attention, no invite to US team...yeah he's small but there are lots of small players in today's game. He's likely to break 140pts this season.

I know his offensive game is as good as ever, but does anyone who watches Moncton see improvement in his game from last season? Skating, defense, positioning, etc.?

I actually would of liked to see him play for US. There has been a lot of talk lately with the level of competition he faces ... would be interesting to of seen him on the big stage or sure.

Just an update, Garland is now at 98 points on the season. He has most assists (70) than the second highest scorer in the Q has points (68). Just making a joke out of the competition. I'm pretty sure he has only been held pointless 2-3 times all year.

I think barring injury he has the CHL player of the year locked up.

Needs 8 points in next 4 games to match Drouins numbers in his draft+1 year.

This is effectively (if we are looking for an even comparison) Garland's draft+2 year since he was went undrafted in his first draft eligible year. Impressive numbers nevertheless!

I'd agree with handicapping his success age wise if he was larger. He's still pretty damn small.

Seems like he's probably done gaining height. I don't understand why him being shorter makes it make sense to compare Garland at 19 to Drouin at 18.
