This isn't that surprising. Yes he is skilled, but so was Rob Schremp. We all saw how ineffective he was at WJC, and then in the NHL.

He's having a great year. He's leading the Q in scoring. Matthews and Milano are playing pro hockey. Dvorak, Tkachuk, Debrincat and MacInnis are the top scorers in a tougher league. Clayton Keller would be at the top of the OHL in scoring as a 98 if he played on Windsor, and is a much more complete player.

Then there are a handful of bigger, tougher players that are having good years in the NCAA, which the Q isn't even close to.

He's not battling for Eansor, Hitchcock or Bittners role.

My only issues with the invite list is Schmaltz over Kyle Connor and Ryan Collins over Josh Jacobs or Jack Dougherty.

Love when a WHL'er gets represented, but I don't understand how Garland isn't the better add over Easnor. Unless of course, they have their top 6 set, and didn't want to remove him from his team.

Good for my country, bad for hockey.

This is the best argument in my opinion and which is what I came here to post.

Eansor plays a similar game but isn't nearly on the same level as Garland. This comparison will also put the size excuse to rest as Eansor is of a similar stature.

I get bashed on the forum for having my doubts on the Q as being sub par to the rest of the CHL and American programs

again proof that the top scorer in the Q by far does not even get a sniff at the USA camp ?

is it more than politics or is the Q viewed differently by some/many ?

So because Schremp wasn't good means Garland wouldn't be either. He's not just the top scorer in the Q, he's the top scorer in the CHL carrying the team almost single handedly. Dvorak, Tkachuk and Debrincat are pretty far behind him in the points race and actually have a great supporting cast. You also seem to be leaving out that Garland led the CHL in scoring last season as well.

Yes all of these players have more potential, but as of now Garland may just be the best player against Junior level competition, which is what the WJC is.

I'll never understand them leaving him off the team, but as a Canadian I'm glad it happened.

Well said sir.

Roslovic, Connor, Tuch, Fischer, Bracco, etc.

No you're right, it must just be the Q

Weren't some of those players at least invited ?

It's clearly a snub.

This year? No, they weren't. That was my point. He was snubbed as were others and it had nothing to do with the fact that he was from the Q. US made some odd camp roster decisions.

Bringing Scott Eansor, a 5'8" guy with meh stats as a 19 year old in the WHL over Garland makes no sense. But they made a few other strange decisions.

if garland was leading the whl or ohl this would not even be a discussion point
the red carpet would be out

the fact remains

Kyle Connor is top 10 in scoring in the NCAA as a freshman. They must view the NCAA as a lower-tier league too. Or maybe, just maybe, they made a decision (or a few) that seem strange that has nothing to do with the league in which they play. No, it's probably not that.

he is leading scorer in all of jr hockey
and not even invited

isnt an attitude issue
hes been consistently productive

ok guess everything is transparent

I feel the same way. ... I too am Canadian but I'd like to see him play at the WJC

He's had some notable attitute issues. USA is also well known to make some very "political" choices when it comes to their Junior team, regardless of what league they play in.

Still waiting for you to back up these comments.

I'll be the first to admit I have not watched many WHL or OHL games...

But how can people say this when a QMJHL team has won the Memorial cup 3 of the last 5 years?
(Saint John 2011, Shawinigan 2012, Halifax 2013, Edmonton 2014, Oshawa 2015)

I have seen Garland play, and all I will say is that he has been the best player on the ice every time I've watched him play.

look at the facts
NHL drafts from OHL 75% more players than the Q
NHL drafts from WHL 60% more players than th Q

and the Q is on par for draft numbers from Jr A and JrB and other jr Leagues

what more do you want
numbers speak for themselves

What exactly are you trying to say with the bolded? That the Q is the equivalent to a Junior A or Junior B league? I sure hope not.

And yes it is pretty common knowledge that the depth of the Q is not as high as the OHL or WHL, but the top end talent is pretty comparable. Now ask yourself if Garland plays against the best players, or do opposing teams end out their 3rd pairing and 4th line against him?

The Q is the worst of the three leagues, but no where close to the effect you think it is and that certainly isn't why Garland didn't get invited. Especially when you consider Garland is effectively doing all of this on his own this year.

2015 Draft:

Players from WHL - 34
Players from OHL - 31
Players from QMJHL - 30

The only lower level league that had equivalent numbers is the USHL due to the U18 USNDP.

But keep making up stats if you'd like.

Right on.

This is exactly what separates QMJHL from the other leagues but like you said, teams don't send their 3rd pairings/4th lines against Garland so his stats are really impressive no matter what you want to think. He's doing better than a lot of former QMJHLers who are in the NHL right now.
