hat's what's so puzzling though, he obviously wasn't brought here to play. Did he forget what his role is? Refuses to do it? Prevented from doing it?
Just an odd theory....but:

Perhaps the "stars" have told Keefe that if Reaves goes after an opposing player, that they fear they will be targeted next, so Keefe has kept a leash on Reaves. It does seem that Keefe listens to (obeys) his core.

Reeves is one of the many examples of guys with a tough physical game being brought to Toronto and said tough and physical came completely goes up in smoke.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but did Keefe even put him on the ice when Marchand was on?

The player doesn't know what his role is then? If a player doesn't know their role, isn't that still on the coach?

Honestly, I don't think it's any more complicated than Reaves is at this point well aware that if he jumps a guy he's going to get hit with an instigator

It’s not just Reaves. Domi and Bertuzzi too. I guarantee you if the roles were reversed last night and they were wearing Bruins jerseys, they would be mucking it up. It’s something about this team.

This is exactly what Reaves should have done. Simmonds, Clifford and Spezza stepped in to defend their teammate.
It's sad just to make the Reaves signing look better, some said Clifford and Simmonds were actually soft.

You can’t expect the short term mercenaries looking to stats pad and bet on themselves to be the glue players and drive the culture.

The same people whining and crying saying he didn't do anything to Marchand, would be the same ones whining and crying if he did and took a 2 min/5 min penalty.
Words can't even begin to describe how terrible a take this is.

At least Simmonds stood up for the guys, Reaves flat out didn't do his job.

Edler I don't even think he had a fight in his career but Simmonds didn't give him a choice.

There’s only a handful of guys in the league that would ever fight Reaves. Simmonds is much smaller.

The amount logical fallacies he committed in one sentence is honestly impressive.
The only somewhat logical explanation that I can think of for what he was trying to say is he must be referring to the B2B Kadri suspensions in the playoffs in his final 2 years here. But it's a completely different scenario.

Kadri was our #2-3 Center at the time and wasn't expendable like Reaves is.

Reaves literally has 1 job on this team.

Yea, the difference between heavy weight and light heavy weight. The other thing though is when shit goes down, I don't want him asking nicely either.

I agree but he’s never been like that and it’s one of the reasons I was sceptical. Honestly it fits Max Domi’s MO more to jump a guy, and they’re both closer in size.

Reaves just reminds me of that bygone era of enforcer that just has no one to dance with in today's NHL. Rats like Marchand, Tkachuk, Bennett, aren't going to drop the gloves.

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I'd be fine with him grabbing Marchand on his next shift after that Liljegren injury and just pounding on him. Take the instigator penalty, take a suspension if that's what you need to do, but make one of their more important guys pay a price.

I thought Reaves knew this before this season.

It isn't about fighting Marchand or a star... People don't get it. He's supposed to "deter" this stuff because he's around. He should have been a wrecking ball of a player his next shift. I don't care if he runs over a bad player. But instead he floated around. So much goal post moving about this kind of player, always an excuse. It's Keefe, it's Matthews, It's Shanahan, it's the stick guy... No, stop blaming everyone else around him.

It's not all on him in terms of elevating their game. Everyone should have been present physically, especially the new guys. The star players showed up to do what they do for the most part at least.

People were gloating after game 2 that he's awesome. Rah rah rah he got the belt, he's so badass. I'm losing my mind how any hockey executive thinks he's a net positive player in the lineup.

We love to shit on Gudas, but he is on the ice when it matters and a team genuinely knows he won't wait for the right guy to pound.

I don't think Reaves could beat Gudas, but I concede it could happen. Gudas and his legal hipcheck is why you play ball when he is on the ice.

Reaves is 36 years old and is absolutely cooked as an NHLer despite not even being that good of a player at any point in his career.
Treliving greatly overreacted in thinking Leafs needed players with an edge with his signing and why he was given 3 years, I don't ever know...
