If that is true I would expect extensions to come soon. Obviously their jobs are hanging by a thread but they won't leave them as lame ducks.

Would you have extended them this summer ? Perhaps they are waiting to see how the team performs which could backfire if they do well and then fold in the playoffs.

What? I could think of far worse situations to be in.

Zero bad long-term contracts. A bunch of solid to good prospects, not all are "small" either, so that's a weird baseless comment. Picks are easily acquired in a rebuild, even the worst GMs ever can do that pretty easily.

Breathe a little and take a step back.
It's a very good situation to walk into....certainly much better than the one he walked into.

I think posters are more afraid that the Leafs will have success and make most of these comments look ridiculous.

Ego and self-preservation are 2 of mankind's ugliest traits, along with hubris.

PP ice time, 2020-2021

Rielly: 160:30
Sandin: 15:51

"replaced"

Also, pretty much everybody here was demanding changes and trying different things when the PP was cold.

You might want to rewatch game #1 vs Habs. Had Sandin not sh1t the bed, he would not have been taken out of the lineup. Fact is Rielly was replaced by a rookie who had barely played for the Leafs during the season, no matter how you want to spin it.

Way too much blind anger this morning.

Absolutely., they would still be terminated if necessary. Lame ducks cause too much distraction.
They'd both be unemployed for about 5 minutes anyways if we're to believe the hype for them here.

It certainly isn’t what he was gifted when he came in, that in and of itself is telling perhaps.
I don’t really see your stance, personally.
Have they lost some depth quality up front, yeah, but a lot of that is explained by our best players all having been on ELCs back then. Either way, all the best players up front remain and every contract on the team is movable, I suppose except Tavares due to nmc
The defence is without question improved over what he inherited. Period.
Jury is out on his drafting, but Dubas has received essentially nothing from what Hunter selected outside round 1
The goaltending is downgraded from year 1-2 Freddy, but Freddy hasn’t been that Freddy for a couple years at this point, which is frustrating given how much we’ve improved defensively

No actually stupidity, greed and ignorance for me are If you have all five check yourself ha

Sadly. I keep hoping one day to find a thread without blind hate of something. And it's the one thing that permeates every thread no matter what the title.

Heck, I am just looking forward to hockey. Training camp opening is usually a wonderful time of the year....31 fanbases looking forward with optimism to a possible run at Lord Stanley's Mug.

If you're calling it from now, respect.
What I heard was Rielly wants NMC on rest of existing contract and all 8 years of new deal .. Leafs do not want it to apply to current contract/season and last few years of da 8 year deal .. I am sure they will work it out .. likely slightly higher AAV to compensate OR more bonus paid up front or some mix of each .. or Leafs accept demands .. this stuff getting into weeds with Pridham and Rielly agent but it is a negotiation

If his plan is to use Rielly as an own rental in order to serve his best interests, he should have been fired yesterday. It is inexcusable to allow Rielly to walk for nothing. Fail to get to round #2 and watching Rielly walk for nothing will make this past off season look like a picnic in terms of fan anger.

Unless you'd be completely on board with us not bringing in a replacement for Rielly and not using his cap space going into the playoffs this stance is fundamentally irrational.

No doubt Dubas inherited a pretty desirable, unprecedented situation but his successor will also be in a pretty good spot.
Difference IMO is, Dubas had tons of cap to do what he wanted while his successor will have a better roster but hands tied by limited cap space.

Not sure which is better, time will tell if we're being honest.

It was Rielly’s idea to give his spot to Barrie, in hopes it would get him going. He is the definition of a team guy. So probably not very
Why is team guy not signed already. He’s going to walk away for nothing like so many that preceded him. Hard to expect proper management when they dug their hole so deep that they have to win or they are fired. Sign or trade before the season starts is the smart play.

Except that's not a fact. Rielly had more time on the PP in the playoffs too, for the record. Sandin - an offensively talented player - was given a few games on the top-PP, when the PP had been struggling, and Rielly was already playing a ton of minutes. There's absolutely zero reason to think that Rielly was upset about that.

I pity the GM who takes over the train wreck Dubas will be leaving. Potentially, no #1 goalie and no Rielly, 3 draft picks this summer, cap hell, small skilled prospects. The only silver lining is that the Dubasites will disappear.
i don't think so. IF dubas is fired the incoming GM has a wealth of NHL ready players to trade/ assess. We have four guys that would command an absolute bucket load. If the incoming GM can't figure out how to use his resources then we shouldn't be hiring him. There are plenty of options here.

I’d add the lack of picks will catch up with us soon.
