We got caught slow tonight. The Sabres are quick team and we had too many players playing who are, to put it mildly, not fleet of foot. Laine, Gallagher, Savard, Armia and Xhekaj are, at best, average skaters. You can get away with a couple of slow pokes but when over 25% of your skaters aren’t superior skaters you get what you saw tonight.They got the win, good. Young club will learn. People here seem to forget that our top 4 players in points are aged between 20 to 25. This is a very young team, 2nd youngest in the league. Those situations will happen.
But they won. And playing meaningful games so late in the season, which was the main goal at the start. Enjoy it!
I’m sure Hughes took note. Or, at least, I hope he did.
