What did he say and what do you expect him to say ??

I expect someone who would be mad moving to PP2 to not suggest it.
Morgan, when Sheldon came into the job, went to Sheldon and said he would have no problem, if it was what was best for the team, going to the second power-play unit to put Tyson on the first unit so that Tyson could get going. If we were going to reach our potential, everyone felt it was important that Tyson played the way we knew he was capable of playing.

Morgan Rielly on his contract status heading into a UFA year: “You all know how I feel about being a Leaf, but there’s a business aspect to it.”

You could literally just replace Rielly with Hyman for the quote...I get the same vibes. Team and player like one another but can't make $$ work.

Here is the bottom line, if you don't know him, don't listen to what he says, how on earth have you concluded what he is thinking? Clearly the answer is, you can't.

No true #1 goalie. Good chance we see Hutch again this year.
We have two good goalies. Hutchinson is #3 on the depth chart, and one of the better #3 goalies in the league.
4 draft picks last year, 3 this year
We've had 30 draft picks over his 4 drafts. Pretty much every competitive team moves out draft picks, and we were able to do that confidently this year (a weak draft year) because our prospect pipeline is in good shape.
cap hell which has seen many players thrown overboard to the point where our bottom 6 is a joke
We're not in cap hell. Every team sees turnover in UFA. We've gained more from UFA under Dubas than we've lost. Our bottom six is not a joke at all. I think you overestimate what the bottom six looks like on most teams.

Fact is, there's no reason to think Dubas would be leaving anytime soon, but if he does, he'd be leaving behind an amazing situation. Much better than what he walked into.

What did he say about being replaced by a rookie who only played a handful of games last season ?? Rielly took one for the team. Does not mean he has to be happy about it IMO.

This is what you call projecting. You're angry that he was, you think that he should be and think that he was despite everything pointing that he isn't.

The Leafs could tell you the sky is blue and you'd try to turn it into a discussion that it isn't because you hate the sky.

I don't know, ask him.

He seems like a team player and puts the team first, he was fine with Barrie doing it, I don't think Rielly is dumb and realized the PP wasn't going, so I am sure he was fine with switching it up.

These are adults, I am sure Keefe and Rielly had a discussion and the reasoning was presented to him.

This is a fact of life in pro sports everywhere it is not just a Leaf issue .. I think they are very close on both term and AAV and it is down to NMC and what years it applies .. of course NMC's term change AAV so it gets tricky to manage .. but both sides want it done and it will get done before season starts
Absolutely, GM’s always sacrifice for their jobs, nothing new here.

I pity the GM who takes over the train wreck Dubas will be leaving. Potentially, no #1 goalie and no Rielly, 3 draft picks this summer, cap hell, small skilled prospects. The only silver lining is that the Dubasites will disappear.
It certainly isn’t what he was gifted when he came in, that in and of itself is telling perhaps.

Time will tell if you are right.

Yes, speculation only. Same way Ziggy and Kypreos have speculated in the past and this morning.

The clear bar of hockey opinions. Kypreos and Ziggy...

"This was my idea and I want this"

"Is it though... Is it? I'd be pissed, therefore you must be pissed, so I don't believe you."

I am now on board with ToneDog, we should trade Rielly for futures since we shouldn't resign him to market rate, and then give Dubas a few more years at the helm since it will be a mini retool by doing this.

I believe he and Keefe are on the last year of their deals. Keep dreaming his job is not hanging off a thread.
If that is true I would expect extensions to come soon. Obviously their jobs are hanging by a thread but they won't leave them as lame ducks.

But I was told "Fact is, there's no reason to think Dubas would be leaving anytime soon, but if he does, he'd be leaving behind an amazing situation. Much better than what he walked into.".
