Did a decent Lou impression but let you read in between the lines.

Only thing I am still uncomfortable about is that Rielly is likely going to walk to UFA.

According to?

He has said it is a top priority.

If I was in Dubas' position I'd want to see what I have out of some of the prospects before I decide how much I am willing to spend on Rielly.

Not just that, but if, and how much the cap might grow.

I think they will sign Rielly. They have a lot of pending UFA's heading into this off-season so they can restructure the team again after they give Rielly what he wants. Which is likely to be 8-9 million.

It will grow by 1M according to Seravelli...and 1M per year for like the next 3-4 years.

We're gaining Kessel's 1.2M too so we basically know what we're getting.

Anything over 7M I would probably walk from Rielly to be honest. The defensive warts are just so bad.

8-9M could probably get you 2 "top 4" defenseman.

the problem is top dmen just don't make it to UFA. Who's going to step in and replace him, there isn't a marquee dman that's going to hit the market that is better than him. We don't have the same defensive depth Carolina had as they were comfortable to let him go. They are going to sign him because he's a top defenseman, also Rielly wants to be here.

These are pending UFA...

Some clear upgrades over Rielly in there. Sandin might help off-set the offense and you could grab a more defensive guy.

If a guy like Pulock somehow made it to UFA, I would be allllll over that.

I can't disagree with the 7M, and his warts. The challenge being, what is this team like without him? Can Sandin/Dermott/Liljegren step up and replace the positive? I hate to say it, but it wouldn't hurt this team, to be without Rielly for a little bit, early in the season, to make some judgement calls. Can we survive without him? Can we afford to move him? What would we get in return, whom could we bring in, if what we have isn't good enough?

Tough spot, as without him, we might be worse going into playoffs, but you hate to lose a player of that quality without a return.

Clearly he doesn't want a deep discount, near what he currently was paid, or it would be signed already.. it's just how much.

Not really many clear upgrades at all over Rielly... like who?

I'd take Pulock and Lindholm over Rielly. I think people forget about Lindholm because of Anaheim being so bad. Klingberg probably the RD version of Rielly but cleaned himself up a bit more defensively lately.

I expect Pulock and Klingberg to be re-signed.

If you wanted to go "budget" style and try to do 2 defenseman to replace Rielly similar how we signed a few LW to replace Hyman they could probably afford...

Leddy+ someone else
Justin Schultz + someone else

I would guess depending on handedness that could also effect what happens with Holl too.

Muzzin-Pulock would be sexy as hell or Lindholm-Brodie

Thing is, Lindholm will get just as much as Rielly and Pulock will probably get close to that as well. They will both easily get over 7M. Klingberg fits in this too, but he will re-sign in Dallas I'm sure.

Leddy, Schultz and the rest of the defenseman in that list are nowhere near as good, even if cheaper.

come on, Pulock ain't making it to UFA and half of that list is over 35. I'd take Rielly over most of that list except for Lindholm, Klingberg and Pulock.. and tbh Lindholm is the only realistic one who may hit UFA. Rielly out and Lindholm in makes sense but it's not like Lindholm will be cheap

If his plan is to use Rielly as an own rental in order to serve his best interests, he should have been fired yesterday. It is inexcusable to allow Rielly to walk for nothing. Fail to get to round #2 and watching Rielly walk for nothing will make this past off season look like a picnic in terms of fan anger.

Misleading interpretation of what Dubai said. He was talking about offers on any player on the team. The question though was directly about Marner.
It’s not misleading its lying. Dubas said he will not tell reporters anything on any specific player. Pretty clear lies reporting. Why is he being a liar?

I'm okay with Lindholm or Pulock pulling 7-8M. Pulock is a shot threat on the PP, better than Rielly defensively. Lindholm can make a good break out pass...and play shut down minutes / #1 PK

Schultz/Leddy can pick up cheap PP points but maybe you sign a Ryan Murray or someone like that in addition to make your overall D pairs stronger.

Rielly can't really PK or do match up duties and isn't really a shot threat.

I like Morgan Rielly the person but I think our team can do better. I think if you can make a good break out pass and have some decent wheels, you can get points on this team because of the weapons up front.

That 72 point season is in the rear view mirror at this point.

All three of Pulock, Lindholm and Klingberg are good names. The challenge of course, do they go to UFA, and if they do... do they provide any savings over Rielly. We saw what happens this year, with some massive overpayments.

Schultz I don't see...

I'd just hope that if we can't get a deal done with Mo, we find a way to make changes sooner, than later. Bringing a Lindholm in, and extending for example. I'm not sure if Rangers would do it, but they make big splashes, so I'd ask for Miller and Schneider for Mo.

Absolutely misleading. When the answer speaks to that he would only answer in general to all the players on the team. Comprehension should be high on the list for being hired as a reporter.
He was asked about Marner and he gave the answer within that context. GM’s generalize all the time when asked a specific question, but it’s still relevant.

agreed which is why I think there is a 0% chance Rielly will hit the UFA market and an extension is imminent. We may not like the number but I believe they will get it done and reset the roster with so many pending UFA's. Like you have to believe Engvall, Simmonds, Spezza, Brooks, Mikhayev and maybe even Kase won't be back next year

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I understand how badly you see Rielly and what not but I don't think Pulock or Lindholm are worth more than him at all in any category, even if they are good players in their own right. And then trying to say that a combo of Schultz, Leddy and/or Ryan Freaking Murray could end up being good stuff...

If you want to dumb down Rielly to just being a passenger that can pass and get easy points, I don't know what to tell you.

not sure why you like Schultz and Leddy both are not very good anymore. PP guys and nothing more than that, we might as well give Hollowell, Dermott, Sandin, Liljregren more opportunity as opposed to sign those two.
