I would do Rielly-Lilly too. You need to push guys like Lilly and Sandin to see how good can they be. Lilly also offers the strengths that can help Rielly.
Also Rielly has gone though 4 coaches, and how has someone not taught him gap control?

After four coaches, maybe it's not the coaches?

Agree... why not try Rielly and Lilly, maybe it works, or not???

I'm thinking this, because there is no other reasonable explanation as to why they're so all over the place. They've got so much talent and yet, now there is an other explanation (psst the one you don't want to hear, and the one no one want's to acknowledge).

Time for a fresh start

Hand Keefe his pink slip, hire Barry Trotz

trade pkg 2 different teams

Auston Matthews + Engvall + Holl + Gaudette(750K)+ Malgin(750) (Minny can waive one of the last two guys Leafs need contract slots Minny has 4 open) 16,640,250

2023 1st + 2024 1st Joel Erikson Ek + Jacob Middleton + Marcus Foligno + Matt Dumba 16,800,000 after waivers Minny picks up 1,659,750 in cap space

Auston Matthews + Engvall + Holl + Gaudette(750K) 15,890,000

Ryan Strome + Troy Terry + John Klingberg (if Klingberg doesn't re-sign 1st 2024 Boston 2nd 2024) 13,450m

Just no to these trades.

ok, something needs to change though

I have no way of knowing so it's just a feeling that there is something wrong in the room, I don't think the team is as harmonious as they like to say, in fact they say it a little bit too much.

You listen to other teams interviews, you hear a little bit of "great guy's" chat, you don't from Vancouver and that team is really sour right now lot's of friction and factions.

Hold on a second. You're trading away a 60 goal reigning mvp for ...........this? When you think of a scenario to trade Matthews, you think...yup....this is it....this is the trade of trades. f***ing hell stop sniffing glue.

If I am trading Matty, the package has to start with the #1OA. What team has the best shot at landing that pick, needs somebody to save the franchise, and would be dying for a player who was raised in the area?

Pretty sure Gary has the power to make this happen.

I'm sorry, but if we're even talking about trading Auston Matthews, it a) had better be because he isn't extending here, and 2) we had better be getting back a serious haul.
I have a nagging feeling he isn't re-signing in Toronto, I think his landing spot is Los Angeles. Not that it matters but he was born in Cali and it seems he likes show business people and you can't discount the way better weather. By the time his contract concludes the Kings are going to have a ton of room and if they don't Anaheim and/or San Jose will.

I love watching him score goals but for the player it's all about the name on the back and not really the crest on the front. I don't think there is a player in any pro sport that doesn't want to win but it's not necessarily the #1 priority for every player. It's only the fan that sees the crest and championships as the most important thing.

Our #`1 D, who was never great defensively, got worse defensively for some reason. Is it on him, or is his partner no longer capable of babysitting him?

Our best defensive D, is out... maybe permanently.

Arguably our next best D, in Lily is also out.

Ya, of course it's not elite, nor even passable.

So... what is the solution? More importantly, what is THEIR solution going to be?

I've hammered home many times this year... stop searching for the shiny toy offensive player, in Kane... etc... let's figure out what we really need to address... and you know what, it's still early. Maybe Muzzin comes back and plays near his peak, maybe Liljegren grows and becomes a defensive force. Maybe Rielly settles his game down, and it's not a worry... Or the opposite happens.. Right now, the D appears to be a problem, over the coming weeks, we will figure out how serious it is, and what needs addressing.
Ya it isn't looking great and agreed that the leafs should be looking for a good complimentary RHD to fit in the top 4. Older guys generally start the season slow so I think Brodie will be fine though.

I do wonder who is causing who to struggle between the 1st line and Rielly/Brodie pairing given they play together the most. As the season progresses it will be interesting to compare stats when Rielly/Brodie play with Matthews line vs playing with JTs line.

LA seems like a likely destination. They have a lot of prospects that would make sense too. Anyone want to take a crack at a 34 to LA package?

if mathews gets dealt it will be because he said he has no interest in re-signing and we would call arizona for bedard if they won the lottery first. nhl and arizona would get the local superstar to save the team we would get a massive package that includes one of the next ones. plus.

yes plus.

if you looked at the seth jones deal as reference

It would be a bit of a shock for him being relegated from one of the most popular sports celebrities in the biggest hockey market, to being the face of LAs 4th most popular team. Personally I'm not so sure the California teams are as big of a draw for a guy like him

nor drunk, but there's a problem with the Leafs

maybe they're sick and tired of getting jobbed by the officials, maybe they're sick and tired of Keefe saying the same stuff over and over, maybe some of them have had it with getting snow tires...I mean who knows

but something's just not right
So you trade our best player for scraps?

on another note as another year went by and he still is in russia,

would people be ok with something along the lines of

engval + holl for schenn and the rights to tryamkin or even engval for the rights

after the last game i would be happy if neither played another game in our sweater
