That's a serious overrating of Stewart.

Stewart is an absolute beast, 18 goals, 18 assists and 40 PIM last year in a short season.

And he is on track to be near those numbers again.

I would love to have a player like him on this team, seems like a guy that a lot of people might not be familiar with because he plays in the West.

He has 5 goals in 25 games.

He is wildly inconsistent. Beast when he's on, non-factor when he isn't. A tougher Wojtek Wolski.

Kane-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Stewart
Hagelin-Boyle-Callahan
McGrattan-Moore-Dorsett

Thats my team. Probably can't be done. I am also probably the only one who wants it too.
:)

still more or as many goals as : Stepan, Brassard, Zuccarello, Pouliot,

while providing the tough stuff.

The kind of players that are very hard to find in this league.

scored more goals than Callahan, Richard, hagelin and tied stepan last season.

I'm not saying he is better players than them, but he provides an element to the game that those guys don't, while STILL being able to put up good offensive numbers

Richards is still our 1C. Fill in the wings with flashy names, it won't matter.

This. 1000x this. You see all around the league elite centers can carry mediocre wingers. It rarely works the other way.

Rangers need an elite center in the worst way. They likely will for a while.

Devils advocate:

I has said earlier that we need a #1 center and we still do, but Toronto somehow scores without one. Kessel is great, but still.

Kessel is really an incredible player. Not many wingers can carry a line. Kane, Kessel, Ovechkin, St. Louis, who else? No one, really. Most championship teams are lauded for their center depth rather than their wing depth - even Chicago has Toews to go with Kane, so the need for a second line center drops with Kane.

I'm not writing out my post again but he's SERIOUSLY inconsistent (you thought Gabby was inconsistent, Stewart will give you an aneurysm). And he only plays physical in short bursts. He's not this imposing bully that everyone thinks he is. He plays physical when he feels like it.

Isn't Richards out elite centerm...wasn't everyone saying what a bargin he was 2 years ago...how he took less to come here.

Fast forward 2 years and now what...

Clark has put too much emphasis on speed and he forgot about grit, size and mean players.

Sather is a idiot who watches what everyone else is doing. When Ducks won the cup hewent for size, then Pens won and he went for skill and then the Bruins won and he went with grit again.

Guy is a clown and our owner is a bigger fool.

I know this is a cliche, but no one on this team is untouchable in terms of trades (outside of Kreider and McDonagh); some have no trade/movement clauses, but they can be negotiated. This team is going no where, so if the inconsistency continues, see what the market is for everyone on the roster and go from there.

Yes. He forgot about size and nastiness when he drafted a mean-as-hell shutdown defender with the highest pick we've had in years.

The problem is not that we went for speed. It's that we don't have enough skill. It's that we don't have enough skill. Even when the speed was working we still couldn't score. I don't think Chicago is complaining about speed.

Yup - and he'll turn out to be a great pick in a couple of years - especially when playing teams like the Bruins.

Absolutely, especially as he comes into his own just in time for Lundqvist's prime to be over, Callahan's prime to be winding down, and for the team to still have failed to address the most important needs in this league today, playmaking and skill, just as they have failed to do so for decades, and just as they did the day they drafted McIlrath and passed over Tarasenko. Tarasenko, who is on pace for 27 goals in his second season. He currently has 8, which would make him the highest goal scorer on the Rangers today.

I love our captain and even if his current play isn't indicative of his prime indeed being over, the guy won't make or break this team honestly.

I think the simplicity of your response is whats unfortunate.

For all their struggles, Lundqvist and Callahan are still positives to this roster. Instead of going after the better players, perhaps it'd be a better tactic to go after the 5-7 guys on the roster that offer zilch.

I usually agree with the substance you offer BRB but,...

Those 5-7 guys you speak of dont make $4+ million and are due for a new contract. Callahan has been awful, bottom line. He isn't hitting anybody. At least when Dubinsky wasn't producing, he was still, effective in other areas. Normally Callahan does that, but for weeks we have not seen that. Looks like a completely different player, an ineffective one.
