I've got news for you folks, Stepan is a #1 center. By definition around here, only Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Backstrom, Datsyuk, and Stamkos are #1 centers. Consistency has been an issue this year. There aren't many centers in this league that give you at least 60 points a year with great defense.

The issue is not with Stepan, but what comes after him. Grinders, and a pair of inconsistent 2nd/3rd line tweeners, one overpaid and the other wildly inconsistent. We lack a true #2, not #1.

The Rangers should have bought Richards out in June. There was a split in the Rangers front office. Some wanted him gone. He was kept. He was better in 11-12 when he looked average. The Rangers need major changes. They have some nice pieces. Maybe take a step back to two steps forward instead of patching every hole.

This X 2 please!

Sorry management has been right in keeping Richards . No ufa could do what he's doing and it would of cost a multi yr deal. It's a risk but buying him out this offseason is best. I don't think they should apologize for trying to win now which is why Richards was signed in the first place

What has Richards done? He has 7 goals in 26 games. Four in the first five games. Brassard has five. You people need to get this idea that free agency is the way to build a team. Win now. They're a .500 team is a ****** conference. A good portion of the season has been played. You always like the veteran guys. I remember you wanted to send Stepan to the AHL in his rookie season. The Rangers have been either a bad or middling hockey team except for one season since Slats has been the boss.

Sather seems to be famous for his patchwork.

He was inquiring about Vinny Prospal this past year after we got off to a poor start.

Excellent post RB!

The Rangers need to make some tough decisions very soon. They will need to decide which of their FA's they wish to resign and who to trade. Although this is a question for the off season, it wil impact them this season, because they need to trade the FA's they do not wish to keep, and get good assets in return. They can't make themselves believe that they're a contender this year, and keep all their FA's only to make them walk in the summer, and get nothing in return. The only thing more stupid would be to resign all of them! They need to prepare the table for next year and the coming seasons.

Question is, can Sather and company make the right decisions??

Richards has stunk after the first 5 games. Cutting him lose last offseason and NOT SIGNING A GOD DAMNED PERSON would have been the correct long-term move for this team...but we cant think that way, can we?

Would've been nothing wrong with that. Just because we have the cap space, doesn't mean we need to spend up to the ceiling.

Exactly , Brad Richards is not the problem this yr. no one else was avail as a ufa . Unless he gets hurt it was a good move to keep him around one more yr. next yr they need his money for raises

they kept richards around..

1-bc they knew he'd bounce back better then last year..
2-biggest of all is bc the buyout wouldv'e been a lot of $$$$$ and Dolan didn't want to do that..

but its not patch work.. when we got brad that was the one piece we needed a 1c to ocmplete our team.. this team is built not built through FA..most teams in this league dont have this many homegrown players and making impacts the way they do.. some of you are ****en clueless.. and just love flash and dash and points and what not.. you say sather is famous for patch work..

hahahah you fans love patch work.. bc as soon as one player plays bad or having consistency issues you guys write him off and want to trade them.. stepan should've been traded 10x by now..dz, bras, nash staal hank, girardi etc.. and have the debate of callahan and hags being 3rd liners.. you guys need to pick a different team to root for..

Also stepan is 1c.. stop the debate.. everything isn't points.. he plays in every role/situation possible..

this team has issues.. but you guys need to step back from the ledge.. we're not going 82-0 and there will be ups and downs.. consistency is the hardest thing to accomplish in any pro league..

there is no blueprint to win a cup.. every team is different then the next

Center anchors of recent Cup winners: Toews, Kopitar, Crosby/Malkin, Datsyuk/Zetterberg. I love Derek but he is not on the level. You can argue he is close to the same level that the Bruins had when they won. Except the Bruins had 2 players on that level (Bergeron/Krejci) plus an underrated Perverly plus a young #2 draft pick in Seguin who could play C when necessary.

i have to laugh at the hockey wisdom that is always spouted by some after the fact...

If we dealt for ROR, then I could understand parting with Richards. He was the #1C that was going to put us over the top! This isn't building a team through UFA! Thats BS! It supplementation.

You buyout richards this year you might as well sell the farm because we have nothing down the middle.

he'll be gone this summer.

Playing around with Richards whose contract can come back to bite us real hard if we can't amnesty him at the end of the year was a big mistake. He's better than he was last year but he's no longer a 1st line center and when he's no longer a 1st line center it means he's on the decline. At his age he's not going to become a better player (it just doesn't work that way) and he has 6 years still left to go to get worse. It was not smart hanging on to him. The possible benefit of keeping him hoping he'd rebound a bit is not worth the risk of his getting injured and us being stuck with a contract that could turn out worse than either Drury's or Redden's.

The next issue is Del Zotto. He's obviously on the outs with his coach and where he plays his best on the left side there's no room for him. What can he bring back? How long do we wait to move him?

Right now the Rangers are treading water. They go one game above .500--they go one game below. A third of the season is over. We're spinning our wheels. We have lots of home games left but we're playing like **** at home. Right now this is a mediocre team.

Who cares what we get for DZ? Just get something for him and just get something for pouliot and something for pyatt. A trade for a player like ROR or Stewart is a good idea but that won't happen till after the season, we need to trade for players like that buy out Richie and stay young for a year or 2. Draft we'll build within.

Scratch all of that we root for the rangers it'll never happen. This is New York people, there's no such thing as rebuild in this city when it comes to sports

Does MTL like DZ?

Beaucoup de rumeurs entre les #Habs et les #Rangers récemment. Le recruteur du Canadien Mark Mowers sera à New York cet après-midi.

Lot of rumors between the #Habs and the #Rangers recently. Canadian Mark Mowers recruiter will be in New York this afternoon.

Mowers is a Habs pro scout.

That team is loaded with long-term bloated contracts. Don't want or need.

Lars Eller.

so............Del Zotto, Pyatt, Pouliot, Bourque and a second for Max Pac? Did I get the proposal right?:sarcasm::laugh:
