Dubas' idea of bringing in leadership was Marleau and Thornton...two guys who never won a thing and have the most 'don't give a shit' attitudes in the league.
Marleau had the C stripped ffs lol
Teach them how to let others do all the rough work and just follow, no need to go all out and risk injuries and hurt the Ironman streakWhat did he do?
That’s certainly a theoryTeach them how to let others do all the rough work and just follow, no need to go all out and risk injuries and hurt the Ironman streak
I remember early on with Marleau, Kadri had been dumped in front of the net and got up to go at the player who dumped him and Marleau skated up and said "come on guys take it easy" That sums up what he brought to the leafs. When Foligno showed up and it may have even been his first game and he wanted to go after someone and stick up for a teammate and Keefe reeled him in and told him not to...Folignos expression said it all...like wtf? Hopefully with Dubas gone and the things that Treliving has said about how he likes his teams to play will end that all star game mentality.Teach them how to let others do all the rough work and just follow, no need to go all out and risk injuries and hurt the Ironman streak
If HF actually took it serious I'd gladly throw a few bucks their way. But 99% guaranteed they won't, so it doesn't make any sense to.
Skill rules the regular season, then the playoffs happen and that other stuff rules. Probably the thing I hate the 2nd most (the first is Bettman) about the NHL!Hockey has changed a lot over past few years .. hockey is not religion for most of these kids today .. guys don't go through walls for da coach anymore .. no one taps you on da shoulder .. guys are more concerned about getting their contracts before they exit hockey .. before we played to make da show and that was what it was all about .. ya died trying while most never made it .. it is cultural and societal too as things have gotten much softer and more legal as time passes on .. there are not as many nasty pricks who play anymore .. skill rules da day .. hooking interference and smash into glass heads up does not cut it anymore .. it is just a different game
If other teams players are mentioning our locker room as being quiet...how bad must it be to have Marchesault and Reaves mentioning it? My friends son ran into Pat Maroon last summer and they talked about the Leafs and Maroon kept telling him we don't have a team and that they will never win a cup with this group of guys. Seems like he was more accurate than our roving reporters that ask softball questions about whether or not Kerfoot is the DJ or just a super nice guy.A forced team dinner isn't the solution, the absence of the naturally occurring team dinner is a symptom of something else.
When a noted mercenary doesn't want the same money to play for your team that is within spitting distance of his relatives...that might be saying something about your teams makeup.I mentioned about that bc in the All or Nothing series, Foligno was introduced to the team during breakfast or lunch. That’s why it is odd that they don’t have dinner together.
Well, wouldn’t it make ROR’s comment more valid, since he has been on many teams and seen different team cultures and saw something in the Leafs dressing room that he hadn’t seen.
Every team has a bunch of individuals.we don't have a team.
we have a bunch of individuals.
Same as me giving constructive feedback that I think it's bizarre for a Leafs hater to be spending his or her free time posting on a Leafs board.Constructive feedback does not mean you should stop talking, it's just constructive feedback that hopefully makes you take pause and think about your POV.
I love the Leafs and they are probably my #1 team to hate, 57 years of embarrassing shenanigans and a soap opera like environment will make even the kindest heart a lot jaded. This team is a circus at the best of times.
Not sure chill dudes are meant to survive in the playoffs, unless you're talking about Phil the ThrillDidn't say it was a wise choice but it was done to bring leadership to the team. Marleau and Joe are very well respected in the hockey community. I think you're equating a chill personality with a don't give a shit personality.
That's why you always need a glue guy to make it a team.Every team has a bunch of individuals.

I think many nights Holl mistook that for smelling salts pre-game.That's why you always need a glue guy to make it a team.

Agree. I think the last glue guy the Leafs had was Naz. He struck me as getting along with all the cliques in the lockerroom. He could take shit and hand it out. That's why you always need a glue guy to make it a team.

Because no one on this site does anything to stop him. I pressed "like" on another teams board on a comment once, never again. But this dudes been showing up to our boards for like the past 5 years, especially after a big loss. And what was their source?
Remind me why you feel the need to post here when you're one of the more consistent Leaf trolls on HF?

As for the topic, that is a pretty big concern. I mean shit I played sports in high school and we made it mandatory for the team to have lunch/dinner together after a game or practice. Not even because of a rule, just because we were all like brothers and genuinely wanted to be in each others company more, communicate about how we can improve and just hang out and talk like guys do with their friends. For a professional sports team to not do that, is pretty alarming.
These guys just all want to be to themselves, not properly interact with one another, something is very seriously wrong. It makes sense why no one got fired up after Knies was taken down by Bennett in the playoffs. If that happened to one of their brothers, nobody would just stand and watch. But they're not brothers, they're just guys they play with.
Another reason on the list as to why the core needs a shakeup. It's not always a bad thing, look at what Buffalo got for Eichel/ROR. Not like we're trading one of the core guys for a scrub, get a quality piece back.
Exhibit B: The quality of free agents Treliving was able to attract this summer. Word is out that this isn't a highly desirable destination any longer. While it's wonderful that BT recognized that none of Klingberg, Domi nor Bertuzzi are the type of player you lock in over the long term, it's troubling that these were the type of players BT had to resort to this summer. Upon sober reflection, that trio are simply the best of the free agency leftovers from a weak free agency year. They are the ones worth taking a one year flyer on.
Bertuzzi and Domi (and Klingberg) were UFAs with identifiable issues. If want to deny that observation, go ahead. Frankly I don't get why you'd care other than you find my musings convincing. Consider me flattered.I believe you mean “upon review of how I can possibly attempt to spin 2 desireable freeagents signing here as somehow supportive of my overtly negative agenda”
Bertuzzi and Domi choosing to bet on themselves for 1 year is in no way indicative that they were not highly sought after nor is it that multi year offers were not available to them.
And in fact, directly contrary to your assertion, them choosing to play here for 1 year to re-enter a stronger market next offseason, when most teams could make 1 year work, indicates rather clearly that they chose our team over others
