It's not the dinners so much as its a symptom of the disease, which is shitty team chemistry, Dubas knew it too, he brought in Marleau, Jumbo, Rielly, Gio, Brodie, kept vets as "own" rentals in the hope that it would provide some locker room glue. Then you look at the expectation that every core player has to be paid as if they are coming off a hot UFA market, when other teams like Boston, Carolina, NJ, Tampa can get their stars to sign team friendly contracts. Yes TB has no income tax, but you also can't get 6 figure endorsement deals for one day in the studio in Tampa, like you can in Toronto.

It's a people issue, its never been a skill issue.

TBH if my boss mandated that we all eat together when we are on the road, I'd probably look for a job elsewhere. Then again in my job, I dont need to have chemistry with a colleague like you do in team sport. It's my time, not company time.
Dubas' idea of bringing in leadership was Marleau and Thornton...two guys who never won a thing and have the most 'don't give a shit' attitudes in the league.

Marleau had the C stripped ffs lol

I have 3 children. The last time we all regularly sat for a meal was when they were early teens. Doesn't really happen.
Your family lacks leadership, I'd strip the C off you and give it to your wife

I find these threads entertaining as heck. But I may be a different cat who doesn't put pro athletes, musicians, actors, e-celebs and politicians on pedestals (or portray them as villains.) Imagine still doing that in 2023.

Amen .. there are no more late late night bus trip stops at McDicks to load up on way to next town .. no more guys drinking beer and smoking cigars on da bus ride up/down 69 .. no more we'll get our skating legs back at camp and lose 20 lbs in 1st few days of conditioning .. no more rook fights on day 1 of camp .. today these kids are expected to be in tip top shape for a 2 week camp with EX games starting 1st weekend .. guys are in ridiculously great condition now .. there is a NIGHT v DAY difference in nutrition, medical/healthcare and dealing with injuries OMG it makes me LOL to see what my kids did
They still need to eat .

That’s a societal issue, imo. We try to eat together every Sunday at lunch at Memaw’s

The saddest thing I've seen at a nice family restaurant was the time I saw an elderly man in his late 70's dressed in his neatly pressed casual outfit sitting across from his 20-something grandkids who sat fiddling with their phones the entire time. I almost said something, and probably should have, because they could've all bonded over the crazy busybody.

Can you blame them?

It’s important that a team gels together off the ice, in order to gel better on the ice, imo. If there is a division in the room, it definitely needs to be addressed.
I believe it was tried to be addressed, and the high paid non leaders said FU, Dubas agreed and the team failed.

If you were on a trip together you wouldn't eat together?
Yes of course but in general day to day life it is a thing of da past when moms stayed at home full time 40 years ago and made their family a meal every night .. most of folks on here don't even know that world even existed .. it is relic like goon fighting, dinosaurs and grandfather clocks

I wouldn't expect the players to eat together while at home.

Don’t think it can be understated how detrimental it was and continues to be having two career bag-chasing losers be such big influences on our two biggest stars, especially Marleau. The man never signed a contract longer than four years and it looks like Matthews is trying to do the same thing, never signing longer than 5 years.

If you were making a 7 or 8 digit salary, would you be able to suggest a quality restaurant with nutritional food that have tables large enough to accomodate 22 or are we just filling the booths of a MacDonalds?

Easily but the teams travelling secretary would take care of that stuff. This stuff is easily accomplished but I think the issue (if there is one) is more to do with team building more so than actual food.

They got better wingers but center is pretty weak after 1st and 2nd line. Kampf is solid 4th liner that can play 3rd line for bit. So they need 3rd liner center unless Domi is ready to play majority of 3rd line Maybe that's the plan and Domi gets pp2 time as well.

Thornton sure, but Marleau was signed by Lou

Matthews appears to be a toxic team-mate wanting max money, doesnt care about winning. He first and foremost wants the ego of highest paid guy.

We don’t have anything to suggest any of that is true.

Well then the high paid “non-leaders” should be traded. I don’t give a crap how much a player makes, if he thinks he’s too good to be a team first guy, then I have no time for him.

Didn't say it was a wise choice but it was done to bring leadership to the team. Marleau and Joe are very well respected in the hockey community. I think you're equating a chill personality with a don't give a shit personality.

Marleau was more Lou and Babs though.
Otherwise, I agree. Marleau did a numbers on our young guns

We have one of the more bipolar fanbases around, so no, I don't think this section is an echo chamber at all. We're completely full of dissenting opinions lol. Also you're telling me I should welcome dissenting opinions, yet you're basically telling me I'm wrong and to stop talking/caring.

My point was that I find it strange that someone that seems to dislike the Leafs so much and is generally pretty negative towards the team and our fanbase within the general boards feels the need to drop in here. If you disagree that's fine, but as an example, I'm not going to the Habs section and expecting to be welcomed.

This.

Constructive feedback does not mean you should stop talking, it's just constructive feedback that hopefully makes you take pause and think about your POV.

I love the Leafs and they are probably my #1 team to hate, 57 years of embarrassing shenanigans and a soap opera like environment will make even the kindest heart a lot jaded. This team is a circus at the best of times.

Apparently Revo is going to take care of planning the team events.
