I remember early on with Marleau, Kadri had been dumped in front of the net and got up to go at the player who dumped him and Marleau skated up and said "come on guys take it easy" That sums up what he brought to the leafs. When Foligno showed up and it may have even been his first game and he wanted to go after someone and stick up for a teammate and Keefe reeled him in and told him not to...Folignos expression said it all...like wtf? Hopefully with Dubas gone and the things that Treliving has said about how he likes his teams to play will end that all star game mentality.
Hope I’m wrong, but that type of team style of play seems to be coming straight from Shanahan and MLSE.

Every team has a bunch of individuals.
I think you know what he meant.

When Reaves, Domi, and Bertuzzi score their first goal for the Leafs the fans are going to go nuts. That will create a great team culture. Entertainment, winning, playoff wins, and happy fans are a recipe for success.
108 defensemen have ever clipped 100 goals. We have Rielly at 73 and Klingburg at 81 I think Klingburg should get a few here too.

It’ll be telling after we see what else Treliving does with the Leafs and what Dubas does in Pitt.

It seems that the Leafs strategy is to surround the core with players that can carry them in playoffs.

If HF actually took it serious I'd gladly throw a few bucks their way. But 99% guaranteed they won't, so it doesn't make any sense to.
:thumbu:

I find these threads entertaining as heck. But I may be a different cat who doesn't put pro athletes, musicians, actors, e-celebs and politicians on pedestals (or portray them as villains.) Imagine still doing that in 2023.
Love the user pic!

No it doesn’t. They are very clearly trying to find the right players to complement the core, not carry them. That’s entirely different

The core is 5 similar players. Their complimentary players have to be the catalysts.

Yup, and that is so wrong. It should be the other way around!
Keep a couple of them and find top 6 players that like playoff hockey.
Speed would also help.

You guys really believe what O'Reilly says.. the dude left avs to go Sabres lol than left Sabres to go blues, than came here and left a contending team for a nonplayoff team for cash lol.... stop feeding the media. They will do anything to get fans rattled

What did he said that is new to us?

The biggest thing he said was there were plans that they could tried against Panthers but they ended up just sticking with their original game plan.

How is that new knowledge? Most if not all of us have been saying Keefe lacks of adjustments in playoffs is one of the reasons why they only won ONE round in the past 4 yrs.

What else did he said that just came out of the blue and something completely new? The dinner thing was from Keefe.

It is a huge smack in the face that he didn’t choose to extend with the Leafs bc Leafs could offer that deal and more which lead to a lot of speculations as to why he didn’t sign with us. But why does that had to do with anything he said esp if what he said made sense.

My view of the team hasn't really changed since we were bounced; Domi, Bertuzzi, Klingberg and Reeves notwithstanding. While I have nothing but admiration for the skills our top players have, especially as a group, I no longer have confidence in their abilities to produce in the playoffs. When Morgan Rielly is your toughest, most physically engaged player out of your top 5 - kudos Morgan - you're going to have difficulties moving past teams that are playing a more physically challenging style of game. The time to address this has passed. I would guess we're going to see a successful regular season next year, we have talent that few teams have. I'm less confident that we will see anything different come the playoffs, unless we see some exceptional goaltending.

Like everyone else, I'll be watching come the fall (after all, I'm a fan of the Leafs, what a curse) but for the first time in 6 years, it won't be with the anticipation that this team can go all the way.
