Well then enjoy being let down. Lol even If they win deep down inside you'll know you didn't believe.
When they give me reason to, as in not disappearing when it’s crunch time, then I’ll believe. After 7 years, I’m still waiting. Do not care what they do in the regular season. Maybe they should try to save some for when it’s absolutely necessary, as in being able to close out series, and showing up on time and staying engaged in playoff games. Hard to believe after 7 years they haven’t figured that out yet. smh

Lets see.

As of July 12th 2023

The teams opening night top 6 is better than it's been in 20 years.

The overall winger depth is better than it's been in 20 years.

The defense is more talnted and deeper than It's been in 20 years.

The goaltending is more talnted and deeper than It's been in 20 years.

That's not to say there aren't issues specifically 3rd line center.

But overall this team is stronger than it's been since 2003-2004
Until the playoffs when everybody fades and they can’t dig deep yet again. Ignoring the problem and doing it all over again every year doesn’t make it go away.

Toronto is just a place to come to work for those who prefer a house bigger than a garage and love to cook in a space with more than 2 appliances.

So you need Toronto to provide the life you lead yet feel the need to put it down. You need Toronto and you resent it. Stay home - earn your dollars in the Hammer. You don't need Toronto right? Why can't your awesome city provide you with all you need? Perhaps just not as good as Toronto - you know this yet you're all resentful of the city that so many rely on to pay for their house that's bigger than a garage

I don't live in hamilton.i live on the route of the upper Canada rebelion.. They paid a visit too. I was born in Toronto but the riff raff drove me out. I don't like to slum it.

what I believe the problem is, they just dont care about the playoffs. I mean they might care but its not about winning, its about winning enough so they dont seem like complete failures.

it feels like our stars dont like to play for free even if they can possibly win a stanley cup, the longer their playoff run goes the short their summer is.

Matthews, Marner and Nylander will get paid no matter what I assume short term extensions or they all walk to a destination that's quiet with next to zero fan noise.

that's my prediction

The biggest problem with our core 4 is that they get paid the same if they make the playoff or don’t make them some there is no incentive for this money fueled foursome to go any further.

Yup, it seems that now, as in the last negotiations, it’s all about getting paid, to hell with what’s best for the team. I’m so sick of hearing them say that they love it here and want to stay, but still want to get every last nickel they can squeeze out of management, who by the way, seem fine with giving it to them (Matthews and Marner).

In Matthews case he wasn’t brought up in the sport and doesn’t know how to adapt to the difference between the two seasons.

I think they’d all love to win the Cup, but they’re not in a position to give up their income and status to bring in the required players to lead the team.

fully agreed. it was a sarcastic response to the post above.

as a place to live, Toronto is one of the worst places in the world (based on similar comparisons)

but it's a beauty place to visit (and get the hell out of).
An acquaintance of mine, who has his own plane, said it was a great place to visit during Covid. Nothing was open, but he was walking around snapping pictures of him and his son at the Dome

Can exceptional goaltending bring us closer to a Cup? Maybe a round or two, but if AM, MM and JT combined for 1 goal in 5 games, don't think we can win a lot of playoffs games.
Unfortunately, management seems fine with it. 5 straight years with Tavares, and one playoff round win to show for it, with some uninspiring play to go along with it.

No, if you are going by logic there would be 31 teams not contenders for the Stanley Cup.

The reality is there are probably about 10 real contenders this year.

If you believe they are contenders for the presidents trophy and it appears you do.

Then they are by default contenders for the Stanley Cup, you can't be contenders for one and not the other.

It's impossible.
But the way I think about it, if you are truly a contender, then you should be able to win at least a few rounds, which this group has not been able to do for the last 5 years. Until they are able to do that, they are pretenders, something this core seems comfortable with (unless they take a hometown discount this time around, which I’m doubting they will do).

Every team has a bunch of individuals.
Except on some teams teammates stick up for one another whenever needed, something that doesn’t happen too often on this team. But hey, that’s okay because they’re just a bunch of “individuals” anyway. ‘Nuff said. smh

"riff raff" yeah, I figured that was it, not surprising. Toronto home of the Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays - what does your town have? not that. Anyway, stay home Mr. Lily White
