If your going to criticize BriseBois about something it's not the return it's not signing him to a longterm deal before the breakout. He gave out deals to Paul and Hagel before they broke and we got great deals. He also locked up Gourde, Hedman and McDonagh for this last run. So maybe he just doesn't see it in Raddysh?

Not saying this will be the next Clarkson type deal but I cant see this aging that well. He got a 5th to make it suck even more for the leafs at the end of this deal.

Fair points

Raddysh camp may wanted 8 years no matter what and JBB was like no thank you.

BriseBois did the right thing, getting something for a player he couldn't afford to keep. The first half of that contract, give or take a year could be fine...after that it will be tough to justify despite the rising cap. You can definitely find production on the back end for much less than 8.5.

I really believed he would re sign, but you can't blame JBB at all.

When he locked them up, they weren't 30 years old already

1) I'm glad he didnt re-sign here for 8x8.5

2) Would you have signed him for that?

3) Where is the evidence that he even gave us that option and didnt want to go home regardless?
Yes. Some team would have taken him off our hands. Makar is literally about to sign for twice as much. Moser and Kucherov would have helped Raddysh over-produce. No. He isn't that great. He got help from his friends. I am okay with biting that bullet so long as he kept up the good work.

My evidence is that if we offered him the same deal, he'd have signed. As far as I can tell, every player we have ever let walk was offered something too low. If bro was offered a good deal but was simply homesick it would be a first.

Like notice how the Hedman deal came together with zero shenanigans

8x8.5 is a hard pass from me

re: not re-signing Raddysh earlier.

Scouting reports and aging curves aren't fate, but what else do you have to go on?

Congratulations to Darren Raddysh for his impending contract. There’s no way the Lightning should’ve given that reported amount and term and there’s no way he could’ve left that on the table.

I don’t want Carlson for the amount that’s been bandied about, though. I do want JBB to refocus his efforts on acquiring another top two line center.

My first thought was that this was very cheap, but in reality the 5th round pick is for the extra year on the contract.

Raddysh got an extra $3M per out of Toronto and probably an extra three years of term. That’s almost a $40M delta between what the Lightning were probably offering and what he got.

No I think I will criticize him for all of it

It cost us a 3rd just to talk to Guentzel for a couple of extra days and no 8th year incentive.

Toronto did a sign and trade of Marner to Vegas for Nic Roy, who was a legit player and gave them a 1st.

Toronto is a division rival, why help them out?

I called this shit the day JBB said he wanted to see how Raddysh would do the rest of the year, I just didn’t think it would be even worse by gifting him to Toronto

Help them out? By waiting a week and a half just to watch him sign there anyway and losing him for nothing?

It's a rarity to get anything for a pending UFA, so BriseBois did better than most.
