Raddy does not solve their biggest problem.
I think he will. They still have problems, but that was the biggest.

I just don't think there's a good light to see this in. We have a bunch of money to spend on the worst UFA class in ages. I think we just took one big step closer to the necessity of a rebuild.

Help them out? By waiting a week and a half just to watch him sign there anyway and losing him for nothing?

It's a rarity to get anything for a pending UFA, so BriseBois did better than most.

Yes, we helped them out. This was a sign and trade, not a trade and sign. Toronto got Nicholas Roy out of Vegas last year doing the same thing with Marner, and that netted them a 1st this year when they traded him.

Toronto got to incentivize Raddysh with an 8th year, this is the new system and you can get a lot more value back.

At the end of the day I knew this was going to happen, this was never going to be a W for us the moment JBB said he was going to wait and see, he was inherently stating that he was ok giving up contract leverage because he didn’t trust Raddysh was the player we all thought he was.

The derisk cost us the leverage, and so we end up losing a great player. I for one think Raddysh is a top pairing caliber guy, at worst a #3, even if there will be warts on that contract

So at least we skipped the part where jbb takes too long to sign or attempt to sign him then we miss out on all the free agents.

That said now we have to f***ing enter a bidding war for god damn 36 year old Carlson. My f***. This stinks. This geriatric washed ass team has no f***ing chance, what are we doing here.

36 or whatever it is year old washed Hedman will last about 25 games before leaving for weeks cause he’s hurt again (washed too), point will be a ghost and it’s gonna all fall apart.

I didn’t wanna pay that term or amount for Raddysh but he did solve a lot of issues and now we’re back to square one in regards to pp and top pairing level dmen. I just don’t see the vision and I’m getting real tired of all of this. We may be lucky to be the 6th best team in the division next year.

Yep I don’t like gifting him to Toronto i
The this deal was at least worth a 2nd round pick or a the least a 3rd rounder this was a sign and trade not rights

They don't have a bonafide healthy goalie situation. That team still needs like 3-4 more players to be able to compete in division.

I'm happy for raddysh but I'm honestly happy we didn't pay that much. It will not be easy to get that kind of product on the back end again but I think we can fill that slot fine and use that money on something better for us and our needs.

I think I'd feel worse about it if our we didn't see a bunch of young defenseman come up and look pretty good too when hedman and mcdonagh went down for a decent period of time. Also maybe trade him to another place than a division rival but I'm sure since he's from there they knew that's where he wanted to go and getting the 5th is just a trade to get the extra year to finalize it.

When he locked them up, they weren't 30 years old already

He had a couple of prior chances to get him signed long term, he just kept giving him shorter deals for cheap. And you cant blame him because up until 24-25 he wasnt even regular. I think how cap strapped we were he didn't want to do something like a Paul contract to Raddysh because that uncertainty.

JBB just sees Hedman as the pp point guy, in his eyes we didn’t need to pay for the redundancy with Raddysh.

A 5th isn’t enough incentive to help Toronto out at all, that extra year could have saved them 1m AAV. This is a team we are directly competing with, I don’t want to do any favors for them.

GMs knew before the start of this year that caps would be going up drastically, it’s the reason why there are no free agents on the market, there is a lot more cost certainty. He should have extended him this summer

I think its more as a business move. A 5th isn't much but as we saw many posts about it, that he was heading to Toronto to be with family anyway. I think this was them reaching out to Tampa and everyone pretty much already knowing he was going there and wanting that 8th year. You sometimes do things like this for the player and as an organization willing to do those things it looks good in the end. I'm not excited to do that for Toronto either but I think I get it.

JBB doesn’t strike me as a guy who would do this for a player when it could hurt them even a little bit competitively, but you may be right

Raddysh was clearly set on becoming a UFA by looking at this deal, 100% gone. So you either lose him for nothing or work with the parties involved to get something out of it. We had no leverage to begin with. The Marner and Guentzel situations are in no way relevant, all Toronto had to do was just say "fine, we'll just wait for Darren to hit the market". They were willing to pay a 5th for an extra contract year, it wasn't us getting squeezed.

I could be wrong but felt like there was decent respect between raddysh and Tampa. I think it could have even been him who told jbb he's going there and wants that extra year there. You are right we didn't have to do that. I think this was why.

Can't believe ya'll are rallying around a 5th round pick as some kind of carrot that Bresbois of all people would be swayed with. He did this because Raddysh told him he wanted to go there, that's it.

At this point, im dumping serious money on the top forward line. Patch up the D with a budget UFA or trade.

I'd rather do that than give $8-9 to Carlson.

That's basically what I'm saying too? Your comment that BriseBois somehow deserves criticism for not getting more, or that we "helped" Toronto is what I find off base and disagree with.

Edit: He either signs with Toronto on July 1 or we get a 5th for him to accommodate an 8th year... pretty simple and a no brainer for JBB. Unless you think that 8th year is somehow gonna bite us in the ass. You said it yourself, he was set on Toronto.
