You can just say as many things as you like.

Reality is PK is for different than 5v5 checking unless you want the other team in your end for the entire shift or your F just ice the puck.

Is Marner on the checking line? Just sayin

Like I said if you mean traditional, watch/shadow the other guys and sacrifice scoring I disagree completely.

The strength of that line will be to create chances off the rush/stretch the ice and have a hard and heavy forecheck. If having the puck in the other end is considered checking then we agree.

You can classify shutdown anyway you like.

I think they'll be used frequently against top offensive lines to win draws and push the puck down the ice

I really hope Pinto can start winning draws, he was elite in College, but hasn't been able to transfer that skillset yet. I'm pretty confident he can, but until he does I'm not counting on it.

We’ll it won’t be Stu or Norris as the checking line, best scenario for club is if Pinto line can take the checking role.

Also depends if DJ has last change.. and what the other coach matches up if away game.

Also some teams he’ll match head to head top lines

There are a lot of factors, just sayin it’s not black and white.

Giroux could be out there, win the draw then change

Oh I think we absolutely see Norris with Brady and one of Pinto/Giroux/Joseph in defensive checking situations this year.

Why put Formy , Pinto, Joseph in all those leveraged D spots when you can use Brady and Norris with Pinto to get the puck out. You can come right back with Jimmys line.

What is unfortunate is that the one guy who would have been great with Pinto & Formenton, C. Brown sadly didn't want to stay & was traded. They need Joseph to turn into a playmaker & scorer or I imagine DJ will mix up the lines anyway & drop one of Giroux or Batherson down to play on the 3rd line occassionally. They have nine good players DJ can mix & match anytime he wants & my guess ... will.

Seeing as how Formenton has been mentioned in here, it will be interesting and perhaps telling to see what kind of contract he gets i.e., does he get a longer contract.

In terms of clearing cap space for upcoming core players' new contracts, I'd be wondering about Brannstrom, Zaitsev & Formenton. It's unfortunate when there's casualties, but this is by-product of a cap (& a self-imposed cap).

If Formenton thinks he'll be cleared, to some degree, by the ongoing investigations I forsee him sitting out into the start of the season.

I see him getting a 1 year deal at this point in the 1.3M range. I originally thought 2 x 2M AAV but doubt the Sens go past 1 year at this point.

There was an ironic thought that I had. I'd wonder if we could see a deal like the one the Leafs used to move Zaitsev to us? So, in Ottawa's version of this trade, who from the Ottawa roster would be the equivalent of Connor Brown? Ottawa would need to think its both a high priority to move Zaitsev, and also that they didn't have better alternatives. It was just an ironic (yet interesting) musing.

good to see Pinto going to prospect camp

He needs reps and he has a lot to prove this year.

Faceoffs are all about reps. He hardly has any. He will get better at them. Even Crosby was bad when he entered the league.

Pinto is probably the guy that I have the highest hopes for but might be furthest away from achieving them.

I'm hoping he's a middle of the pack or better 3c. But he's only got 17 games under his belt

Some time in the AHL maybe beneficial. He did missed a full season.

So, is the implication that he's regressed due to the injury? I'm sure he'll be a bit rusty but that's what training camp is for. He looked ready for full time NHL hockey two years ago to finish off the season and looked ready before getting hurt last year, I'm not sure what time in the AHL will accomplish for him that the rookie camp and full camp won't provide, if he were coming back mid season sure, but he's likely been cleared to play since shortly after the season ended.

I don't think there is much doubt he jumps right in unless there have been some large set backs. He was the best player on the team in training camp last year.

Yeah, at training camp I thought there was a chance he'd challenge Norris for the #1 center job, of course that was before Norris had a bit of a break out season, but he looked like he'd be a threat for 50 pts with strong two way play.

I like Pinto very very much. I want him to have success ASAP. He was ready for the NHL. I’m only saying that if needed, some time in the AHL should not be seen negatively.

Pinto is too smart to not have on the team. He showed already that he can contribute very well in the NHL, he's not going to Belleville.

With guys like Colin White and Chris Tierney unloaded, theres no one to contest the 3C from Pinto even if he's rusty though.

Started off slow last year, and then missed rest of the year, so could start slow again.

That's not true at all. He only played the first 3 games in their entirety where he was 2nd in ice time for forwards; killing penalties, getting PP time, being matched up against the top lines from Toronto and Dallas, etc. Ottawa took 4 points in those games. Hurt his shoulder the next game after 2 shifts, sat for 3 weeks then played another 5 mins and got hurt again.

If you look at his stats and see one assist over 5 games with a FO% in the 30's, that doesn't look good. But it doesn't describe his play at all. He really only played 3 games where he was sent out against John Tavares, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn and was +1 over that stretch.

Those guys would not have contested Pinto anyway. Was pretty clear from the very few games Pinto played that he was more than a cut above

Honestly, I have a hard time understanding how anybody that watched Pinto play last year and to finish off the year prior would think he had a bad start, or more importantly, that Tierney of all people might contest him for 3rd line center...

I mean, it's been a while since we last saw him play so memories are a bit foggy, but still...

He barely played so there's that I guess. But yeah, Pinto was 2nd line center in the games he did play last year, and actually played more than Norris. DJ loves him and for good reason
