Shane Pinto being suspended 41 games for sports gambling

If I were him my pride would never allow me to take less then I was originally offered so I’d go to the KHL and dominate. I’d actually publicly s$&t on the Senators organization. That’s ridiculous they took back that 1millon dollar offer what a joke of a organization. Losing a good player if he has any pride what so ever

"What!? You seriously got caught?"

We don't even know if he was betting on hockey or not, do we?

NFL suspended guys for betting on college football while in a hotel on a road trip. Betting on the game itself wasn't an issue, but betting at what was deemed a team facility was.
I don't think the NHL has rules against betting on other sports no? So by default we know he was betting on NHL games if im not mistaken. Which i very well could be tbh

Exhibit 14.2 of the NHL’s collective-bargaining agreement states: “Gambling on any NHL Game is prohibited.” The league’s constitution allows gambling on other sports.

Yikes.

How does this even come up or get proven? Was he showing off his draftkings account with friends?

Why would the player accept it if they're such an alleged core piece?
Because the 41 game suspension doesn't start until he has a contract signed.

The longer it stalls, the more money he loses out on.

Even if he held out for a 3 million dollar deal, which he wouldn't get, he'd lose 1.5 million of it to the suspension, + all the wages he'd lose from this season

Maybe he put big money down that he wouldn’t be signed by opening night.

That doesn't necessarily mean he was betting on the NHL. Could be the same situation as the NFL guys

I mean maybe he did, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of facts yet

This has to be from when he was under contract right?
If this stems from bets he placed while an RFA then I hate this, however if he was betting on hockey while he was playing then thats a HUGE no no and he deserves the 41 games.

This is the info I was looking for...thanks.

Figured it'd be NHL related, as I don't see any reason why a player couldn't bet on another sport.

And F U NHL...this is what you get for your constant barrage of betting ads. If one of your own got caught up in it, imagine what's happening to the ordinary folk watching your product having it beaten into them at every turn.
Very well said, so tired of Mickey Mouse management of the NHL, watching all other sports soar by them, yes that's MLS that you can barely see anymore Gary.
