Shane Pinto being suspended 41 games for sports gambling

Obviously this was a guy the Sens wanted, but what if this was someone they really didn't want anymore? How do you force them to sign the guy?
No, they want him. He's a core piece. Thank goodness it was just sports betting and not something seriously nefarious.

Aww beans!

I would ask why/how someone can be so stupid, but people get caught up in gambling pretty easily. And it seems like it's spreading quickly.

I used to wonder why people would watch a football game between two random colleges. Then I realized it's most likely a gambling thing. I guess it's been around forever but it seems so easy to wager now.

"Next on ESPN, Eastern Kentucky vs Southwestern Missouri State." Like who the hell would watch that unless you are a fan of either school. I don't know what I'm saying, the whole thing is just bizarre.

Seriously, I still have no idea how that's allowed, and as far as I know he's the only active pro athlete anywhere getting paid to endorse a gambling company.

I know, but what if they didn't want him anymore or it was a lessor player that they replaced already?

Seems odd the NHL can force teams to sign a guy

FMLolol Never a dull moment in Sens land. The Ottawa Circus. This came outta nowhere...just another day at Sens land.

So he has to be signed to a contract before being able to server his suspension...

Here's an easy trade opportunity for a tanking team. Get a free, slighly used Pinto.

Exhibit 14.2 of the NHL’s collective-bargaining agreement states: “Gambling on any NHL Game is prohibited.” The league’s constitution allows gambling on other sports.
This is the info I was looking for...thanks.

Figured it'd be NHL related, as I don't see any reason why a player couldn't bet on another sport.

And F U NHL...this is what you get for your constant barrage of betting ads. If one of your own got caught up in it, imagine what's happening to the ordinary folk watching your product having it beaten into them at every turn.

Lol I don’t blame him. Living in Ottawa is boring as hell, especially if you aren’t playing. Might as well gamble.

The gambling advertising aspect is nothing. Don't bet on your own sport. It's not hard.
We don't even know if he was betting on hockey or not, do we?

NFL suspended guys for betting on college football while in a hotel on a road trip. Betting on the game itself wasn't an issue, but betting at what was deemed a team facility was.
