Shane Pinto being suspended 41 games for sports gambling

Bettman wanted the supension to be way more than that according to Lebrun.
There was a negociation between the Players Association and the NHL so that they wouldn't turn around and appeal the lenght.
Shane Pinto himself agreed to that length.

Anything related to betting on your own sport affects the integrity the sport, punishment should be as harsh as possible.

Listen, I don't agree with betting on your own profession. Conflict of interest, integrity, and it just doesn't sit right with me.

seems really odd.. Pinto isnt losing any money (though he also isnt making any!) but also the league isnt accruing any funds from the suspension!

have other suspensions in the past began before a player was contracted? or did the suspension not yet begin and i was misinformed?

Fines and forfeited salary for suspensions don't go to the league. They go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

I'd find it hard to put him ahead of Stutzle, Giroux or Tkachuk.

He's probably a solid 4th at the moment, and he's certainly responsible defensively.

Maybe the 2nd best two-way forward on the team.
