I think what the leagues as a whole want to prevent though is guys convincing their buddies on other teams to throw a game.

Hence the harsh penalties.

it doesn't specify if he was betting on hockey. If he was betting on another sport then I see no issue. Maybe with a team like the Leafs that play in the same building as the raptors, I can see an issue with Leaf players betting on raptor games.

It doesn't seem odd that they start their suspension while not under contract. Their goal isn't to end kid's careers over minor infractions

(Not saying THIS is or isn't a minor infraction without knowing more. But if a bubble player gets suspended for 15 games, no team would ever sign him just for him to be suspended and his career would be ruined)

I don't even know that I would care about players betting on other sports. What would the NHL care if Matthews knew Barnes and bet on a game? Sooner think the NBA would be more against it.

We don't know what he's actually accused of at this point, so I don't know how you don't see a problem with it.

The issue is there was there seems to be a rule that he broke and he got caught. That's really the end of the discussion. I don't get why so many people don't understand that in various issues around the sports world and real world

We're being told the suspension has to do with sports gambling.
