Shane Pinto being suspended 41 games for sports gambling

I don't even know that I would care about players betting on other sports. What would the NHL care if Matthews knew Barnes and bet on a game? Sooner think the NBA would be more against it.
I know the players LOVE their NFL pools, if Pinto is suspended for betting on another sport then IMO they should suspend over 50% of the league.

I wonder if the NHL has the same clause as NFL, can't gamble on anything at team facilities. Can do it from home, but arenas or hotels are a no go.

Why does the NHL care about gambling when all the players wager and put up money on the board inside the locker room?

Well this is interesting. Pinto trade value plummets. What a guy, totally screwed the bag here. Now if this cap hit has to stay on books maybe Sens refuse to sign him for a minute. This costing Pinto a second year of development at such a critical age, is not ideal.

This is gonna make Pinto either work his ass off,or fall off the cliff. I am unsure his life work ethic so I can't accurately try to predict what outcome he will come with, Regardless...

WTF is it with Ottawa and the oddest of issues. We really are the meme personified of the 0 days since last incidents ones. Mad jokes

We're being told the suspension has to do with sports gambling.

Hence my stance on the matter. :dunno:
You're leaving the door open to ton of shady things that could be going on other than personally throwing games. Use your imagination

maybe, this needs more transparency. 41 games is huge!!! and I for one want to know the details.

1. Don't place a wager at work, it's not that hard.
2. 41 games is way too harsh for someone who violated rules but did not bet on hockey. I think 25 games is more appropriate for something like this.

Pinto doesn't even have an NHL contract though - so he's not a member of the team.

Anyone know how the suspension works? Does he have to be under contract for the suspension to start?

lol It's like when the NHL suspended Austin Watson for alcoholism.
Meanwhile Bridgestone Arena is splattered with alcohol commercials including the Budlight Fan Zone.

the games count while he isn't under contract, so all the Sens need to do is agree to a contract and stick it in a drawer till the 41 games are up

I think what the leagues as a whole want to prevent though is guys convincing their buddies on other teams to throw a game.

Hence the harsh penalties.
But you would think that the league would have thought of that in the first place. One of the main complaints is the disintegrity sports gambling will not only have on the sport, but the games themselves.
