Gambling? Who cares? Unless he betting on his own team. For f*** sakes the NHL promote gambling all over the place. We live in an ass backwards world it’s pathetic.

It's not about what's "fair" it's about making sure the millions (billion?) of dollars that the league is making from gambling is not compromised in any way. It's kind of ridiculous but makes sense when you realize this whole league is just a big attention suck for the purpose of showing you ads / getting you to gamble / buy tickets and merchandise.
As long as he's not betting on hockey, there aren't any questions about the integrity of the game.

I don't find gambling fun, on a personal level. It's more anxiety provoking than fun for me.

It's like taking a $100 bill and lighting it on fire, claiming "entertainment"

NHL PR really is something. He’s unsigned. Give him the suspension but don’t draw negative attention. Don’t make it public. Have him only sign after game 41.

I'm not going to read through 10 pages, but doesn't that mean he plays for free this year? Fines from suspensions are after tax no? Signs a 1mil per year deal, pays roughly 500k in taxes, and pays 500k in fines?

Also, how do you retroactively apply the suspension? That's basically a fake suspension when you start counting games the player was never eligible to play.

If he's betting on Toronto Raptors games, and his buddy on the Raptors is betting on Ottawa Senators games, I'd sure have questions about the integrity of the game

I need details.

Without having to read through 10 pages, what is the rule for gambling in the NHL?

No gambling on your team? No gambling on NHL games in general?

The investigation was probably under way before the season started. Although they just reached a verdict I assume…? I dunno it’s kinda messed up. It’s like they’re factoring his time missed due to not having a contract as time served..

This is like the weirdest story. "He's supended for gambling" Gambling on what? "It's a retroactive suspension" But he doesn't even have a contract so what are you suspending?

It's basically a PR suspension. It's like the NHL suspending an injured player for a season after he got ACL surgery to miss the season.

Players shouldn’t be actively involved in gambling on the league they’re in. Period.

Other than that though, what’s the line of reasoning for not allowing bets on other sports? If they lose and go into debt, the bookie/casino will pressure them into throwing a game?
