The investigation was probably under way before the season started. Although they just reached a verdict I assume…? I dunno it’s kinda messed up. It’s like they’re factoring his time missed due to not having a contract as time served..

It still doesn't make sense.

How do you count games towards a suspension when the player never had an NHL contract? He couldn't play those games if he wanted to, it's no different than suspending an injured player retroactively.

Did he at least win?

So the league promotes the shit out of sports gambling at every opportunity, then suspends a player for sports gambling.

Makes sense.
Presumably betting on NHL games which would be a huge issue Edit: they actually didn’t say NHL games? Then I don’t get jt

Can someone explain the logic as to why NHL players are not allowed to be on other sports?
I think NFL players are allowed to, outside team facilities. Traditionally you couldn't bet at all becuase you might be indebted to a bookie/mobster, who could use that leverage to affect the outcome of games. But now with legitmate businesses hosting online gambling sites I"m not sure.

I need details.

Without having to read through 10 pages, what is the rule for gambling in the NHL?

No gambling on your team? No gambling on NHL games in general?
Friedman wrote, "wagering on any NHL game, even where legal, is “absolutely prohibited,” and will “constitute conduct that is dishonourable, prejudicial to, or against the welfare of the League or the game of hockey."

However, Pinto is not accused of gambling on an NHL game. That could be typical Bettman cageiness -- i.e. it was, say, a parlay of a different kind that did involve NHL games, or he bet on some other sport or outcome -- the WNBA or Golden Globes perhaps.

I find it a little hard to believe that if two NHL players put $100 on a Michigan football game this would happen.

He may have joined a fantasy football league.
