Nashville will trade Saros at the deadline because they are not making the playoffs. They will get something like a late 1st round pick and a prospect because this is for a rental. One of the things they will not be getting is a 24 year old top pairing dman. He doesn't need to be Chris Pronger to have tremendous value. An 80 point player who earns 4 million a year is money.

And why are we trading our Vezina caliber goalie in his prime for a random late first and a prospect?

I think he gets traded for the usual reasons that sellers have. He's on an expiring contract, they have a replacement in the pipeline, he may not resign if he wants to win. I think the price will follow historical trends of what other high end rental players get. I don't think Edmonton will put in the best offer but you never know as Nashville and Edmonton talk on the regular.

Trotz has already said he plans to re-sign Saros when he's able to and we've already had many 1sts in the last several years, plus three seconds this year and two more firsts the next.

Hate to break it to you, but he’s not on an expiring contract.

I mean, folks can waste their time imagining that and concocting meaningless trade proposals if they want. Heck, folks probably do come to you guys with McDavid or Draisatl proposals too, given Edmonton's start and their contract status. So that stuff does happen, and folks are welcome to fill their boots dreaming about it. Just you should expect it to be taken with a certain lack of engagement from the other party. This mythology about building by tanking does drive a lot of traffic here, I suppose. Go ahead and keep the dream alive if you really need to. :dunno:
Can we not just have fun and discuss hypothetical scenarios?
Even if it made sense, this is hfboards and 90% of this chatter is “mythological”
Don’t be such a grinch lol

Are McDrai also involved in this deal to help keep his numbers bloated?
Watch a game sometime. Bouchard has a howitzer of a shot and is good at getting it through. Breakout passes and puck handling also great. He will put up lots of points on any teams powerplay unless that team has no talent at all

Ah the 1.5 year expiring contract.

Bouchard is a good talent but he is primarily an offensive dman. He is Josi without the defense. Maybe due to his age he can still develop that some but that doesnt seem like the best target for Nashville which already struggles defensively and after the trade wouldnt have a perennial vezina candidate goalie to fix their mistakes. It would basically be replacing Barrie with a younger version of himself and hoping that he will figure things out defensively.

Roster players just dont make alot of sense to me overall as Lankinen isnt starting material and Askarov isnt NHL ready. So getting roster players seems like a waste of resources as the team shouldnt expect to be competitive without a starting goalie especially given the semi-weak roster with lack of star forwards to help lift the team.

None of Edmonton's prospects do much for me. Broberg has been so mishandled and requires waivers next season. I hope it works out for him but i also expect him to be on waivers sometime in the next season or two. Bourgault, Halloway, Lavoie, Etc just more of what we already have in Nashville. Then you look at Edmonton's recent draft history outside of the top 5 and.... yeah it isnt promising (especially for forwards). Id rather have the next several 1st round picks

Saros in an Oilers uniform makes them a cup contender instantly.
But what would it take to get Trotz to budge?

My proposition:

To Edmonton:
Saros and fabbro

To Nashville:
Bouchard, 2024 1st round pick, Lavoie

Oilers get one of the best goalies in the league at cost control for two seasons. Plus fabbro to semi replace Bouchard for cup run.

Preds get Bouchard to pair with josi and create maybe the best pair in the league plus two futures for rebuild with lavoie and the late first.

If oilers prefer carrier to fabbro that’s doable.

Thoughts?

If the Preds would actually do that deal, Edmonton should take it and run screaming for the hills.

Of course they would take it. Bouchard is a great young Dman and his deal ends in RFA status. Saros is a UFA in 1.5 years and the team is going nowhere. They will be selling him for picks next year, of which probably won't be nearly as good as Bouchard

Oilers won't do this trade. We aren't filling a hole by making another one. We are probably be bad trade partners unless they love Broberg and futures.

Has anyone mentioned Mrazek to Edmonton from Chicago.
Sure he's had injury issues in the past but this year he is playing lights out with an abysmal team in front of him. Happy to do Mrazek for Bouchard with some minor pluses here or there to satisfy all concerned.
