To hear Chicago's management talk, it seems like he'll be given a fair shake to make the big club next season. I don't know if that's just everyday posturing trying to hype up a kid that missed the U20's for whatever reason, but it's a big endorsement.

With a goal and 2 assists tonight DeBrincat has reached 100 points for the 3rd season in a row. With 47 goals in the 48 games he's played, he needs only 3 more in the final 15 games to reach 50 goals for the 3rd season in a row. Not bad for a munchkin.

This kid is producing at an unreal rate. I can't remember a junior player that was this productive for this long. There have been better players through, obviously, but to sustain the scoring pace he has for as long as he has is just nuts. Does anyone know the most recent player to score 50 goals in the OHL in three consecutive seasons? I can't imagine there would be many.

They're few and far between. But, like all guys his size, what he does at the junior level almost becomes irrelevant, even at the insane goal per game pace he's putting up. He's a very interesting prospect and could be a gem, but until he does it a higher level, he's just another junior star. Hopefully he'll be in the A next year which will give us a better gauge of where he's at. Unless he can't play there next year, maybe someone could clarify.

He'll be in the AHL after Erie is done

Out of everything he's done, the 50 goals as a 16 year old on McDavid's wing was probably the most impressive now that hindsight shows us that he wasn't just a passenger on that line. If he had been RW on literally anyone else's team, that season would have had the scouts buzzing. Perhaps he doesn't do it without McDavid, but now that we've seen he can..... I just don't know. Maybe he's been overlooked a little because of it. I remember Johnny Gaudreau generating much more hype as a later pick. I guess that epic WJC for Gaudreau was really the springboard. Sucks that DeBrincat didn't get the same chance in his last year of eligibility,

Only happened one other time. Dale McCourt did it back in the 70's, from '74 - '76. (53, 55, 60 goals, respectively)

He'll be 19 so I think it's either OHL or NHL for him.

Edit: I think he could play in the AHL because he'll be 20 years old before decembrer 31st.

That's good. A season (or two) in the AHL would be good for him. Plus there are already a bunch of rookies in the lineup this season who will be ahead of him (Hartman, Schmaltz, Hinostroza, Kero) along with Motte back in the AHL, and 2 or 3 potential rookies next year who would be competing against him for a roster spot (Shalunov, Hayden, Fortin).

Got my first look at him in person two weeks ago and he left me shaking my head in amazement. He was toying out there - granted the other team was ver weak- but man!!! Gotta think the Show has a place for this kid sometime over the next few years . What's his background? Was he even drafted in the O or was he an invite 3 yrs ago? Was he ripping it up in midget before his arrival or more a late bloomer. Guess I'm asking... Did anyone see this coming ?

DeBrincat just passed Patrick O'Sullivan for second most goals for an American in the OHL and is well on his was to passing Schremp!

1. Schremp
2. DeBrincat
3. O'Sullivan

What's really impressive is he's doing a lot of his scoring at even strength. You could take away all his power play scoring and he'd still be leading the OHL in goals and 4th in points.

Not bad.

Kid has borderline generational instincts around the net. Such a deft touch and understanding of where to be. I keep making the Brian Gionta comparison but he might end up even better.

That's impressive until you consider the careers of the other two players you just mentioned.

Normally I'd say hold your horses but after Marner, I won't count him out.

Only question is Marner has elite hockey sense, how is Debrincat? I know very little about him aside from his stat line and size.

He has elite sense and finishing and is an offensive driver for sure along with a little snarl.

The concerns come back to is he fast enough to not have his size hamper him? I mean hes not slow, but when you play in the NHL and you're not that much fast, its a bit harder.

Oh it's not close with the puck. Marner is waaay smarter.

But without the puck Debrincat is pretty sneaky. He's a bit stronger on his stick around the net as well.

Debrincat has 25-35 upside I'd say.

he has done nothing but produce and prove himself at every level. I think him not making team USA was the best thing for him as it was a wakeup call to "show up" in all the big games, tryouts, etc..nothing is a given and he knows that. a lot of kids ahead of him for next year so the AHL seems like a great place for him to play. Milano is learning the pro game as well and it will benefit him greatly. very happy we got him for a 2nd round pick. we needed that lottery hit with all the first round picks moved or late first round picks we have had over the years.
