Elite company :sarcasm:

How about this one instead: DeBrincat is on pace to play less than 200 career OHL games and has 312 points with 12 games remaining in his season. If he scores a point per game to get to 325 or so, here is a list that he joins of players that played less than 200 and scored more than 325 points in the OHL...

Jason Allison (202 GP) - 95 points in 2000-2001 (NHL)
Jeff O'Neill - 40 goals in 2000-2001 (NHL)
Ron Handy - 3 consecutive 100 point seasons in IHL (AHL equivalent)
Peter Sarno - 82 points in 2004-2005 (AHL)
Tony Tanti - 40 goals in 1986-87 (NHL)
Andrew Cassels - 85 points in 1992-93 (NHL)
Alex Debrincat

That's not even taking into account that some of those players may have played overage seasons, which is more math than I would like to do at the moment.

Now, as for players that scored 150 or more goals in less than 200 career OHL games:

Ray Sheppard - 52 goals in 93-94 (NHL) - 357 NHL goals
Tony Tanti - 287 NHL goals in 697 games
Alex DeBrincat

Now, career Points per Game for every player that scored 150 goals or more in the OHL:

Tony Tanti - 2.19 PPG
Wayne Groulx - 1.79 PPG
John Tavares - 1.75 PPG
Alex DeBrincat - 1.74 PPG
Stan Drulia - 1.61 PPG
Ray Sheppard - 1.56 PPG

Nobody else over 1.5 PPG.

Stats presented without comment.

After DeBrincat got "only" 1 point in Erie's 4-2 loss to Guelph yesterday, Sam Steel of WHL/Regina (Ducks prospect) vaulted over DeBrincat for the CHL scoring lead by getting 5 points (4 goals / 1 assist). At the end of the day, Steel had 111 points and DeBrincat 108.

Today, DeBrincat had 4 points in Erie's 7-3 win over Barrie.

Up to date CHL scoring race:

1. Alex DeBrincat: 53 games played, 54 goals, 58 assists = 112 points (Erie has 10 games remaining)
2. Sam Steel: 54 games played, 43 goals, 68 assists = 111 points (Regina has 8 games remaining)

This will be fun watching these two down the stretch.

It is also not taking into account, that most of them started their OHL career at 16, not 17. Allison only played 15 games as a 19-year-old season in the OHL and O'Neill was in Hartford that entire year. They are probably the most impressive players on that list, along with Tanti and Cassels. Subtract those two and the list doesn't look as good.

The little guy is on a 14 game goal scoring streak (19 goals) but I guess that really a big deal when you average over a goal a game anyways.

I'm anxiously awaiting the day people start claiming they knew all along Strome was just a plug who got pumped playing next to DeBrincat.

Has he been pressing to keep this insane scoring run he's on going? I honestly only watch the highlights but it looks like the team is stumbling defensively a little the last few games.

I'm so pissed the Oilers didn't pick him. There's no doubt in my mind this guy goes on to rip up the NHL playing on a line with Patrick Kane. He played on a line with McDavid, how do you not take him? Kudos to the Blackhawks.

He tied (Mike Ricci 1988) the record for longest OHL goal scoring streak of all time at 19 games (26 goals).

I was just checking his gamelog and hope he scores today! No goal so far, but game is far from over. These kind of accomplishments are just pure bad ass :p

I saw he didn't score today. I can't help feeling particularly responsible. That said he did tie a 20 + year old records which is nice. I've got a feeling he's gonna be good in the NHL if he gets to play with an elite playmaker. He obviously intuitively understands how to score. The 50 goals as a rookie is something I don't think a lot of current successful NHL goal scores could have hoped to accomplish even if they did play with McDavid.

Yea, I agree and the Hawks have plenty, which is why I could care less when some people say DeBrincat is a "product" of elite playmaking.... I'll take it because the Hawks have it, and if this kid can produce half of what he does in the OHL in the NHL I will be happy with it...

If DeBrincat can be a 25/25 or 30/30 player I will be happy.

As of now he certainly seems like he's the steal of the draft.

You guys have the exact same speech I had with a friend last night. I think there is NO better organization for DeBrincat than to have been drafted by the Hawks. One could argue than the Pens are similar and you wouldn't be wrong, but the Hawks have that ability to draft/sign/trade for players who, paired to one of their stars, will do wonder.

The example of Panarin would be, even though pretty damn accurate and proving my point, too easy, so I'll talk about an other one.

Think of Panik this year, who has at 26yo a stunning season, after struggling to get a regular spot with teams who had a friendlier line-up to crack (Tampa, Toronto). He almost has as much points this year in 68 games than he's had since the beginning of his career (~180 games).

12/13 to 15/16: 25 goals 22 assists for 47 pts in 181 games. (0.26ppg)
This season: 17 goals 19 assists for 36 pts in 68 games. (0.53ppg)

Hartman is also having a pretty solid season after starting the year on the bottom 6, then slowly moving up the lineup after good performances. Kero, Motte, Hinostroza, Schmaltz (a first rounder, yes, but at that age you've got to be sure the kid can handle the big league, and it looks likes he is, even though he's got some stuff that he still needs to learn in order to be more effective).

And what's the common denominator between all of the players (yes, Panarin as well, even though he signed a 2yr/12M contract earlier this season)? None of them costs the Hawks more than 900k a year!

So yep, future looks as bright as the sun on a sunny day for Alex DeBrincat.

I'm still p*ssed that the Sabres didn't take this guy in the 2nd round.. as good as Asplund may be, there's no doubt in my mind that Debrincat is going to be a STUD and all the teams that passed up on him are going to look foolish.

A lot of people said the same thing about Grimaldi. You just never know with small players - especiallu when they get passed over a bunch AFTER having a 50 goal season

I'm still confused how Grimaldi and DeBrincat are comparable :dunno:

They aren't really other than the fact that they're both under 5'8".

Only other comparable is that there was a lot of hype for both as far as second rounders go.

DeBrincat has always been dominant, even when he was passed over in the OHL draft. His high school stats are also berserk.

Grimaldi was a USDP player who had a lot of hype going into college that he only sort of reached. He never really dominated the NCAA like scouts thought he would.

There's pretty much no chance he come back to the OHL but I think its worth noting he is 49 goals behind Tavares' all time OHL goal record.

That means that #50 for 4 consecutive seasons (OHL record) would also break the OHL all time goals record. That would be a pretty historic goal.
