I'm excited to what what DeBrincat can show at the u20's this year's after last year's sort of forgettable tournament.
Yeah I know, but nobody is saying anything about him being a product of anyone since he got drafted. It's unnecessary to post something like that unless you intentionally want to stir something up in the thread. I see that a ton in threads, immature and stupid.

In his defense, it was sarcastic. Additionally, there were a lot of people saying he was more of a passenger to two elite centers. He certainly is the least respected 2 time potentially 3 time 50 goal scorer the OHL has produced in quite some time. Just think about how insane that is for anyone, much less a player his size.

A much better comparable would be Christian Thomas - 54 goals in 10-11.
I don't think anyone is disrespecting Debrincat, he is a great jr player and could turn out to be a good NHL player, but there are legitimate reasons to question his ability to become an NHL player. I like the sandpaper Debrincat plays the game with, and he possesses a great shot and nose for the net, but I am always skeptical of very small guys who lack elite skating.

he scored that once and never got close to that number again. Thomas was also soft and really really fast. I don't think DeBrincat is going to easily translate to the NHL, I think he'll likely spend a year in the AHL to work on his skating and positioning. I can't think of any 3 time 50 goal scorers in the OHL, so correct me if I'm wrong, if he does it this year he would be the first one?

Brian Gionta is a good comparison IMO. Small guy, great hands around the net, plays a gritty game. I think Debrincat is a better shooter though.
Nothing about his size gives me pause. Being a small prospect is no longer a limiting factor, I think the last 3-4 years have shown us that if nothing else.
I might be way off base in suggesting this but it seems reasonable that DeBrincat is going to have 3 straight 50 goal 100 point seasons and be around +125 for ages 16-19. Does that qualify him as an all-time great OHL player in terms of production? I assume scoring harder now than it was in the 80s so you'd have to take that into consideration.
It is a very impressive accomplishment, granted he has had amazing linemates. I quickly glanced and can't think of anyone who scored 50 3 straight times. Toffoli did it twice at 18 and 19. Tavares in his 17-year-old year actually only got 40 but had 45 as a 15 year old, 72 at 16, and 58 at 18.

Kid's a bum - he only got 1 point yesterday - goal #46 in his 47th game. He can't even average 1 goal per game. Trade him for a bag-o-pucks.

If DeBrincats plays in the OHL next year he'll have the chance to be in the top 10 all time for points.
