The Oilers D prospects is one of the only strengths. Ready NHLers is on thing but the wings are a way bigger problem. The Goaltending is a bigger issue than the D. They aren’t going to fix everything in one season though and goal scoring is a must.

The question was, what is the NYR expected turn around. To get prospects/picks to take on a bad contract while retooling is common practice in the NHL.

Well posters here are very interested in the Oilers 1st rounder this year. Many of them are ready to turn the page on Chris Kreider--keeping in mind that he's one year away from unrestricted free agency and you'd have to flip him again if you couldn't get him to sign but he legit could play and keep up no problem with McDavid. Chris has great speed and is a physical force at least when he wants to be. He's been in the high 20's in goals two of the last three years and the one year he wasn't he was out for a while with injury. Playing with McDavid and/or Draisatl I could see him doing a lot better than that. Maybe even 40.

There is also Georgiev the goaltender but I would want nothing less than a 1st for him. I'm not convinced that Shestyorkin is going to be better. Alex to me is better than Henrik right now. Alex has stolen games that the team had no business winning and he's used to being bombed.

You're probably right. 4 years is just too long. If it was 2 years i'd be all on board. 4 years may get tricky when our younger players need new contracts.

Agreed. 2 more years and I would probably consider it but that’s an immediate albatross you’re taking on.

I would want a 20 to 21 year old blue Chip prospect more than a 10 to 14 pick for Kreider.

I also think he is worth far more than just his offensive stats, so that should be taken into consideration.

Oilers fan here wondering what the Rangers projected turn around is? Looks like the Rangers May be a good trading partner with the Oilers. What’s the biggest weakness among your projects?

Oilers biggest needs
-Top 6 Left or right 20+ G winger
-Unload Lucic

Is NYR in the postion to take on Lucic and use their compliance buyout on him in two years?
Kreider for

Lucic (if he waives NMC it is off the table permanently. He can be exposed in expansion draft)
#8 in 2019
3rd in 2020 that becomes 2nd if Edmonton wins one playoff round in 2020 and 1st if Kreider resigns with Edmonton.

Who’s going to give up a 20/21 year old blue chip prospect for a year of Kreider?

Yuck. You want that cap hit for 4 years?

You can probably get a mid-1st (15-25) for Kreider alone this summer. Why take on 4 years of Lucic for, essentially, moving up 7 spots and and conditional 3rd? No thanks - that cap hit goes on for too long.

He's saying putting money into scouting and into our farm won't improve anything. I disagreed. Then he started with personal attacks.
Personal attacks aside, of course putting money into scouting and farm system us a direct way to ensure long term success. A continued influx of young talent is the best currency you can have. And that begins with good scouting to identify and then good development people to see it through.

Someone who expects him to stay? Look at what Kane and Stone got as rentals expected to re sign.

Mcdonagh got Hajek and Howden and a first for a year+. All I'm advocating is that we condense the return into one higher level prospect for a Kreider deal.

Kane wasn’t expected to resign, that’s why there was a condition of the pick. Stone’s deal was based around the extension and he’s way better than Kreider. And as much as I like them and argued it was a good return, I wouldn’t call Hajek or Howden blue chip prospects, plus Miller was also part of that deal.

I get what you’re advocating, and I’d generally agree, I just don’t see it happening for a guy who’s been injured the past two years and hasn’t ever hit 60 points

Its Gorton's job to make the right calls. He haven't made them, not even remotely.

4. We have no direction as an organization. What is this organizations identity? Clark likes to get good people, I don't mind that. Speed is mentioned at times, but by Clark.

What is our plan on the ice? How should we play? What identity should this franchise have?
Whoa, WHoa, WHOA!

What is this? The organization has no direction? Have you not seen what Gorton is doing? How can you look at his body of work and not think that he has a clear and direct vision? From player personnel right down to coaching choice?

Has he always made the right call? No, but then point out the GM that has. Look at the farm system he inherited, look at the on ice product as well as the players he targeted, how can you possibly state that the franchise is not building an identity or is not proceeding with a direction?

Whether the fans like it or not, Gorton is proceeding with his plan and vision. Sometimes with cold-hearted calculations.

Give me one of these scenarios for the draft:

Scenario 1:

2- Kappo Kakko
19- Ville Heinola
28- Ilya Nikolayev
37- Nils Hoglander
58 traded for Fox
68- Samuel Fagemo

Scenario 2:

2- Kakko
19- Bobby Brink
37- Ilya Nikolayev
49- Hoglander
58- Ryan Johnson
68- Samuel Fagemo

Basically, I'd trade Tampa's 2nd if Dallas gets to the ECF and gives us the extra 1st. Either scenario and that draft is a home run.

I would use late 1st or 2nd on Fagemo honestly, but I think he'll be around in the early 3rd for us.

I'm not sure any of those guys outside of Nikolayev will be available at those spots - I think most of them will go earlier than where you're picking them.

Maybe there is a little more to building a winner then collecting talent?
