Brooks hit then nail on the head, there is no cap in the AHL, sign a few of the top AHL UFAs to big contracts to get them there. Scouting has no cap, get more scouts, pry top scouts away from other teams with $$$.
This is silly. They have shareholders. This isn't a vanity project for Steve Ballmer, they make a profit at every level, and always have (even if it sometimes involved shady accounting tricks with the MSG Network and Cablevision). Part of that involves not doing things like torching $5m in cap dumps for 2nd round picks, or giving outsized salaries for secondary and tertiary team personnel.

No, they make profit by putting out a WINNING team. And those things can help succeed in that.

Rangers have unlimited money, lets not all of a sudden pretend like that is what they are concerned about.

Ok? So i guess i'll just repeat that putting out a WINNING team is the best way to make profit.
Again, overpaying secondary and tertiary team personnel has no direct correlation to winning afaict. LAUNCH MONEY AT IT doesn't seem to like an argument I'd get from a Crypto Guy but here we are. glgl

Getting better players for the farm and better scouts can certainly help the farm and our scouting which can lead to more success. But sure, lose the argument so start with the personal attacks.

We can get to 19 the top 2 happen and one of the bottom 2, right? Not looking good for the Canes.

Correct. If the Canes get knocked they would need the Jackets to get to the ECF in order to get the #19 pick. This is all presuming that the Knights and Stars close out their respective series.

Thanks!

C'on Hockey Gods, keep doing what you've been doing for us since the lottery! :D

You obviously love Gorton and calls out anyone second-guessing him in any way. How can you be so convinced that Gorton can build a team? He is committed to the rebuild and I like that too. But when it comes to building a team, sometimes it just seems like a lot of spagetti-throwing... What does guys like Etem, Namestnikov, Lemieux, Strome and co have in common? What is the plan with our team? Its very Sather like so far in that regard. Take the Nils Lundkvist pick. What is the plan there? How many 5'11 puck moving RHS do we need on the blue-line? If we can get Fox we will have TDA, Pionk, Fox, Lundkvist and Keane there.

so the rebuild doesn't have direction because we traded for etem (in a deal that our hands were tied) 2+ years before the rebuild started? might as well bring up how signing bobby holik doesn't fit the rebuild either since its just as relative

and are you seriously arguing that drafting nils lundqvist was pointless because gorton should have known that he might potentially acquire adam fox 2 years later, would draft joey keane 3 rounds later?

Give me one of these scenarios for the draft:

Scenario 1:

2- Kappo Kakko
19- Ville Heinola
28- Ilya Nikolayev
37- Nils Hoglander
58 traded for Fox
68- Samuel Fagemo

Scenario 2:

2- Kakko
19- Bobby Brink
37- Ilya Nikolayev
49- Hoglander
58- Ryan Johnson
68- Samuel Fagemo

Basically, I'd trade Tampa's 2nd if Dallas gets to the ECF and gives us the extra 1st. Either scenario and that draft is a home run.

I would use late 1st or 2nd on Fagemo honestly, but I think he'll be around in the early 3rd for us.

Oilers fan here wondering what the Rangers projected turn around is? Looks like the Rangers May be a good trading partner with the Oilers. What’s the biggest weakness among your projects?

Oilers biggest needs
-Top 6 Left or right 20+ G winger
-Unload Lucic

Is NYR in the postion to take on Lucic and use their compliance buyout on him in two years?

I hope the NYR go nowhere near that toxic contract. You can keep him.

Oilers biggest needs are a competent D - which its management, and fanbase apparently, keep ignoring.

The Oilers D prospects is one of the only strengths. Ready NHLers is on thing but the wings are a way bigger problem. The Goaltending is a bigger issue than the D. They aren’t going to fix everything in one season though and goal scoring is a must.

The question was, what is the NYR expected turn around. To get prospects/picks to take on a bad contract while retooling is common practice in the NHL.

Rangers need D
2 Kakko
20 Matt Robertson
30 Alex Vlasic

I would prefer to trade up and pick a Center

What's the Brooks article? I don't recall seeing/reading it. Need some context here - it doesn't look (to me) like you aren't making a valid point.

Ya, this part of the article:

The operation in Hartford requires a dramatic overhaul. There is no cap on the amount of money a team can invest in scouting, the minor league system, an analytics department or sports science. This is where the Garden can flex its financial muscle. There is no reason in the world that the Rangers should not have the model next-gen operation. No reason why the Rangers should not become the US version of the Maple Leafs, who have been trend setters since Brendan Shanahan assumed the presidency in April of 2014.

Depends who you ask. Some want Panarin this summer, others are shooting for a 2021-22 season turn around.

Kreider is the obvious piece, but I doubt the Rangers have any interest in taking on Lucic unless it's wildly in their favor and simply too good to refuse. There's no guarantee of a compliance buyout, and they have to protect him in the expansion draft unless he waives his NMC for it.

I'll send Kreider and Vesey.

Take back 2 of Manning, Benning, Kassian, Brodziak.

But I'd want the 8th overall.

Deal would need to be balanced, but you get a 3rd line winger that can pot 15, a winger for McDavid that will pot 25 and can skate with Connor.

All cap neutral.

What would you do to balance the trade?

To NYR:
- Oilers 1st
- Lucic

To Oilers:
- Kreider
- 3rd Round pick

Can't speak for everyone but you can't unload Lucic on us. I have no issues with taking on a bad contract for 2 years... we have our own that will be gone in that timeframe.

Lucic is not in the realm of possibility for us. Sorry
