Perhaps the current league Seider is in allows him to dominate physically? Was he this dominant physically in the AHL?

Yeah he was similar in the AHL as well. Guy is gonna be one of the biggest hitters and meanest dmen in the league when he cmoes up. Hes not even in his fully developed body yet, 5 years from now hes gonna be scary

Who cares about Makar or Hughes. They play for other teams I could care less how they compare. We have our own future #1 on our hands.

Seider is going to be a beast in the league and everyone laughing at Detroit after they drafted him will disappear.

Like I posted earlier, I’m seeing a lot of Rob Blake in what what fans post about Seider: big, tough, mean (when he wants to be) guy, who will put up decent points too. That’s a key piece on a winning team.

I think Blakes defensive game was overrated back then because he was big and mean but he was actually more of an offensive dman. From that era I think youll see a more modern Hatcher than Blake. Primarily a mean, defensive guy who can chip in offensively, but I think Seide ris obviously a significantly better skater (why I said modern). Hatcher played several years at a 35 point pace as a number one dman. I think Seiders offense could end up a bit better than that though.

No comparison is perfect though and theres lots of wings fans who hate that comparison but whatever. Hatcher was a stud in his day

I don’t remember people laughing at the Wings for the Seider pick. Seider was on the rise that draft year, and most thought he was a good pick.

This isn’t right. The majority of HF, including a lot of Wings fans, called the pick a huge reach.
That’s not how I remember his draft. There isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t love to have this guy.
Who did some Wing’s fans prefer the team drafted?

Not really, if the first thread is still around, you'll see that most people didn't think he was a good pick at #6. The same people who had never watched him play and only followed the draft guides.

I dont hate that comparison, but Seider definitely cant shoot the puck like Blake right now. Blake was a perennially mid-high teens goalscorer

I wouldn't say anyone was laughing at the Wings necessarily. People were surprised by the pick, which was pretty fair- it was considered a pretty big reach at #6. Hockeyprospect was the only publication I remember with Seider in the top ten, and they had him right at #10. One reporter, from Vancouver I think, mentioned that the Wings were high on Seider the morning of draft day.

Seider rose late from a projected first to a projected teens pick, I remember seeing him mocked to Montreal at #15 quite a bit, as well as maybe Ottawa, Dallas, and Colorado. By draft day he was probably projected most commonly in the 10-20 spots.

On draft day, Wings fans were pretty divided about what they wanted. A lot of folks hoping one of Turcotte or Byram fell. After that, I'd say one of Cozens/Dach/Zegras were the most popular, with shouts for Boldy, Caufield, Krebs, etc. By the time Dach, Byram, and Turcotte had gone, I think most expected one of Cozens or Zegras to the Wings.

Blake and Hatcher? I guess so, but there's another guy that played in that era that Seider compares more to than those two, I'll give you a hint, us Red Wings fans couldn't stand him, but would have loved him on our team...

I was mostly just hoping Dach would fall personally since I see a big ceiling in him and he was basically everything the Wings needed in a forward attribute wise to boot

after that I was mostly just disappointed that that didn't end up happening but Zegras is who i'd have taken out of what was left

honestly the Seider pick was so unexpected that I didn't really even know what to think about it and i'm far from alone in that sentiment among Wings fans

Adam Foote? Chris Pronger? Whoooo

Is there that much of a physical edge to him? Obviously not Pronger levels, but he's been solid but never that physical when I watch Rögle.
