One comment one this tweet says he's 3rd in hits/GP.
Yep, that was me. Here's the data:
Statistik spelare 2020/2021 - SHL.se

Hits are a notoriously imprecise stats category, but it's safe to say that both the stats and the highlight reels show that Seider hits A LOT.

BTW, the stats page on shl.se is quite good, and fun to play around with.

If you filter for the "Junior" category (not sure how that is defined exactly), it shows, unsurprisingly, that Seider is leading "Juniors" in the SHL in Hits by quite a margin. #2 on that list is... Albin Grewe. If you account for TOI, he's hitting more than Seider:

Now there isn’t a team who wouldn’t want him of course. At the time of the draft, it was almost unanimously called a bad pick.

It may have been a bad pick “unanimously among the mainstream media”, but there was a small Twitter cult arguing for him. The info was there. Yzerman and company was diligent enough to know what he knew.

Someone posted the draft day thread a couple of days ago. I was surprised at the amount of support for this pick. Not a ton, but certainly more than I remember.

Exactly. There was some support, a healthy amount of honest consternation, but comparatively little outright hostility.

There was someone in the draft day thread that called him the "German Andreas Lilja" which made me laugh out loud.

I think the reason why most wings fans weren't calling this a bad pick immediately was because it was Yzerman's first choice with the organization. Seeing what he did with Tampa Bay gives Wings fans a lot of hope for the future.

Ehh, Yzerman (And Murray's) bread and butter in Tampa were the secondary rounds. They were pretty meh, if not just plain awful in the first round. Vasi was a great pick, but mostly nothing other than him.

Just to give you a sense where I am coming from..... Vancouver fan sitting at #10, went from research for dark-horse picks to vehemently arguing Nucks should outright pick Seider at #10 after watching his WC and reading what the cult was saying.....

So. Looking back, it may have been Yzerman one-upping EDM and ANA and VAN and others who could have picked Seider. May I imagine Quinn Hughes with Seider.......

That was me. I have never been more eager to admit that I was completely wrong.

I was pissed that we didn't draft Zegras. Still a great prospect and a riser, as of now, but more than happy with Seider.

Us Wings fans can only imagine Quinn Hughes with Seider as well. :(

Hype getting out of hand. If he ends up having half the offensive game that Blake had (60 point D in the DPE), you can consider yourself lucky. Pronger? Give me a break.

I think an apt comparison baed on production/impact (not saying a perfect style comparison) is Petry the past 3 seasons.
Top 10 in hits for D, 40-45 points, looks good to the eye and even better based on analytics like zone entries/exits and breakups.

A dozen years of that level play would be a really good D-man. That said, I do think Seider has the skills to be top 10 and compete for multiple Norris trophies—as a ceiling.

That's the crazy thing, how people "over-believe" in Yzerman skills. Just without any facts from Tampa days, Wings (whining-department of) fans just believe, that the pick must be better when it's not Holland/Wright pick. :D

Exact opposite happens with Rasmussen.

But Seider lookes like a sure pick. Some lesson learned from Tampa days.
