Only one game, but surprised how invisible Kravtsov was.

Fox and Miller are as good as Leetch and Zubov.

Jones is slick.

Sykora needs time.

Thought Kakko might look more dynamic.

It's only 1 pre-season game.

And Rico Fata and Julian Gauthier are just fast and do nothing else
I didn't say Malhotra was a good player. Was surprised when he won fastest skater as a Ranger.

I’m going to list because I’m just curious if what I saw in person matched how it looked on tv.

Chytil looked better as the game was on. Not sure if it was cobwebs, but there were a few plays early on where he was trying to make the extra pass.

It’s just game one, but I thought Jones played great. Looks like he put on some muscle because he didn’t look as small as last year. Made some quick passes, and he and Schneider were great.

I suspect Hajek will get a look with Schneider, but Jones’ game was head and shoulders above Hajek’s tonight.

Garand played okay. Kind of shaky and looked like a lot of extra movement, but I think he’s coming along. I think he’ll need a good bit of time, though.

I liked the Rydahl signing and he looked good in that time tonight. Even the nice breakaway opportunity.

Othmann was my player of the game. Visible. Nice shot. Came back to make some plays on defense.

Bobby T could be a good agitator. Liked his game, too.

Kravtsov has the offensive ability. He just really needs to round out his game and make better reads.
i think Jones still looks small but he looks really quick and is good with puck, and he was all over the ice. Like him a lot.

So did the Rangers used to have skills competitions? Canucks have always had it and I went to them as a kid, as long as I’ve been a Ranger fan I don’t recall them ever having skills competitions. When/why did we stop? I wish we had them

Jones played like that all last season in Hartford. If he moves the puck that quickly and accurately throughout the preseason, it would be nuts not to make him the 5-6D with Schneider. It also removes Trouba from PP2 and that ice time can be saved for 5v5 in the later stages.

I wouldn’t worry about Kravtsov but the younger guys keep outplaying him. I’m starting the think the 3rd line wing is his regardless of what happens this preseason, but Drury and Gallant will kick him down to Hartford if there are signs of ineffectiveness.

I been to one before, a long time ago during the Fleury years. iirc they did fastest skater and hardest shot and maybe something else. They also had a "celebrity" and alumni game with the usual's, Boomer, Chris Jericho, I just recall one of the guys from Bare Naked Ladies was by far the best celebrity skater.

I was at the game tonight and thought Kakko, Vesey (lol), Chytil, and Jones were the standouts of the players with something to prove.

I felt Krav was kind of just there. I’ve consistently been unimpressed with him for about a year now and tonight didn’t do anything to sway that opinion.

K’Andre looked like a man amongst boys out there. The only way the other team can stop him when he’s moving is by accident.

Completely tooled Romanov here. I don't know wtf Romanov is doing half of the time he's trying to defend the rush.

The NHL/CHL agreement that keeps 19 year olds from the AHL needs to go. At the very least for 1st round NHL picks. I understand the CHL is a business and losing some of their best players hurts those leagues both on and off the ice, but IMO it's time for a change.
Yeah. I think it’s bad for the player. At least in this case.

He should not be nervous. He played 20 games in the NHL before. Not like he is new to this. Tired of excuses for another 1st round bust
He seems to have a different demeanor this time around. You can even tell by his interviews in training camp so far that something is different with him. I'm hoping he can put things together.

If Kravtsov makes the team it will be as the right winger for Trocheck and Panarin. That’s his path. A lot of the best reporters said that’s been the best line in camp, and that Panarin has taking Kravtsov under his wing, and it’s been very position. Then over the weekend it’s coming out that Gallant is trying Lafreniere with those guys instead and Kravtsov is playing with completely new line mates today. As I said earlier it’s a strange move and I wouldn’t have done it. Kravtsov needs to find his footing and his confidence, and I simply don’t think its was the right decision for him to take him away from the two guys that he had spent the entirety of camp with, and looked very strong with, before yesterday.

Reading between the lines, I think this is more of a Blais problem because he was penciled in for the first line, he looked bad/not ready, and Gallant probably wanted to re-balance things. Kid line broken up again as a result everyone is kind of a weird spot. There is not a ton of evidence that Gallant likes Lafreniere with Zibanejad and Kreider, so Kakko went there today. I think Kakko is a very weird fit with those guys because he can’t skate with them and he isn’t going to have the puck on his stick. Maybe they are hoping they can create shots on his behalf but it remains to be seen if that’s effective. A lot of positives today but need to figure the right combinations out because balance is an issue and I don’t think any of their right wingers complement any of their established duos particularly well. But yeah will see how that works out.

Can Othmann be loaned to a European league? Maybe he could play the season in Switzerland. I have a feeling he would still have to wait for Flint’s season to end before coming back to the Rangers or Hartford, eh?

krav is just bored out of his tree in preseason hockey.

honestly thought he was fine, didnt do much but wasnt terrible out there, wish he'd taken a shot on that partial break and had some pucks bounce the wrong way on him on the wall but he was going to those areas and not shying away from contact. dont think chytil is the right fit for him, give him some time and a few games on a line that has some more structure to it.

kandre looked incredible. its one preseason game so dont want to get carried away, but hot damn was he making it look easy out there. dominant any time he wanted to be.

hajek/jones both played a solid game. thought braden really showed a bit more confidence getting involved up ice and carrying pucks. going to be some hiccups now and then as he takes those steps but i really liked what i saw there in terms of the jump he can make.

igor made it look incredibly easy. isles had some good looks, esp early, but honestly didnt feel like any ever had a chance of going in the way igor handled them

really liked the piss and vinegar othmann, sykora, and trivigno played with. 3 different places in development and different games, but good to see that type in the pipeline. othmann really sticks his nose in, gives and takes, has some serious hockey iq. could stand to add a step but he'll be a player.

kakko made some plays that certainly dont dampen any hopes of a breakthrough in production.

chytil also very much surprised me. hes still pretty limited in his ability to create moving pucks up ice and carrying them knowing how to create chances. but...he looked night and day from any other game ive ever seen him play in his decisiveness. he was going to the walls and in traffic with physicality and purpose, he was using his speed and strength, and in the o zone he knows how to find space. i dont see him ever being a solid 2c, but this was the first time i can say he showed me enough all around game to make me think he can potentially add real value in a 3c role.

also really like rydahl sp? big, very fast, got involved physically, and that swipe of barzals drop pass was a fantastic read / execution. could see him in the lineup at some point this year.

overall nothing good or bad tonight can set expectations. but it was awesome watching hockey again, and quite frankly its hard not to at least get a little excited about what this team can be at full strength given what we saw from quite a few guys tonight.

as a team one of the real highlights for me was seeing us generate real chances from possession in the zone. i called it out a lot last year that we lacked the ability to generate good shots in the zone from danger areas...if the rush was taken away we more or less lived or died by the pp. granted this was preseason and mixed lineups, but i thought there were a lot of looks we manufactured that got pucks to guys open in the slot. if that can continue it could really set us up for a big year

Too many people putting too much emphasis on 1 pre-season game. I have read because some guys had a rough game they could be a bust or have a bad year. Nonsense. That being said I thought the team played well and most guys looked pretty good. Miller, Jones, Vesey, Chytil, Rhydal impressed me. Schneider and Kravs did not have good games. Only 1 game though. Lets not overreact.

That is true, I remember Krav saying he thought it was weird that he was expected to cheer when he scored in the preseason because it doesn’t mean anything lol. He’s someone who plays much better the higher the steaks (he looked way better in the NHL than AHL, and looks way better in the KHL playoffs than regular season)

I will just add that the hate for kravtsov is unwarranted. And it’s from the same people who were claiming Kakko was a bust, and laf is a bust

People on this board just want kids to come out and put up 100 points

He wasn’t great but he wasn’t garbage either. It was the first preseason game of the year

You know you had a good game when your PK unit has no problems standing or moving.

I give this game 4.5 Michelletti's out of a possible 5.

I don’t think anyone was an outright negative today, and it’s certainly not fair to judge Kravtsov until we see him with the players he has been with all camp. All these keyboard warriors are still butt hurt about last year and want to see him fail anyway.
