My unimportant takeaways.

- Kakko's shot does look better.
- Everybody is pulling for Hajek until he steps on the ice...
- The best/one of the best stick handler on our team controlled the puck like a grenade all game.
- Jones is shifty and prone to some bad turnovers but when he makes the play it looks beautiful.
- Schneider played the way he ended the post season. (not very good)
- Othmann looks faster then when we drafted him, but he skating is still very sloppy and choppy. That was an area I was looking for him to improve on. It seems he improved on speed. He's going to be a skilled pest.
- Carpenter is useless for what we're trying to build.
- Chytil still forgets to look up and will continue getting rocked this season.
- I couldn't tell if we have 5 Miller's on the Ice or if he was just teleporting everywhere.

I remember distinctly being mocked for saying he has the potential to be the best shutdown defender and Hedman type of potential... maybe not in that thread but from his rookie season when everyone was on the hate bandwagon.

I've repeated it for a while... his potential is astronomical... he has tools that I have never seen on NHL ice.
I'm right there with you. I remember reading a ton about him leading up to the draft and the physical tools and the fact he'd only been playing defense for like 2 seasons at that point made it seem like he was worth taking a chance on because we had 3 first round picks that year. The ceiling is sky high for him, I always saw him having Hedman-light potential, with the skating and size to be that rover type who can shut you down on one end and then make stuff happen on the other.

When we traded up to take him I was so thrilled that they actually took one of the guys I was hoping they would and then I hopped on HF and see tons of people complaining about giving up "too much" to trade up for him and we should've traded up for Dominik Bokk or Bode Wilde instead, saying if everything works out that Miller has Brady Skjei upside at best and stuff like that. Ultimately I fall on the side that if you have the draft capital and you love a player, then use that capital to trade up and get the player you love. The whole point in selling things off and acquiring assets was not to make every single draft choice, but to use those assets to be able to get players you want and in this case to be able to leapfrog teams who would've taken him and make sure you get him. The did the same thing with Schneider.

It's just funny looking back on that thread now with Miller realizing his potential and looking like he's going to exceed most expectations.

Krav? lol

Wonder if they play Kravtsov again tonight? Sort of hoping they give him plenty of time in the pre-season.

Agree with most of what was posted. Some random thoughts.

Kakko looked comfortable and confident out there. I like the idea of him up top instead of Sammy Blais. Kid line is fun, but Kakko earned a shot up there. Let him get a real chance with the big line.

Miller looked really good up there. I hope he continues to develop. Becoming one of my fav players on the club. Hope he finds a bit of a mean streak.

Trevigno is fun to watch. I didn't have him penciled in. Still don't, There's just too many NHL caliber guys in front of him, but he was entertaining and he's got bite to his game.

Othmann after taking a big hit managed to have himself a very good game. I like how he plays in the dirty areas. He looked big out there too, even though he cant even legally buy a beer yet. Sort of reminded me of Corey Perry.

Garand looked out of place to me. He's got plenty of time to develop though.

Ive been a Hajek supporter. Pulling for the guy, but i don't he looked very comfortable. I also think he is easy to play against. That is somethnig that this team doesn't want to be.

Jones has more bark and bite to his game then Hajek. He is more confident then Hajek. Leaning toward him over Hajek but its only 1 preseason game. Lets see where they end up.

Somebody please cut Zbads hair!

If they go with Group 2, he's not on the list. So I guess we'll have to wait and see but I don't expect him to be playing tonight, especially back-to-back.

My One Pre Season Game Down, Entire Year To Go, Proclamations:
Yeah, listen, I like to bust EdJo's cajones too, but Krav wasn't bad last night even though you could tell his heart was in his throat. He was f***ing terrified. Not of the competition but of the situation. If it was something he was able to get out of his system I think he will be a productive top 9 or top 6 forward this season. I think McRanger is on with this: he is behind in his development as an NHLer because of the path he took. BUT...not everyone matures mentally and emotionally at the same rate and I think it's obvious Krav is a late bloomer in this regard and probably should not have come over as early as he did. Even though the KHL isn't the best way to get ready for the NHl, I think he would have been better off just staying there till this year. Hoping for the best for him, he does seem like a good kid and he could be a hell of an NHL hockey player.
Othmann is a killer. Plain and simple. Needs a year or two to physically grow into what he needs to be to play his game against the best on the planet, but he's the kind of kid you win with.
Miller. Holy f***. The only question is will our best D man for the next 8 years be him or Fox? They will likely give NYR the best 1-2 in the entire NHL for that time period. HE IS STILL ONLY 22.
Kakko looks like what we all wanted him to be when he was drafted. I have no worries about him this year.
Chytil is a horse now, not a foal. This is his year, just like Kakko's. Top shelf 3C at worst.
Jones, prone to some mistakes, takes too many hits for his own good, but when he clicks it's a thing of beauty. He and Hajek will be more than sufficient as our 6/7 going into the season and we can see what happens.
Rydahl over Carpenter all day. Faster, smarter, stronger, more physical. Gallant may go with the known to start the season, but Rydahl supplants him by Dec.
Trivigno. Love this kid, so who knows? But there's a reason there arent many players his size in this league.
Schneider, not his best game, not awful. Good moments outnumbered the sketchy ones. JUST turned 21, he's going to be a solid NHL DMan for a decade.
I don't see Kreider ever significantly slowing down. Dude is a freak. No rust. Plays into his 40's if he feels like it. I think he's a bargain when the cap goes up.
I think that's about it. Hahaha. Fire away!
Edit: Oh Sykora. Didn't look lost, was not intimidated in the least. I like his game. Have hopes for him.

Captain of the Rookie camp team, intermission interview yesterday, playing PP1 over Trouba. I think he's a lock. Hajek will be the 7th defenseman and there could be some rotation based on matchups
Agreed.

At this point I would be really disappointed if Jones didn't make the opening night roster.
he will get his shot,
but if its not Opening night due, to the right waiver claim and Hajek,
i am fine with him ramping up for a couple months in AHL

easy to forget, he was NCAA sophomore just 18 months ago

If he continues to outplay Hajek as he did last night I would have a problem with this because it sends the wrong message.

How would you feel if you were cut for the second year in a row when you clearly deserved a spot? Nils was not good at camp last year and only made it because they had already committed money and term for his mentor.
