If it’s anyone else maybe you could read into it but the fact that it’s Kreider doing it you know it’s 100% him busting Kravy’s balls and they were probably joking about it right after. Shit like this happens between teammates on every team with zero significance or intent at every level, just joking. I think sometimes we forget that jsut because they’re professionals we read into things but at the end of the day they’re just hockey kids who have been hockey kids their whole lives.
They hugged when Kravtsov went off the ice. Kreids is a playful wise guy.

Kravtsov would have to play the entire preseason like that to not make the roster, but my big concern with him is how behind in his development he looks compared to Kakko & Chytil. Like it or not they are all being graded on the same curve and you can tell after 1 preseason game that Kakko, Chytil (and Miller) look like confident and strong NHL players. Kravtsov looked weak and hesitant. I hope to see him in a game with Panarin soon, hopefully that will help him get it together.

This is the first game of their careers where Kakko & Chytil looked better than Kravtsov lol
In his 20 NHL games he looked FAR better than Kakko, Laf & Chytil. Go back and read the GDT’s if you don’t believe me. “Im getting chills, I haven’t seen a rookie like this since Kovalev” “I wish Kakko/Laf had confidence like this” “why can’t our 1st & 2nd overall picks play like this?”

Yeah, according to you. Kravtsov hasnt played an NHL regular season game since April of 2021. I hope he works out because it would benefit the team, but playing pond hockey in the KHL while the rest of the players in his age group went to the ECF last year has put him a step behind.

Read the GDT’s, he had more 1st star votes than Kakko, Laf & Chytil combined. But I agree it was not his best game, it is only uphill from here

the kind of confidence a deep playoff run gave our players cannot be overstated. They all know how good they are. That will rub off on Kravy eventually but you can see compared to our other young guys he doesn't have that.

Jones looks real good with the puck, can't deny that. He'll make some mistakes from being a bit overaggressive but you can live with that.
Last year I think it was really his game without the puck that led to him not being a regular. He was still learning how to be a small defenseman at this high level, and he's always going to have to fight against the idea that if he has to spend any amount of time defending in his own zone without the puck then things are going to go south on him quickly. Is that true or fair? Dunno, but I see that as what the real hurdle for him will be. If he can show the coaches "yeah I can play positionaly sound defensive hockey and break the puck out quickly when I get a chance" then that'll go a long ways
As he gets older he can gain pounds and muscle. He's quick in tight spaces so I think he will be OK avoiding the big hits. I really like his skill set and I feel like there's big potential for him. His basic skills are on par with Fox, he's a better skater too. He's just not as smart as Fox and that's really what separates Fox from most players, he out thinks them and reads the play before most. But I think Jones can be a big contributor. Agree if he's good positionally he will be good enough in the defensive zone. I'd love for them to put Jones and Trouba together. Miller has outgrown the need for a veteran he could move up with Fox. Let Trouba do for Jones what he did for Miller. Lindgren can help Schneider settle in.

Chytil, Kakko, and Miller have way more NHL experience. The playoffs did a lot for their mental growth, too.

Kravtsov looks like a kid not wanting to mess up and make the team. Maybe playing with Panarin will give him confidence.

Chytil - Kakko look like a good pair. Big kids, hard to move off the puck. Chytil improved defensively, too, it's noticeable.

I find your Kravtsov schtick endearing but this could not be more meaningless
It does mean something man, you're saying because Krav looked bad in one preseason game that it means he's worse than them. I'm saying this the first game that Krav looked worse than them. He looked way better than them in the actual NHL regular season, which was pretty unanimously agreed upon if you read those GDT's. And he looked way better than them and outscored them (and all our stars) in previous preseasons.

Chytil was all around the puck last night. He looked like the player he was in the playoffs. Also looked bigger on the ice and the bench. He's going to be a very important player for us going forward. Homegrown Ranger who has been through a lot here and come out better for it. Funny that he was linemates with Vesey again after playing with him 4 years ago.

I didnt say he was worse than them, but hes behind in his development. Not sure how thats an incorrect take considering they have far more NHL experience

Actually think most of the comments in this thread are pretty sound. Miller was a beast. Jones over Hajek... and yes, I wouldn't mind him taking some PP2 time from Trouba. Vesey should stick based not just on this game but prior years' performance... scoring with NYR, defending with NJD. Carpenter was a ghost and Rydahl somewhat better... but I'm not real content with either as 4C based on this one look. Kravtsov wasn't terrible, but knowing he needs to be noticeable in this camp, he failed last night. Like others are saying, likely some squeezing the stick too hard... but he better get over it fast. If he looks like this mid-November, that's it. Othmann here next year for sure. Sykora was an interesting mess, but he's only 18... a couple years down the road may be an important piece. I guess my only hot take would be a guy no one's discussed here (I missed the GDT)... Garand. Looked like every shot was a hand grenade... seemed nervous and really uncontrolled. Presumably he was really good in the WJC, which I saw none of... but while he only coughed up one last night, it looked like a better team could have massacred him.

Garand will be fine, I've watched a decent chunk of him. I would imagine even for preseason, coming in after the dominant vezina winner and being in MSG (or any NHL arena for that matter) probably gave him some nerves. (especially with Igor making things look easy in the first half lol)

He still managed to make some good saves through all that.

I believe it was Joe mentioning that Garand said he hasn't played with pro players yet? (something to that effect, I never heard all of it) Like, he literally just won gold in late August. He'll be fine.

He knows how it works now, he outscored all our stars in 2019 and got cut. The Rangers are not a meritocracy. He will make the team regardless, he can’t be sent down without waivers. Obviously the guys who are a long shot to make the team are gonna be playing balls to the wall.

But you want my honest analysis of his game? First of all people are mostly just trolling me, he played okay. (People have admitted to this, even Uninstaaled who loves to troll me more than anybody lol)

I think he was nervous about the reception he’d get at MSG and was almost expecting to get booed or something. He was gripping his stick too tight as you saw when he got that break and passed it to the goalie. He was also trying to get into the good graces too much, he was passing too much even when the better option is to shoot. Saw this when they had that zone entry where the puck carrier passed it to Krav and Krav one touched it back to him. And on the powerplay when Krav forced 2 passes that got deflected off skates instead of shooting. He didn’t want to seem selfish, was trying too hard to get in the good graces I think. But this isn’t his game and I’m not concerned at all. He’s got that idgaf Kovalev attitude which he will return to.

Almost the whole game his line was paired with the Hajek pairing who screwed up over and over. I defend Hajek because I think he’s overhated due to the McDonagh trade but he was a trainwreck last night.

I didn’t think the Vesey-Chytil-Krav line was very good even though some say they were our best line, Vesey and Chytil are both puck hogs and didn’t allow Krav to get enough touches. Vesey is working his ass off to try and save his NHL career on a PTO, there was one play where Krav was open in the slot and Vesey instead tried shooting from an impossible angle. Chytil is always horse blinders on and not a good distributor.

Krav did block a shot and lead a rush immediately after, poked away a few pucks from Isles players wi th his long reach including one that was right in the slot by our net. Made a crazy backhand no look chip pass to Chytil while being hit along the boards that sent Chytil in for a great chance when he got hooked.

Not a terrible first game, but for Krav standards not good enough. I expect a very different Krav going forward.

I also don’t think these lines are permanent, if you watch the Gallant interviews he said these are not the real lines and that he already has his idea of the real lines (which I’m guessing are what we saw in camp). I think Krav will be with Panarin, and that will unlock his greatness
More of this analysis and honesty and less of the stupid schtick and a person could take your opinions more seriously. It’s a long season that other bs gets tiring.

Notes:

-Kudos to the kids and newcomers. Played a solid north south game.
-Othmann looks really good. Such a shame he can’t get some time in the AHL or another pro league.
-Trivigno is interesting. The grit might allow him to carve out a role if he develops.
-Sykora played well but needs some time.
-Rydahl and Vesey really stood out. Looking forward to see if they can stick, but won’t be easy with Gallant favy Dryden Hunt.
-Not great stuff from Kravtsov. Flubbed what should have been a pass for a scoring chance. He had some other weak attempts in the neutral zone. You want more.
-really like Zac Jones. Offensively and in transition he’s excellent. But he shows his size, or lack thereof, on D, and needs to figure out ala Adam Fox how to out think the bigger guys.
-KAM is MVP

I’ll tell you, if you’re ever in the mood for a good laugh you could go back and read the thread from when we first drafted him. There are quite a few doozies in it.
I remember distinctly being mocked for saying he has the potential to be the best shutdown defender and Hedman type of potential... maybe not in that thread but from his rookie season when everyone was on the hate bandwagon.

I've repeated it for a while... his potential is astronomical... he has tools that I have never seen on NHL ice.

My big Zac Jones takeaway is that he’d have a guaranteed spot on the team if he were a few inches taller and weighed more.

I think he’s been good every single time he’s seen NHL action.

Yeah the ol' Nils Lundkvist excuse actually applies to Jones.

I have zero doubt that he'll outplay the rest of his competition for that spot. Whether or not it's enough is another story (it wasn't last year.)
