I think the game reinforces Deans strategy. Build from the back end out with strength up the middle.

US lacks the elite centers and dmen if you compare them to canada.

Hard to match Crosby, toews, Bergeron/duchene/Tavares (I know he is hurt). With backes pavelski and kesler and stasny.

the US has zero elite centers in the lineup.

Now match the defense pairs and it's heavily lopsided towards Canada again. Mcd and Sutter are the only ones to make Canada roster. Subban didn't make it out of the press box (except 1 game).

Yes chemistry and team play will factor in some games along with the superior goaltending (I would take quick and miller over luongo or price), but the odds will always favor canada. It's just a shame they met in the semis and not the finals.

With that though I think the American future on the back end looks pretty bright with Jones, Trouba, fowler, and maybe tinordi.

I don't wanna call it an upset but I honestly thought USA was going to win today

It felt like USA's swagger wasn't there. Usually they'd use their speed vs their opponents but Canada pretty much had control throughout the game.

Quick was amazing though. So proud of him.

USA had a chance to win only if Canada played like it did in the
previous games , against the USA they finally played like a team.

If Canada plays like they did today then Sweden is getting the silver. :sarcasm:

If Canada loses the Gold it will be an upset no doubt. I know Sweden is good but they are missing what 4 of their top centers and in all honestly didn't have as hard of a road to the finals as Canada did. I mean c'mon people you can have aaaany Canadien goalie and they would still win. Again just look at that defense sheeeeesh unreal!

Pretty much, Sweden will be underdogs that's for sure. Canada's D is unreal and Sweden have even worse depth at C in their lineup than USA. Still, not counting us out yet. Lundqvist has been awesome and Karlsson is a true difference maker on the power play. Hold the fort defensively and make them pay on the PP.

Win or lose I really didn't expect this team to make the finals so I'm happy. I'd be elated with a gold though... and it's always fun to see Canada lose and the subsequent questioning of everything they know about hockey that usually follows :)

Great point. Jones and trouba replacing orpik (the goat) Martin would be exciting especially with 4 years of NHL experience. I hate to say it but fowler was solid as well.

Anyone know of Any potential elite centers coming up? I'm not a fan of Gally or stepan leading the charge.

Kopitar should follow in Jim Fox's footsteps.

I hope Canada loses the gold medal game. Just because of Carter and Doughty, F em. They need to get there hearts broken or traded for Suter and Parise.

Jack Eichel maybe? Really young though.

We would be getting ripped off.
Doughty is way better then sutter and carter is a better all around player with a lower cap hit then parise.

Watching the game this morning it reminded me so much of Canada in '98 as it showed once again, if you mail in an effort against the Fins in the Bronze Medal game they will beat you. I've got a ton of respect for Finnish Hockey in how they come to play and just don't quit. Selanne is a legend.

USA Hockey will rebound. They're too good not to. Most of Canada still views the USA as their biggest rival and threat. Which is why we become dicks when we win and cry babies when we lose to you guys.

A bit disappointed to read people completely dismissing Price's effort in the game yesterday. Sure Quick was busier and played awesome but Price was sharp and poised and turned away some good chances himself. He might not have stolen his shutout but he definitely earned it. Have some perspective people, they're both world class goaltenders.

I will be a happy Kings fan if this is the last time we see NHL players at the games.

I don't know how I personally feel about this one way or the other really, but I would be flabbergasted if the players went along with it.

I guess I could see Canadians/Americans just begrudgingly sticking with their NHL teams, but let's not forget how big a deal it is to the individuals to don their country's jersey, especially around the world. The Russians like Ovechkin were fully ready to skip town and play in the Olympics whether the NHL was cool with it or not.

I expect it to always be a divisive, contentious issue between owners and players as well as fans.

They are paid millions of dollars to perform for NHL teams.

I doubt Canadians/USA players would rock the boat with their livelihood on the line.

Russian's don't give a sh#$t cause they have the KHL.

I think people put too much stock into this national pride stuff.

I think these NHL players care way more about their Six figure salaries.

How many USA players really played their guts out ? Maybe a handful ?

Now how many looked like they just didn't want to get hurt ?

A good portion if you ask me. Same goes for Canada.
