Olympics Discussion Thread II

Would have liked to see him higher but hard to argue against Price with his shutout time on ice, Selanne as he won MVP, and Lundquist who carried Sweden. Karlsson was great but mostly on the PP. So I would have given the edge to Doughty there.

i really disagree with people who think Price was a top player in the olympics. This is where I think people look at stats too blindly. I believe that you can get a shutout and still be outplayed by an opposing goaltender who let goals in. In the Canada USA game, I think Quick completely outplayed Price. If the goalies switched teams, that score would not be 1-0, being privy to superb defense should not play in how good you were.

This is exactly like Quick getting the Conn Smythe. I love quickie, but there's no way he deserved that conn smythe. The Kings defense was unbelievable that run and Quick was never really challenged. Record breaking stats does not tell the whole story, it's just one viewpoint on a complex topic.

I seem to recall members and according to some interviews in the Stanley Cup 2012 Blu-Ray, Quick absolutely saved them Pre-Sutter and sometimes Post-Sutter. :dunno: Maybe it's just my hearing.

I agree Price was outplayed that game, he was also outplayed in the Latvia game. that does not mean he played bad there. The tournament as a whole he was the best goalie out there. yes he had the best D in front of him but he still had to make key stops when needed.
 
With Brown's limited ice time, it just did not let him get into the groove of the game and gel with his linemates.
 
I just realized, this clown won a medal. Disgusting. WTGUSA!!!
