Damn it. With that win, Canada finishes ahead of us in the gold count 10 to 9. Oh well, at least we know Canada sucks in the summer Olympics and their soccer team never makes the World Cup.

Happy for Carter and Doughty, glad they both "redeemed" themselves in the eyes of Canadians and increased their stock. Still sucks that we have to listen to all the other stuff for four more years though :P Hopefully Team USA is overhauled in the next four years.

PK Suban also got a Gold so unfortunately we'll probably still hear PK is better then Doughty. :handclap:

Oof... Now I know what it must have felt like to play against the Kings in the 2012 playoffs. Just a defensive clinic. Probably the best I've ever seen in that area.

Congrats Canada.

It bodes well that a defensive minded team that didn't score a ton of goals overall this tournament was able to pull it off and gel as the games got more important. I'm hoping the Kings scorers get going a little bit and we can mirror what Canada did in these Olympics.

Ha. You guys can poke fun at Price all you want but the guy did his job tremendously well and proved he's a world class goaltender. It was so nice having a goaltender this year that I felt confident he wasn't going to make things more difficult than they had to be. That said, it certainly doesn't mean Quick isn't still the man!

Price is a freaking terrific goalie but this tournament did pretty much nothing to prove that. No offense.

Congrats to Carter, Doughty, and the rest of team Canada. That might be the best defense I've ever seen play. Completely neutralized the worlds all-star teams.

Good for Doughty and Carter, hate the rest of them.

In all honesty, I really didn't enjoy these Olympics that much. As a whole. I usually really like seeing all the different sports, but I think these were just so ehh. Maybe it was because of all the whining. I feel like they should rename these the Crybaby Olympics with the constant *****ing about everything. Plus, when you compare the hockey tournament with 2010's, this one just didn't pack the same punch.

Pretty disappointing. Ready to watch the NHL again.

This

Little bit of This But also didn't like the 12 hour time difference, what are you gonna do though

A lot of This!

Love it, The Backstrom thing and the constant whininig of the Russians, the Tavares injury, has pretty much sealed the fate of the NHL in the Games.

No way the owners and GM's vote to send their Multi Million dollar assets back in four years time.

Hopefully this is the end of the NHL involvement in the Games.

This had to be, the most boring Games in the last two decades.

We hear this every time, though. I know you've made your stance abundantly clear, but I don't think it's as set-in-stone as you say.

"In an email, Jacobs wrote, “I know the importance of competing in the Olympics to many of our players — they are our partners and if it is important to them it should be important to us.â€

Jacobs listed four main areas of concerns for the owners: shutting the league down for more than two weeks and its effect on fans and corporate partners; the risk of injury to the top players; mental and physical fatigue among those players; and the compressed schedule and “the challenges it creates for the buildings.â€

He concluded, “While these issues exist, balancing them with all of the good that comes with our participation in the Games is a difficult task — one that we will have to continue to explore with our partners over the coming years.â€"

It's not set in stone of course.

But I think the writing is on the wall, the Owners are not happy that the Olympic games generate Billions of dollars of revenue, and they don't see a single penny of it for their franchise, While risking their best assets.

That is finally not sitting well with owners, and they are letting Bettman know.

Now you could argue that exposure does benefit the NHL and the owners.

But the owners accountants will not see it that way.

The game doesn't need exposure in Canada so them winning does nothing for the NHL.

The US needs to win this thing for it to benefit the owners and the league; it's just not worth shutting everything down for the slight chance something amazing will happen that will bring in American dollars.

Oshie was hot for a couple of days but that has pretty much been forgotten at this point. This will go down like Turin as far as US fans go. Remember Turin? Ever find yourself thinking about that tournament? Please.

The World Cup is the pinnacle of the soccer world: not the Olympics. Reintroduce the World Cup and make that tournament the tournament to win. Hold it in late August/early September and start the season a tad later every four years. If there are any injuries, at least it is before the season starts so you know what you are going in with. Then make sure that NBC televises this thing and really promotes it.

You don't win friends with salad and you don't win new hockey fans with a boring tournament like the one we just watched.

the only owner i've seen/read publicly is Snider saying he is against it. i'm sure there are others, but he is the only one i've seen on the record.

the Olympics does and provides more exposure and branding for the NHL than the Winter Classic and Stadium series combined. it exposes non-traditional fans to hockey and the players. hockey fans in other countries are exposed to the NHL and players from other countries. the Olympics further exposes NHL fans in NA to other players that don't play for their home team.

all of this creates revenue opportunities to the NHL, the teams and the owners that produce 100%. not a 'piece of the pie' from the IOC or IIHF. the random, non-traditional fan on a whim wants a team jersey from a guy, or attend an NHL game to go check out it. that is what the NHL and the owners want, need and will profit in the long run from the Olympics.

to shut it down and not participate means the league and the games remain status quo. little to no expansion of the fan base from its current population.

To me, it is like an expensive advertising campaign that doesn't bring back what you spend when you factor in shutting down the league and the injury risk.

I don't think a Swede or a Finn is going to start watching the NHL--if they don't already--because of how Canada or someone else played. I assume they know their players already playing over in the NHL.

The market that needs to be expanded further is the American market as the majority of teams are in the US yet it lags behind other sports. This Olympics, in the end, has done nothing to further that because any momentum from the Russia game was squandered this week.

There is very little to gain, in my opinion, from sending NHL'ers to play in a tournament in the middle of the season where the best scenario for a live, PST start is 9 AM. The time difference is killer. Playing on larger ice which does not benefit the game of hockey is not helping either.

You can thank the entire speed skating team for that. 1 team medal for the entire group that went there.

Oh great, a Doughty vs Karlsson thread on the main boards.

I'd take Doughty, but it's not a ridiculous comparison. People on our board seem to have a difficult time appreciating what an amazing talent Karlsson is, he is the best offensive d-man in the game. I wonder what some people would think of Leetch or Coffey if we could go back in time. Karlsson and Doughty are both great players.

Keep your voice down, PK Subban worshipers might hear you.
