Keep your voice down, PK Subban worshipers might hear you.

I like Subban too, but Karlsson is more dynamic with his ability to rush the puck up the ice, where Subban is more his ability to shoot the puck, much like Rob Blake. I think there are a few players who can match Subban's abilities but no one quite like Karlsson right now when it comes to offense.

I'd take Doughty, but it's not a ridiculous comparison. People on our board seem to have a difficult time appreciating what an amazing talent Karlsson is, he is the best offensive d-man in the game. I wonder what some people would think of Leetch or Coffey if we could go back in time. Karlsson and Doughty are both great players.

Phil Housely vs. Ray Bourque.

If I'm trying to win the Cup, I'm taking Bourque, 10 times out of 10.

Well I think Karlsson is better than Housley. Housley was never the best offensive d-man in the league like EK is, and while DD has Bourque like talent he needs to be more consistent.

I think it's more like Leetch vs. Bourque, and while you still take Bourque every time, it doesn't mean Leetch wasn't great. I don't get the Karlsson hate on this board.

From my personal perspective, it's because Karlsson fans/touters refuse to acknowledge that he's poor defensively. Karlsson is a great player, he's very one dimensional, and there is nothing wrong with that. I just don't like people trying to pass Karlsson off as anything but a below average defense player. No player is perfect, Doughty has consistency issues and needs to use his wrist shot more from the point, but I freely acknowledge that. Pointing out anything wrong with Karlsson's game on the main board brings all all kinds of crazies.

What I learned this Olympics is that Sutter is stifling Doughty's creativity. Doughty was awesome, he ends up being Canada's best defenseman in every international tournament he goes to. I guess Sutter won a cup that way so he isn't about to change but Drew could be more exciting. I'm curious what King's fans think about this?

Muzzin and Lombardi are limiting Doughty creatively, and I say this as someone who thinks Sutter needs to open up his system a little. Muzzin is the only defenseman on the roster who can skate with Doughty, and he's not very good. This also falls on Lombardi for having the Kings roster in such a spot where Doughty has to be saddled with Muzzin

I was thinking the same thing watching Canada's games. I think some of it may have been the bigger ice, but most of it is the Kings system and roster.

The Kings players have defense, defense, defense entrenched into their thinking from the second they join the organization, which is fine, the Kings are always going to be a defensive oriented team under DL, but sometimes I think it goes to far. I think players are put on to short a leash when it comes to offensive freedom.

The Kings roster doesn't help either, right now the Kings have three guys playing at a top 6 forward level, Kopitar, Carter and whatever LW plays with them. It's hard for an offensive defenseman to be a game changer with a roster as devoid of talent as the Kings is.

Still can't believe what happened in the last two games. Somebody needs to tell Burke that "intense" isn't spelled S-H-U-T-O-U-T. LA Kings hockey on the international stage... Oof.

It's because most of us are tired of hearing how much better EK is over DD. He isn't. Drew Doughty played like the best defenseman in the world for the last two weeks. He is so good.

The thing about Drew is the moment is never too big for him. That's what separates him from the others. He's fearless yet doesn't try too hard. EK is A-Rod, Doughty is Jeter.

So 2 gold medals and a Stanley Cup so far for Drew and he's 24.

And he wasn't just a passenger.

My god...are these clowns sailing a boat? I must be high. These closing ceremonies...

No doubt in my opinion I think Karlsson's the best offensive defenseman in the league. He's fun to watch in the offensive zone and on the rush and just finds ways to get points. However, when he's in his own end......well I'll let everyone else make their own judgment on that. If we were to switch Karlsson and Doughty our offense would honestly be better but defensively I don't think we would be anything close defensively like we are with Doughty. He's that good!

Karlsson v. Doughty is more Coffey v. Chelios than any other analogy in this thread. Seriously, Doughty is like a Chelios clone.

2008 NHL draft

12 Tyler Myers (defence) Buffalo Sabres
13 Colten Teubert (defence) Los Angeles Kings
14 Zach Boychuk (centre) Carolina Hurricanes
15 Erik Karlsson (defence) Ottawa Senators

The curse of Colten Tuebert

Dear god imagine getting Doughty, Karlsson, and Voynov all in the same draft. Our defense would have been rebuilt over night.

Would of could of should of, The draft is a crap shoot, most of the time.

Just be happy that Dean and Futa are batting 1000. For two Roster players out of every draft.

We could have a scouting and development system like EDM. Dear god.

true. edmonton is the only team i've seen that is so awful yet a rebuild doesn't make sense. can't imagine what their fan base feels like

Guys,

Drew plays for the Kings, no one in the media cares about Drew Doughty.

He would have to play for a Canadian team or the East coast for anyone to give Two shi#$ts.

Or win 23425235025203402340203420434020340 Norris trophy's.

Which we all know will never happen, cause he plays for the Kings.

Just enjoy knowing we have the Best Defender of his Generation.
