The only way this team tanks is if it happens organically. We were decimated by injuries and we are still sitting near the playoffs. You would need Kaprizov/JEE/Boldy/Brodin to all have season ending injuries early in the year. It’s just not happening. It’s not realistic and it’s silly to think it was even possible.
Well, they were in the 6th draft spot for some time, so I'm not sure "silly" is completely fair, but overall I agree with your assessment. Since about the midway point, I've been rooting for them to lose games because they were a lot closer to a lottery win than the playoffs. At this point? They'll be drafting 13-15tth, I'm convinced.

Really? Who looks to the undersized winger that cant create on his own for leadership?

What is important to you then?
That’s not what you stated or asked and I quote, “nobody claimed he was a leader of any kind”.

Kaprizov, for starters. But I'm sure that Zuccarello is considered one of the leaders by the rest of the team as well. If for no other reason, than his 800+ NHL games played. Foligno can't create on his own either, but he is still considered part of the leadership group.

what does the pro-tank group expect? We can’t sit our Top 5 players when healthy and we can’t convince them not to compete. You can point to the buyouts or extensions but those are in the past and beyond our control.

We have Yurov, Marat, Ohgren & Wallstedt coming and maybe more. The buyout penalties are finally almost behind us. It would be asinine to tank now. Utter foolishness and also completely out of character for everything our owner & GM have demonstrated in their time here.

Shoulda just kept Dean and our current group. We were bottom 5; we were there. Didn’t need to sell anyone other than the folks we did. Hire a new coach in 1-2 years. Too bad; I’m sad about our position in the standings.

the buyout penalties are on the books through 2029. Although there could be more coming.

But I do have to agree that those hoping for the tank are only slightly more delusional than those expecting a Cup. Still, with a bit of luck this team will be back in the playoff hunt next season and it's hard to complain about that.

Did you forget where you were when you typed that?

They went 1-7-2 with major injuries to the team during the stretch that had them in the top 10 picks. Which is basically my point. Something would have to happen to our impact players for a long stretch… because even with the horrendous start and rough stretch of injuries/losses they are borderline playoff level.

You’ll get nowhere here with this line of common sense reasoning. No where

It's been said many times, but I guess it bears repeating once more.....it's virtually impossible to tank when you have players like Kaprizov, Boldy, Ek, and Faber. Neither they, nor their teammates or coaches, are just going to lay down and intentionally lose, and anyone who thinks that is even remotely possible is not grounded in reality.

You honestly believe that Guerin or Hynes would tell these guys: "Hey, let's try and lose the majority of these games"?? These players/coaches do have their pride and futures to play for.

Tank discussion is fine for forums like these, because it's the silver lining to a losing season. But intentionally tanking is something that was never going to happen.

Good to hear all of the more rational posters here posting. Sometimes the board seems to get drowned out from the other side.

Are you talking about Suter and Parise's buyouts? Because those end next year.
