It was a response to you. I'm saying that the idea of tanking is an easy one when you don't actually have to deal with the consequences if it doesn't work. We can always just stop watching, or watch less.
Yeah. Sorry, I meant the "no skin in the game" part. Thanks for clarifying that.

Folding at the slightest sign of adversity is also feeding the loser mentality. The season is very exciting right now, will they make the playoffs with all odds against them (injuries and cap hell and such).
We all know the chances they win a cup is very small, but as long as there is life there is hope.
What the hell do I know, I'm just an old geezer.
Following this team really requires a.) maintaining a certain emotional distance, and b.) making your own fun (as above). The team's marketing actively and aggressively urges against a., so I don't think it's shocking that every season a few of us crack and/or fantasize about tearing the team down to the studs as a form of b.

Now is the worst time to tank. We are on the verge of pushing into contender status:

27 and Under: Kaprizov, Eriksson Ek, Boldy, Rossi, Khusnutdinov, Faber, Chisholm and Gustavsson.

We have top prospects looking to break into the NHL within the next 1-3 years: Yurov, Ohgren, Wallstedt, Firstov, Heidt, Peart, Lambos, Spacek, Hunt, O’Rourke.

The potential is right there for a contender. We are in the low part of the buyout phase. After next year, we are golden.

In the next 1-3 years Kap is either gone or making 12+ million and looking at the wrong side of 30 years old. How long do you think this window your projecting stays open? 1 year??? Maybe 2? Do you think this team wins a cup with a 32 year old declining winger being the highest paid player on the team?

5 years easily and possibly longer. Contending starts after next season. Kaprizov will be 28.

I think Kaprizov is capable of carrying this team as he showed last year and the second half of this year. If we had any semblance of offensive depth and quality bottom 4 defenders, we would easily be a contender this year. We are stuck in a shit year where the prospects are not here yet or need an extra year of development (see Iowa defenders).

I hope you’re correct and I’m not , that’s for sure. I’m struggling to have any optimism at all with this team.

Kirill Kaprizov scored his 150th career goal as he extended his goal and point streaks to five and eight games, respectively, while Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves for his sixth shutout in a Wild uniform to help Minnesota (34-27-8, 76 points) leapfrog the Blues (36-30-3, 75 points) for third in the Western Conference Wild Card race.

These are always nice to see, but they never point out that the others guys on the list all started as 18/19 year olds.

TRADE HIM!!!!

I was curious about where Kap stands in team history in the scoring categories, and was surprised how often JEEs name is showing up on the lists. I guess I tend to forget about JEEs first ~170 games when he was a nonfactor in the o-zone?

JEE:
- will soon be in the top-10 in games played (needs 3 more games)
- 6th in goals
- 10th in goals created
- 6th in +/-
- 6th in ES goals
- 7th in PP goals (this one surprised me considering he's only been on the PP 3 years)

The goal wasn’t to have a massive sell off. The goal was just to lose with who we have. We don’t need to finish bottom even, just finish bottom 6-7, and give us a chance at guys. I’d much rather have Smith or Michkov or Leonard or Benson right now than what we got last year.

You won’t find any traction with that kind of common sense here.

Gus killed that notion when he opted to go .933 SV %. Our top 5 players are also too good to tank. Not that you’d know that from tonight’s showing

Well, let's look at the silver lining. The trade deadline is passed, which means Billy can't panic and make a stupid trade should Brodin be out for a while.

It doesn't matter how old you are, it's about the number of games until you've scored 150 goals. Or did you mean that the others had a harder time because they were younger?

How do you convince the team and/or coaches to just lose games? Beyond their competitive nature, they have their own futures to worry about.

I think he means that if Kaprizov had come to the NHL at the same age, he wouldn't be on that list. He's right about that, but you're also right, that's not how the list works.

i have to disagree and remind you that the future is also important! some of us are tired of seeing our favorite team whiffing in the first round over & over. why aren't you?

Everyone is tired of whiffing in the 1st round. But how do you tell your players and/coaches to intentionally lose games without trading away your best players?

The only way this team tanks is if it happens organically. We were decimated by injuries and we are still sitting near the playoffs. You would need Kaprizov/JEE/Boldy/Brodin to all have season ending injuries early in the year. It’s just not happening. It’s not realistic and it’s silly to think it was even possible.
