Personally, I have a feeling that Kyle was tendered an extension but was given a directive to fire Sheldon Keefe.
Whether you like Kyle or not, he is a very good GM, and he is incredibly well sought after. If he submits to the board's demands by signing his extension with the pretense that he will fire his Coach, then he knows from this day forward he wears the success or failure of this team solely. If he chooses to walk away, he will have a GM job in hockey the very second that an appealing option becomes available. Whereas, lets pretend he resigns, fires Sheldon, and they fail once again in the post season. His desirability league wide may not be as high in a years time should he get relieved of his duties. He may not have the choice on where he wants to land thereafter.
I know Kyle is a polarizing figure for 50% of our board, but he is a very good GM. Some may not like hearing this, but he really does hold all the cards. He can all but choose where and when he wants to work at this point. He has not only proven himself as capable GM, but also a guy who develops a culture where players want to sign and play. Argue all we want about if his philosophies work on developing a Stanley Cup winning team, but there is no doubt this guy can put together a very good roster worthy of that conversation.
Wil be an interesting week or so
