This is getting ridiculous. If I was the employer under such time sensitive circumstances, I would have set a hard deadline of 48-72 hours for a response.

Kyle, either shit or get off the pot.
Perhaps he's already told them?
Let aren't obligated to announce his decision as soon as he makes it.

I was anti-Dubas all the way until last offseason when he showed a slight change to his team-building MO by signing ZAR and NAK who were hitters and not skill guys for bottom 6. Then the deadline kinda sold me that he buys into a grittier group in bottom 6 with acquiring McCabe and ROR/Acciari; I was a fan of his deadline. And though I wanted them gone, I realized there was no moving Kerfoot or Holl despite my dislike of both because of the expiring contracts.

So I was actually ok if he comes back as long as he canned Keefe and showed a willingness to move one of the dangling trio, which the PC seemed to suggest.
But now? This has dragged too far and the more it does, the more disingenuous the whole thing looks and is costing the team time if he isn’t back

But Hunters? A guy behind the bench who looks at an iPad like it’s a piece of alien technology? No guy.

110%. And Shanny ghosting is a bloody disgrace. The guy has been literally invisible to media and fans since this time last year.

Tim knows what wrong with Toronto. The guy dipped so fast because he knows what’s holding them back and they won’t change from it.

semantics, he was told he wouldn't be traded, was it for the season, the length of the contract, who knows. You don't give verbals, you put pen to paper. He wasn't even entitled to that promise as per the NHLPA..........

So then why does it matter? It was a verbal statement that didn't restrict the team from doing anything. I'm sure GMs and coaches make verbal promises all the time that they don't end up keeping

Personally, I have a feeling that Kyle was tendered an extension but was given a directive to fire Sheldon Keefe.

Whether you like Kyle or not, he is a very good GM, and he is incredibly well sought after. If he submits to the board's demands by signing his extension with the pretense that he will fire his Coach, then he knows from this day forward he wears the success or failure of this team solely. If he chooses to walk away, he will have a GM job in hockey the very second that an appealing option becomes available. Whereas, lets pretend he resigns, fires Sheldon, and they fail once again in the post season. His desirability league wide may not be as high in a years time should he get relieved of his duties. He may not have the choice on where he wants to land thereafter.

I know Kyle is a polarizing figure for 50% of our board, but he is a very good GM. Some may not like hearing this, but he really does hold all the cards. He can all but choose where and when he wants to work at this point. He has not only proven himself as capable GM, but also a guy who develops a culture where players want to sign and play. Argue all we want about if his philosophies work on developing a Stanley Cup winning team, but there is no doubt this guy can put together a very good roster worthy of that conversation.

Wil be an interesting week or so
Not to 50 percent of the fan base he isnt. Pumping up his tires and telling me he is a proven capable gm isnt enough to change my mind. Ive been watching and paying attention. I was a fan of Dubas at first and slowly but surely my opinion of his philosophies that you are praising started turning me off of him and his idea of what a team looks like imo is not a winner. Im glad you think he is all that but there are more than a few of us who dont share your conviction. Can he change with the wisdom he has gained the last few years? Maybe, but unless I hear him explicitly say he got it wrong and will actually make philisophical changes (not more of whatever makes the team better speeches cause that means nothing to me) but actually do something different then I dont believe in him.

For about ten minutes………
If this team could win a cup I believe it buys probably 5-10 yrs grace.

I go back to the presser where Dubas talked about how difficult it's been for him and his family, has to take time to decide what he wants to do, etc. and from MLSE's pov is that really what you want to hear from a GM you want to re-sign for an extension?

First off, whomever is running the ship should be fully committed, positive, excited about what he can do this off-season to bring this team success, not "well, hmm, not sure if I really want to do this" kind of talk.

To me, that statement from Dubas screams from the rooftops they need someone new in his spot.

And if bringing in someone new means there's little to no time to make moves to the core before July 1st then so be it. Nylander only has a 10-team no-trade list kicking in which is manageable. If Matthews decides he doesn't like the new GM and won't extend then if a deal can't be made by the end of June I'm sure he'd waive his no trade to the right team and maybe even sign an extension.

Basically, there's always options even if the clock is ticking and right now if all this delay is to try and convince Dubas to return maybe MLSE should take a step back and ask if Kyle's head is in the right place first?

Hockey Hall of Famer Brendan Shanahan Selling $13M NYC Condo

By Jennifer Kelly Geddes

May 18, 2023

Professional hockey players get bashed against the boards, grinding it out week after week in the NHL.

But when the skates are hung up after practices and games, they look forward to relaxing in quiet comfort.

The Park Avenue pad owned by legendary forward Brendan Shanahan is precisely that type of elegant perch.

Huge by Manhattan standards, the five-bedroom, 4.5-bath condo offers 4,200 square feet of living space. But it’s the location that truly sells the residence. It sits smack dab in the middle of the Upper East Side near all the great museums, fancy boutiques, and Central Park.

Some of these trades actually aren't terrible.

I know there is plenty of Marner supporters and I'm a fan too but there's a time when certain things just make sense to move on from and along with the other guys... he'd get the biggest return.

Might be a pipe dream in there or two but some interesting proposals at least.
