Is Mitch Marner the 2nd best RW in the game, right behind Kucherov?

Just saying he's been phenomenal the last few weeks. He may well have taken a step to a new level the some posters here that don't watch the Leafs every game may not be aware of. If this is the new him, I don't feel silly claiming he's the *best* right winger in the league or at least second best. But based on the last 5 years? I'm good with him being considered top 5, the order's irrelevant after Kucherov.

He’s top 2 and I honestly don’t care what any biased fanboy has to say.

This guy blocks shots, is a top penalty killer in the league, backchecks, and literally plays D.

Not to mention he is on a 17 game point streak, and has a point in literally EVERY game this season except 1.

AND on top of that, he has the most points in the league over the last 100 games minus McDavid and Draisaitl. Finished last year with 76 points in 32 games, most in the league.

Top 2.
That is highly unlikely

Pastrnak lost a child to be fair. I would bet on this being the norm of him.

I generally noticed Marner more than Matthews but difficult to pick him over the top 2/3. Certainly top 5.
Yea Matthews has started the season slow, he’s picked it up recently, but marners been the heart of the team this season.

Losing a child must’ve taken a toll on him, so I understand the down years then.

As for this being the norm, yea I could see it. 19-20 he was around this level, tying Ovi for the rocket and pacing for 110ish points. If he returns to that form, and Marner continues pacing like his last two years then I think either can be argued for depending on if you need an elite playmaker or an elite goal scorer

The two above them both for sure make sense too; Kucherov has a decent lead over second place as he produces the best in both regular season and playoffs , and rantanen does what both these guys do, but he also does it the best in the playoffs.

Nope.

You have guys at Rw who are on a whole different level to Marner come playoffs and have done it for years.

Nobody picks Marner second from a group of Kucherov/Rantanen/Pasta/Marner for playoff run

Not sure what you're talking about as Mitch has had standout performances in the playoffs just as he's had quiet ones.

It's still a valid criticism, but he's also better defensively by quite a bit than the others. I would put him 2nd.

Rantanen possibly

Pasta, contract year.

Doesn't Panarin play LW?
That seems to imply that Pasta is playing out of his tree due to a contract year push. That's not close to the truth. 26 year old kid with the following for the past 7 seasons:

He's playing great this season, which is entirely normal for him.

Contract year...... please.

I’d take Kucherov and Rantanen ahead of him definitively.

Pasta and Panarin though? It’s a toss up.

My vote is Pasta (twice as many goals, more points in less games and was second on a NHL.com poll for the Hart which is by no means a perfect measure but I didn't see marner even named) but Kuch and Rantanen are all neck and neck. I'd have Marner behind them to start. And I like Marner a lot.

I’d have him fourth behind Kucherov, Pasta and Rantanen.
He could move up with some playoff success but that’s what’s missing on his resume right now. He needs to show up in the big games, like the Game 7’s.

Is it really a toss up? Really?

Even if you ignore the salaries of the past several years (a huge ask on the Marner front) - who would you want come playoff time? And would it be a tough decision?

Going back to 2017 (5 years)... you are missing someone very important on RW

Is he really though? He seems like he is easily intimitated by physical contact. I don't think Stone can be pushed around.

That's a myth. More like he has been a victim of pressure. Pretty well documented he deleted all social media after the Habs loss and his issue wasn't being hit it was being inside his own head. That's also why the Leafs went out and hired a world renowned sports physiologist after that series.

Marner was good last playoff series, so was Matthews. Just was a tight series and Vasi was better than Campbell in the moments that mattered. Is what it is.
