Is Mitch Marner the 2nd best RW in the game, right behind Kucherov?

He’s definitely top 5, but he won’t get ranked 1-3 unless he kills it in the playoffs sometime. Everyone is getting a little too comfy shitting on torontos first round exits. I’m guessing that roster will quiet everyone as soon as this year. Just a feeling. Like those caps teams, as soon as everyone threw in the towel on them ever getting over the hump, a couple guys go nuclear and get them there.

Highest scoring RW over the last 2, 3 and 4 years

This year he is currently the 5th highest scoring RW

He is the best RW in the game, he plays a complete game, elite play maker, elite defensively, elite on the PK, elite on the PP and he's even started scoring goals now. Sure his team hasn't had playoff success, that does not take away from him as an individual player. For me he has eclipsed Kucherov this year. At the time of this post Kucherov has 6 more points in 3 fewer games, I'd like to check back at about the 42 game mark. I am predicting their point totals will be very close.

Tipping point for me is his defensive game. Offensive production is very similar, biggest difference is Marners ability to PK and defend.

Before people go ape shit reading my post, I believe it is very close between Rantanen/Kucherov/Marner, I think an argument can be made for either guy.

Not sure what you're talking about as Mitch has had standout performances in the playoffs just as he's had quiet ones.

It's still a valid criticism, but he's also better defensively by quite a bit than the others. I would put him 2nd.

He really hasn’t had a single playoff run where he’s been lights out like Kucherov/Rantanen/Pasta.

Or a series where he takes over.
He’s awesome no doubt but the end goal for every team is to win the Cup

That’s the way I see it too. His Game 7 performances especially have been disappointing as has Matthews.
All of these wingers are great, but the playoff performances in the big games is what gives the other 3 an edge over Marner.

Head to head, Marner vs Pastrnak in the series they've played was absolute domination in favour of Pastrnak.

That said, since then, Marner has definitely gotten better. I think the top 5 is pretty set, you can rearrange whoever you like, really.

Kucherov is a scoring machine but defensively he has been pretty bad this year.
From a pure GAR perspective this year...Panarin out, Kucherov out.

To Date:
Rakell #1
Stone #2
Marner #3
Pastrnak #4

I think you need to try to follow the game a little more closely. You seem to be struggling with the basics.
Perhaps you haven’t seen Keller play lately if you take this comparison as an insult.

Additionally, I don’t think anyone would argue that Leafs offensive lineup is miles better than Coyotes

I like how there is never any middle ground with the Leafs. Either a guy is a horrible, overpaid bum who needs to be shipped out of town (when playing poorly) or he is the greatest thing since sliced bread (when playing well).

Leafs fan and I would probably take Rantanen or Pasta over Marner, but it's very close. The only reasoning is that Marner's game has such a complex rhythm to it that he's prone to slumps. It's why he always starts the season slow and seems to have trouble when the game changes come playoffs (last year was better). When he's firing on all cylinders he's the best of the 3, maybe even better than Kuch, but he is a high maintenaince player who needs to feel comfortable to shine. I think he would eventually become dominant in an extended playoff run if they can get one rolling.

I have the same feeling for MacKinnon and Makar if they are not on their game. If they all are on their game, there isn't then much stopping them.

Keller is playing better. The comparison is still an insult. Marner is better at essentially everything.

Yeah Rantanen is certainly ahead. Actually I think Rantanen is pretty clearly #2, especially once you factor in playoff performance. His numbers are even better then Kucherov's in the playoffs, but Kuch has pretty insane numbers for the 130+ games played.

That seems to imply that Pasta is playing out of his tree due to a contract year push. That's not close to the truth. 26 year old kid with the following for the past 7 seasons:

He's playing great this season, which is entirely normal for him.

Contract year...... please.

Year to year though, Marner still puts up more points than Pasta. Pasta also benefits by playing with better linemates where Marner has a pylon on his other wing. Playing with Bergeron AND Marchand is far more beneficial than playing with Matthews and a pylon.

Talented in the regular season...

I think Marner's playoff game will eventually come around, he's at least trying in the playoffs. Crosby was down this road before, same with Ovy and eventually they both overcame their demons and turned the page.

No. Klutcherov is one of 3 people to record 90 points in 3 straight postseasons...the other 2? The Great One and Super Mario.

Kuch>Rants AINEC

I don't think Marner is #2 .. but it's close. And production, especially in the playoffs, is a valid point. You can't ignore the fact that Marner is one of the team's top PKers up front (averaging nearly 2 mins per game over the last 4-5 years) and the positive impact it's had.

Kuch # 1
For me, Pasta less clear #2

But any given day, any of the top 5-6 RWs can be dominant. I honestly don’t know how to split them. Do you account for salary? Age? Injury proneness? Earned playoff cred?

Mitch’s wildcard is his short handed play. Over 2 mins per game, and when he’s on the ice he’s one of the most dangerous short handed players in the league. If not the most dangerous, I love it when he’s on the ice for PKs.

If, in a vacuum, if I had to draft RWs I think he’d go third or fourth or fifth for me behind the clear 1/2 of Kuch/Pasta.

Not sure how anyone would take Marner over Rants. Whatever minuscule advantage Leafs fans might feel Marner has in the RS, it's absolutely dwarfed by the massive chasm in PO performance Rants has over Marner.
“If Marner played on a team as stacked as the Avs…”

:sarcasm:
