Not really fair to compare Hertl's Draft+1 to Reway's Draft+2, is it?

I believe he will carve out a career as a middle sixer.

he wont make it into the NHL if he cant play in a top 6 role. its either that or he'll be back playing in Europe.

He makes it IMO and will become a valuable TOP6 player. He's skilled enough to make up for his lack of size.

Does being in Europe in the Czech league hurt his development? Does he receive the quality of training an NHL organization could provide.

I don't really watch him enough, but I've seen him a few times in junior and in the WJC... my general feeling is that he has the skills required, and so you can't count out guys who have that skillset when they are still young, but... I'm not sure if he has the mindset? He seems to play more of an individual one-way game at a glance... and once he loses that additional fraction of time and space, not sure he can find a way to fight through?

It is just a quick impression from very limited viewing, though. As a Habs fan, I'd be thrilled if people who watched him more could come here and say that, yes, he has a good chance to make the NHL!

I would say he is "too much" of a team player. He passes the puck in situations, when shooting is blatently a better option. Last game he created 4 open goal chances, but his teamates only converted once. I do think he should improve his defence. -5 is not that great for a player with that many points, even though most of his points come from the PP.

Reway has been amazing in the last two World Juniors. He currently has 26 points in 28 games in the Czech Extraleague. (In comparison, Hertl had 30 points in 48 games). He has amazing on ice vision and hockey IQ. His shot is OK, nothing special though. In the World Juniors, he showed us he can play defense, but in Sparta he has a -5. His biggest problem, is his size. He only has 178cm (5,10), and this is what concerns me the most...

hard to say at this point, he's a lot of fun to watch though and he's having a good year in the Czech league along with a nice showing at the WJC's.

It really comes down to his attitude and size. I'd heard he was having some troubles in Gatineau either last year, or the year before, but has apparently turned it around. He doesn't seem to struggle too much against larger players, but we'll have to wait and see with him. He's a top 6 or bust prospect imo, or would need to be paired with larger players on a scoring 3rd line. If he makes it though, he could be a great scorer. Hopes aren't very high though, given Montreal's prospect depth at the forward position, and the two aforementioned reasons.

Honestly, I feel like it's best for his development. He seems more focused there, and playing with men is best for him. From what I know, he was just too good for juniors and needs some sort of middling league before he can hit a big pro league like the KHL or NHL.

From my experience, it´s a pity. Maybe he locked the door to NHL forever. It´s not like many players leave Canada to come back after developing in Euro league. We will see him soon in KHL.

Recent Habs signing Jiri Sekac did so. :)

lol how can you compare that? while Hertl played most of the time with players like Krenzelok, Sklenar, Micka, Alinc..overall had much worse teammates..Reway is playing with Hlinka and Rolinek and still is -5...

At this moment in time I think he's pretty happy where he is, and Sparta seems to be a good fit for him. Another couple of seasons like this, of course a KHL team is going to come calling.

Will be a brilliant European-based player, but don't see him becoming an NHL regular, and if he tries to adjust his game to the North American style I think it will ruin him.

His biggest challenges will be having a better attitude/work ethic and also accepting a decrease in salary to play in the AHL so he can get ready for the NHL. If he can't overcome these challenges, he will stay in Europe and never come over.

It doesn't necessarily mean he'll get to the AHL. Seems like his plan is to stay in Europe until he's NHL ready.

From what I saw, the guy have tendencies to disapeer at five on five, not big, not really fast, not a hard worker ... but, oh man he is a power play wizard. He makes me think about Marc Savard the way he drive the PP. Everybody know the puck will always go to him, everybody is ready to defend against him, but still, he's so good he still can create something everytime he's on the ice.

I don't know if he'll ever make it, but he's a pure joy to see on the PP.

But he's already played in NA and done very well. Or do you mean in the pro leagues in NA?
