It's likely for when there's widespread access of the vaccines (not just Pfizer, but other ones in development).

And for schools, it's not any different than their current requirement in Ontario to have up to date vaccinations in order to access public education

That’s down the road when they get those other vaccines. And I have no problem adding this if and when it’s save. Although, flu vaccine isn’t mandatory.

We are in the process of educating our medical teams and had a Dr from DC give us a terrific presentation about this vaccine rollout yesterday. As of now there are a lot of questions about certain diseases, but, he did say pregnant and lactating women and those under 16 shouldn’t take now. There were lots of questions about other diseases and conditions as well. I think he said the Pfizer study will be in the NEJM this week so we will know more then.
I think the protocol will end up that the decision to take the vaccine or not will be between the individual and their physicians. The majority of the population will be able take it without consultation, but not all. There will be a recommend hierarchy of who gets inoculate after the healthcare workers, LTC, police, firefighters, etc.

I assume they'll do something similar in Canada.

If the province is going to give out a card and encourage private business to restrict access without the card, they should also issue a exemption card for people that can’t take the vaccine and other circumstances, like if you’ve tested cv19+ in the past 90 days.

Agreed, with all of that. That is a reasonable approach, and I would assume that's the path they would pursue, if they are going to make it a required vaccine.

Just as an FYI...I found out accidently that Lifelabs is now doing covid antibody tests for $75...for those people who suspect they might of had it at any point in the last year. My wife was sick for 3 weeks in Jan along with my kids (much Milder cases)...but I didn't get it then. I got it in November and nobody else got it here...so chances are they had it. So we can infer immunity lasts at least 11 months if they did have it...which is cool to know.

My question is: Why would someone who already had it have to take the vaccine?

This is great news. I've been wondering when I can get an antigen test. Also I think I had it as well back in January (nagging cough for 3 or 4 weeks that just wouldn't go away}. I subsequently found out an employee of mine had traveled to China for 3 weeks in December. So if an antigen test comes up positive for me it would also be evidence we have fairly long lasting immunity.

Thanks for the info.

Proof of vaccination cards. Another "conspiracy theory" coming true. All of you pushovers deserve blame for allowing this to happen. Keep putting your masks on and your heads down. Trust the experts.

There is a middle ground that I think applies to many people, myself included.

I have been abiding by the recommended health guidelines since the pandemic started, but I am also opposed to mass lockdowns and the concept of a Covid Immunity Passport.

The measures implemented have to be justified based on science and logic.

That question was asked and they said the Pfizer vaccine would cover you for 8-10 years. You may not be at the front of the line but it advised to take it eventually.

There may be a booster required sometime down the road in that 8-10 time frame.

The province of Victoria implemented a curfew. Is that what you're asking for?

do you mean Victoria Australia? Firstly a bit of semantics we have states not provinces.

the city of Melbourne was locked down not the state of Victoria. Source: my parents who where lucky to live outside the greater Melbourne area in the state of Victoria.

Also after that lockdown with curfew people are out and about doing Xmas shopping and small businesses which you seem to be all about. Music festivals and sporting events going on with full capacity crowd. Life as normal, again source: my parents and my sisters (who were in Melbourne for lockdown)

Does Australia share border with a country like the USA where 100K transport trucks go between monthly.. like Ontario does?

How do these pro Australia plan to solve the biggest issue for Ontario

just don’t allow transport trucks in?
Hahahaha

One of my offspring works front line and has noticed how so many people are unhealthy.
I'm sure we have an epidemic of asthma right now, and COPD and other respiratory diseases that make it impossible for them to wear masks ;-)
Oh, well now if you can't wear a mask you have to wear a shield.

One example, a wife (she mentioned her husband - established relationship) is buying something and says, I have asthma I can't wear a mask, her husband comes in without a mask and the store will give you a mask so it is offered, and he says oh I have one in the car, hesitates then adds but I have asthma. That was before the change of rules, a mask, and if you can't wear a mask a shield.

Seriously, if the store has rules and you don't want to follow the rules go somewhere else, you really aren't special.

merely correcting a bit of mis information man, a whole state wasn’t locked down a city was and because of that is now back to normal. That’s all I was saying. Not sure if that poster was replying to someone who I have on ignore maybe? I said nothing about we should be doing it or not here

my apologies... Australia just triggers me because it’s impossible for Ontario to do

Yeah. It’s impossible for most Countries to do what Australia and New Zealand did. Unless folks in Canada don’t wanna eat, have essential supplies and become financially broke.

I guess you could lock the land borders down completely and let air transport in only I suppose that’s a way to do it like Australia. The population of Melbourne isn’t massively smaller than Toronto 5m compared to 6m. It could work I guess. Also locking down with curfews a major outbreak area wouldn’t need to stop transport to Ontario. Again not advocating they do it but there are ways it could be possible.

I’ve watched John Tory say it’s impossible to lockdown because we don’t have the police to do checkpoints

he said he’s powerless to stop the restriction of movement

Got to deal with that to

for sure way harder to do in Canada/Toronto

Those with inside knowledge have confirmed to people we know that the lockdown of York Region will be announced this afternoon.

EDIT: To be effective as of Monday.

Wouldn't the flip side of that be that if a certain segment could be relied upon to do the bare minimum, maybe you wouldn't end up down said road?

Remember in elementary school where no one was allowed recess if the class wouldn't quiet down and there's always that one or two?

Sigh. I live in York Region, and as absurd as it is, I knew it was only a matter of time.

Yup. And my wife works retail at the mall, and by all accounts will be losing her job as a result. Merry Christmas to us.

Hopefully it is just temporary for the duration of the lockdown and she gets called back when we get out of it, whenever that is.

I will let you know if it works. All 5 of us went in yesterday to Dynacare for SARS-COV-2 TOTAL AB test (blood test). It was 70 each inclusive of tax. I was only 1 of 5 in our house who had symptoms and nose test confirmed POSITIVE. I am very curious if all 5 of us have antibodies or not? My wife and daughter tested NEGATIVE on da nose test. 5-7 days for results to post. This is more of a curiosity factor for me. I did not want to wait long because I hear these antibodies go away or at least below testing thresholds.

Doesn't change the question I asked though. I live in the GTA which has about 8 million people (depending on your boundaries) or 20% of Canada's population. If they put a curfew on Toronto, it would likely be applied to most or all of us.

The question again to the other poster: do they want curfews like Australia implemented?

We are not China here ... we can't lock up Toronto like they did Wuhan with fencing and military at all exit/entry points and then force people to get approvals from city officials to take their cars from underground lots and only leave residences for 1 hour per day and enforce it through people's cell phones ... and temp checks every time you exit and enter a building... common man lets get real ... that would create a revolution here ... i can't see it happening even with a massive Ebola outbreak where half people die once infected
