Is there a trade that is fair for the Oilers if trading Connor? It would take at least the top forward and D, right? Then there’s cap to consider, so a contract dumping dollars has to go with Connor. Would the Oilers trade Connor + cap dump(s) for Matthews and Reilly?

maybe Nylander Reilly plus

Wait and see where McDavid signs when he is a UFA in 4 years. I think everyone has a good idea. I will leave it at that. He won’t be traded before that.

And what generational talent sits around for a decade waiting for their team to show even a glimpse of PO success? I cannot think of many examples in modern sports history.

Within 1-2 years, if the Oilers remain on their current trajectory, I expect he and/or Drai will let the Oilers know they will not be re-signing there and the sweepstakes for one or both will begin.

Jesus that’s an awful trade

26 year old Hart, Lindsay, Art Ross winner signed long term at a huge discount, who is currently leading the NHL in goals and points for a rookie dman

not as awful as it sounds... look at Larsson for Hall. Seider already playing as a #1 and he's got better every year since being drafted

Only way of getting a legit 1D is giving up a superstar forward or drafting/developing your own

I don’t see McDavid re-signing in Edmonton under any circumstance. He is gone.

This is a silly thread. The only players that could replace McDavid and Draisaitl are Matthews and Marner and the Leafs would never trade them.
The thread isn’t about the Leafs.
There are teams who need to make a business move to sell tickets regardless what happens on the ice. Which is exactly the same reason why the oilers don’t trade him…good for the team, bad for business.

If things don’t change, I agree. In which case, he will be dealt at some point. Its just a matter of when he tells them and how big of a stink he makes in the process.
Tough to say. It would take a major blockbuster.

I voted McDavid. I think he is perceived to have more value around the league. He's the best offensive player in the game, but as I've said for years, he's a cherry picker. I've seen progress in Draisaitl defensively. Then you factor in contract.

If I'm the Oilers I want a 2nd line center, a top pairing blue liner both on cap friendly deals. Then I want a young NHL ready top 6 prospect and a 1st round pick.

As a Rangers fan, I would start with Fox for McDavid. I would then ask Oilers what else would they want within reason.

Future for the Rangers on the RD side is:

Trouba
Lundkvist
Schneider

The Oilers need a 2 way defender. The already have plenty of offense from the blue line.

Keep them. Get a good GM. Squire depth and defense and a goalie. Trade futures to get it done. You can’t keep trying to put score your problems

Seider isn’t a legit 1D yet. Why would the Oilers deal the 2nd best player on the planet in a 1-for-1 deal for him?

It’s an awful trade and there’s nothing you could say that’d justify it

I have to say neither.

I'm not convinced this club can't compete. Yes we have issues.

- Top 4 LD (Losing Klefbom hurt), his loss will cost good assets to fix. We have a current pipeline with Broberg, Holloway, Samurokov, Bourgault our 2022 1st. We have assets to get a good trade done for a D that can truly make a difference. Looks at Arizona.

- 3c, this shouldn't be as difficult as Chiarelli/Holland have made it. The top end 3c fetch a late 1st at best, how this hasn't been addressed is unbelievable. One of our major issues is 3rd and 4th line players. We can't get 6 bottom 6 guys worth a damn, even with McDavid and Draisaitl doing all the heavy lifting. It's unfathomable when Puljujarvu comes in playing like a top 6, RNH re-signs, Hyman comes in as a UFA and Bear is moved for a forward and still our 5v5 sucks. UGH!

- Goaltending!! This typically is the easiest position to address in trade (value wise) yet here we sit with a Smith/Koskinen tandem, AGAIN. Least Koskinen is done this season, and Smith with 1 year remaining I'd honestly attempt to waive to the minors this off season. He was better than expected last year but never should have gotten a 2 year deal at 39.

I want a new coach first, Tippett sucks. 0-8 with a healthy McDavid-Draisaitl should never happen, ever. Pure garbage. This firing/replacement in theory should "buy" Holland time. Never liked the Holland signing and still don't. The wasted cap on Keith alone should have been the last straw. We have to be realistic and see the coach "should" be the axed before the GM.

A competent coach would be enough to turn the tide, as Vancouver is showing. How we sat back with Tippett while Gallant and Boudreau were unemployed is crazy. Holland is out of touch. I don't even think he's smart enough to fire Tippett to buy himself time. If he does we likely get Babcock.

I'm sick of this team. It's been a rough 2020, 2021 (In the real world) and I don't know if hockey wise I can take what 2022 is gonna give me as an Oilers fan. Saying this as a fan since 1984-85. (Hangs head) The fact a post like this even has some merit worthy of it being made is painful.

If the solution is trading either of these two players then people are not watching hockey right! The solution is not spending money foolishly and using the savings to fill holes in the key area's. I had hoped Holland would be better and he screwed up before he even started by trading for Keith. I am even a bit of a Keith fan, but that contract at this point in his career was a bad pick up. I like Ceciand Hyman, but the Barrie signing was another bad spend. The extra year on Ryan, Shore and Turris's deals were mistakes as well. The Oilers are still bleeding out from buy outs and retention from the Chiarelli screw ups and now Holland is boned when we really need holes filled.

I have been cheering for the oilers since being a kid on my grand parents farm in Wildwood listening to Ched and the oilers in the WHA days. The sky is not falling yet, but it is plain to see that its not working and a deck shuffling is coming. The question is does Holland shuffle the roster, coach or deck chairs?

I’m guessing Stutzle our 1st and Chabot and Sanderson. No way in hell do i even consider this Buuuut I’m guessing its that caliber of a trade. So I’m out. Although Tkachuk-Mcdavid-Batherson has the makings of a great line

The oilers will never win anything as is or even in the near future.

Drai has to go to bring in pieces that help McDavid

AGain, the oilers are not winning anything of import in the next 3 years.

Suck it up and help out your superstar. Otherwise...he is gone. And you get nothing.

Bunch of regular season individual awards. Who cares?

I'll offer Michael Ferland, Matt Stajan, and a 3rd round pick. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

Pelletier, Zary, Tkachuk, Lindholm, and 2 firsts would be my offer.

Gaudreau-Mcdavid-find a top 6 RWer
Monahan-Dube-Mangiapane
Lucic-Backlund-Coleman
4th line idgaf.

I mean I guess the Capitals should've traded Ovechkin then too after his 6th season. You're too into the dumb soap opera of this board.

This is a entertainment business first and foremost. No other player makes the Oilers the type of money McDavid does, no one else gives them a valuation of 1 billion+.

The owner himself would never agree to any trade, so it begins and ends right there. Those expensive tickets in that shiny new arena are not going to sell themselves, nor is that merchandise.
