It really pales in comparison to Brady's deal which was what signified to everyone that the Senators were committed to spending money on this young core.

Assen na yo!
No kidding... This doesn't even break the top 2 signings this season.

Lonely end of the rink
Zub is realistically a 3/4 Dman, if that's our most important signing in history then this franchise has some real issues

Zub is a great option to have around, and clearly there'd be a big hole if we let him walk, but he's not a franchise player, this is more akin to re-signing Methot in 2015.

Except Zub is totally fine with Winnepeg. I mean for the most part. Like as much as you can be.

He's 27 years old, he's not someone you should expect big leaps forward from. He's certainly not going to be better than Chabot or Sanderson, and we've been rumoured to be wanting to add guys that could push him down the depth chart.

We're aweful without him because we have no depth on the right side, that's less about Zub and more about the alternative options

He got 4.6 for a reason, he and the team are realistic about who and what he is.

In all honesty, this is all reminiscent of people saying DeMelo would get 5 mil, Zub is better than DeMelo but the same over rating is going on here imo. There are a number of teams on which he'd be a 4th Dman on. That's not slight, the gap between 3 and 4 can be negligible, unfortunately on our team it's the grand freaking canyon
He's not overrated in the slightest. He is incredibly unique actual good shut down D men especially on the right side are few and far between. I find you have underrated him as a player his entire tenure. Its very hard to find a player like him there was only one in free agency last year and that was Manson. You literally couldnt think of one earlier this year when I asked you. 22 minutes a game thats what he plays, his dollars per minute are the best on the team. The team took advantage of a situation and he signed for shorter term than I think anyone hoped. Its still a good deal for the team though.

It really says alot about how great the dressing room is, and how players feel about the team's future under Dorion. Everyone seems to be signing at discounts right now!
Dorions a gonner sorry man.

You know, I'm starting to wonder if Dorion really is as incompetent as some of you keep saying. What a great deal for the team and an important piece of the puzzle locked up during, what should be, our competitive cycle.

Another elite signing by Pierre Dorion, the most misunderstood GM of the modern era.

I don't care?

It still doesn't change the fact that he built this team and the lockerroom that players are willing to give discounts to play for. Whoever comes after (whenever that may be), will reap the benefits of Dorion's work.

What incredible skill Dorion has displayed with getting worked over in 80% of the trades he made and tearing down a team with all its core players in their prime after an ECF run. 5 straight losing seasons spent in the bottom 5 of the league with a bare prospect pool and 3rd last in the conference. What a tremendous job....

Good riddance.

Honestly going after him when he is injured is the best way to do it from a value perspective. Breaking your jaw is awful. Probably wanted some security after realizing how fragile a career can be.

He easily gets 5+ in free agency. Acting like you are a genius here and not recognizing that the term is shorter and they got him to sign when he is vulnerable is why its such a team friendly contract.

Incredible value for the team.

I think that is exactly what happened.

I think Zub rightly expected that he could have gotten something like $5.5m x 5 in UFA, but already two bad injuries in his contract year had to have put some caution in him. An elite shutdown D is worth a lot, but a shutdown D who can't stay healthy is not something you want to be in a contract year.

No question. If I am RHD, I know I am guaranteed one of Chabot or Sanderson on a team that has its core set up for the foreseeable future.

Easy destination target we become, and perhaps someone even takes a paycut to be here. Critical move achieved by Dorion here.

"Achieved" doing a lot of work here. He did what he had no choice to do, and it probably should have been done before the season started which might have attracted that #4 D we obviously needed before we had yet another lost season(or close to being lost as of now).

It's a nice signing regardless, but let's not act like this is a great achievement by PD.

So which one is it? I'm the genius for calling out everyone for overinflating Zub's value, or is Dorion the genius for signing Zub at such an unbelievable deal?

Neither, you go against the grain every time. At some point one of your predictions is going to be right. I mean you argued for days that Tierney was better than Pageau because they traded Pageau.

I think its a great signing by Dorion and the entire management group of the Ottawa Senators. I suggested that it would be a good time to try and get him to extend when he was injured.

None of the above. Pretty sure he's been valued correctly around here save a few people and you were just part of that main group. Dorion simply signed a player he had no choice signing.

He absolutely would have this summer. He is worth more than that. Look at the main boards not one negative comment. Many fans of other teams dissapointed he signed. Show me all the top 4 D men who are signing right now for under 5 million that can play 22 minutes a game effectively.

I'll wait.

Because its unforgettable. Such an asinine argument is something that will be ingrained in my brain for life.

Zub probably falls in here. There were some outliers like Gudbranson but 4 years deals in the 4s seems to be consistent with a more defensive guy. Adam Larsson is a good comparison

Here, I found my comments regarding Tierney for you, because you tried to pass this lie off last time too:
